Am i outta line?

heres the deal. im a senior in high school. ive been accepted to all the colleges i applied to, even got some nice scholoarships to a couple of them. im taking AP calculus right now and it is very challenging for me, i have a D+. my final is on tuesday and my dad is basically flipping out b/c i say that even though i plan on studying for a couple hours tomorrow, im still going skiing b/c the season ends in a couple weeks and im trying to get the most skiing in that i can by then. i honestly dont care what i get on the final, im retaking calc next year in college regardless of what i get on the AP exam in may. my dad says i should care and try my best even though im in no danger of losing my accpetances/scholorships and have A's in all my other classes. I mean im a senior in highschool i think i should just be enjoying myself but i really hate dissapointing my dad so much, even though im still not sure why my D dissapoints him so much. sorry for the rant, just felt like typing all this out b/c i spent the last half hour arguing with my dad over this crap.

First of all congratulations, sounds like you have worked hard to get where you are today. No I don't think you are out of line at all, that is human nature and as a 17/18 year old I think that is to be expected. That being said, one of the most important lessons that I've learned in life, is that sometimes you just gotta take one for the team and do what your parents want, in this case sacrifice skiing to study for this test. I mean one day of skiing, is it really as important as what your dad wants? That being said, I would probably go skiing too if I were in your position.

my dad tells me i do the least possible to still get by. i dont get why thats bad. why would i want to work harder than i need to

i dont see the big deal. you shouldnt really need to study for more than a few hours for the test, and if you did it in 2 days and just studied 2 or 3 hours (still, a shitload of studying, way more than i would do) you should be fine. you should be able to ski and take the test without a problem.

this guy i know took AP enviornmental science his senior year and on he didnt care at all so on the ap exam he filled in C for every multiple choice, For the short answer he would start writing an answer and then cut it off saying--- "uh, you know what? It just doesn't matter"

and for the essay they had to write about an endangered species

he chose "the Velociraptor"

Well, if you studied for a few hours and then didn't go skiing what are the chances that you'd keep studying? If you're retaking the class next year then i can't see any reason why you shouldn't ski. Only 2 more weeks left.

Dude my dad is the same way. I got into Middlebury and now hes like, "you need to keep it up or theyll take away your acceptance" This is obviously a lie, and it's bullshit.
I try to just not share what happens in school with my parents any more and I manage to get up every weekend. Or just say you'll bring your math up with you, haha. good luck tho

second semester senior year...don't you just need to pass? ap calc sounds way hard...ask your dad if HE knows how to do it.

well you know the more you study the more stress youre going through. less stress means better grades. thats what i always say.

As long as all the rest of your grades are keeping up I wouldn't worry about it too much. As long as you can't fail the class that is, i mean if you have a D+ depending on how much the final is worth it could fuck you over. Now its basically a million to one odds that anything bad will happen to you. But to the other ns-ers looking at this thread don't fuck up in every class your senior year, there are schools out there, and not just ivy leagues, that will rescind your acceptance if your grades drop significantly enough in enough classes. But generally no, you're not out of line.

Drop/audit that shit for sure if you're already accepted in th college you want to go to. If you audit you can still go and learn but not worry about grades/tests/bullshit.

I did that, but I warn you, you won't study at all. Wil probably learn something nontheless.

if you can audit that course still, do it. and if your sure your in no danger of losing your acceptance, explain to your dad that you are going to retake it in college, and right now it is just essentially prepping you for it. go ski. But still study some too, education is a good investment.

I heard a really funny story about that. A professor always gives a final at the end of the semester, and has never had anyone fail it. One kid got 0/100, which is highly unlikely. He answered all Cs. The test was true/false.

damnnn im looking at colleges now and middlebury looks sick, but i dont know if i have the grades to get in... what did your transcript look like?

same exact thing..i got into the college i want and my latin grade could be better, but it doesnt really matternow cuz i have a month left of school

isnt middlebury the college with their own ski hill? i remember looking at the site but i do not have the grades to bother applying if i wanted to.

almost as good a deal as the Green Mountain College resort/hospitality major... just to fill you in, the kids that are in that specific major live in a lodge that has been renovated with dorm rooms, the lodge is located on the access road to killington. It is a three year major, so they have to go a little earlier and they end a little later in the year, this makes the year be split into trimesters. during the winter trimester, they get jobs at the killington resort, which also gives them a free season pass becuase they are staff. my brother is in this program and last year he was a ski instructor and got 101 days of skiing and that not counting the ones where he only taught for a couple hours and then went back to the lodge. this year he grooms. next year he gets to choose where he wants to go for an internship at any kind of resort he wants to... fucking great.

the likelyhood that a college will take away your acceptance is very little. i mean once they get your mid year grades they wont really look so much at your final grades (as long as they have made their decision on you). if you arent droping every class and failing a bunch of your core classes all of a sudden, which your not, i dont think you have much to worry about.

also you can look up TWA, he also goes there and has videos of what the guys have built in the front yard... they even hold a halloween rail jam sponsored by shops on the access road

congrats on getting into middlebury though, and i don't see why a parent wouldn't understand that there really isn't a point to getting a perfect score on the test when you know that you have to take it again next year in college.

i know some black girl who goes to GMC in NH right? but shes black, she'll most likely get pregnant and have to drop out sooner or later, and succumb to the AIDS.

ok didnt read the posts but heres what i have to say. Im in AP Calculus AB right now, and the tests are impossible. ours are out of 30 points, and the kids who spend all day studying might get a 25, which is amazing. i got a 24 once but that must have been a fluke, because i thought i had failed every test. i dont care how much studying i do, the tests will still seem impossible. i say go skiing, because it will take more time than you have to teach yourself the things that you dont know.

wisconsin, penn state, ohio state, colorado, and michigan state. penn state and ohio state are most likely although im not giving up on CU yet, but money there would be a problem

if you are into your top or at least 2nd choice then i would tell him to chill i mean you gotta fuckkkkkkkkkk up bad like get kicked outta scholl to get unaccepted but congrats on gettin into those schools

It's one day of skiing. A lot can happen in that one day. In comparison, how can this test have any long term impact on anything? It seems that you should do the one thing that actually might be worth doing.

brian you worthless cunt.

Just playin, but yeah you have to mess up pretty bad to get your acceptance revoked. Elliott is in the same position, talk to him about it.

dude, this is weird. uoi're in the exact same boat as i am. i'm getting 59% in calculus and all i want to do is ski. i've already been accepted to unniversity and i'm taking it again next year. just pass the course man.

umm no emo poppins, gmc in vermont, they live on the access road of killington, you should know that is in vermont...

Biggest lesson I've learned once you're done with HS, is don't do anything solely to make your parents happy. Took me about 3 years and two degree changes to figure that out, but I think I'm finally beginning to do my own thing.

At the same time, you gotta respect the 'rents, they've dealt with more of your shit than anybody else; you just need to make it clear that their say isn't the only say anymore.

It all depends on how ready you feel for the test. You don't seem to be doing to well in the class so you might want to just buckle down and learn the shit. AP calc is a bitch of a class, I took BC and got a 4 but that required hours and hours of studying for the exam. This doesn't mean you have to skip skiing though, do what you will eventually learn to do in college: all nighter study session. I recommend lots of caffeine and ADD medicine. Good luck

idk im just saying be careful i never did any homework, skipped a bunch of classes just goofed off through ap cal thinking i too would retake it in college... well i get a 4 on the ap. which means i have creedit for the equivilent math in college. which means i cant retake it. and i have no knowledge of calc so i cant move on either. im completely stuck. so for now my math studies have stopped. it sucks. so be careful. dont do well on the ap.

go skiing. If you had a good day shredding and your happy and then study you will get just as much done as if you spent the day trying to study and couldn't cause you wanted to go skiing.

This is basically a really bad place to ask about such a profession because most people on here don't want to work for what they want. They just have an opinion. Good luck bro, sorry I don't have any info on it.

Seriously high school is not all that its cracked up to be. when you get to college the classes you took in HS wont have really mattered anyway. Go skiing, enjoy your self. youll have enough stress and crap when you get to college. !

Actually, I go to one of the best schools in my state, and the number 20 or something public school in the nation (it sucks), and kids that take AP classes in my school fucking BREEZE through college, they say it's awesome when you get to college, everything is super easy.
