ALWAYS WEAR HEAD PROTECTION/ Bern Baker Hard Hat testimony

I have heard some people be skeptic of the hard hat baker, but I can testify that it is just as safe as a helmet. Yesterday skiing Loveland Pass I hit a tree head first and the thing safed my life and I barely felt a thing. This is just a public service announcment telling everyone to wear a helmet b/c I should either be dead or in a coma if it wasn't for my bern Baker. Also eople who are worried about the helmet being a Hard Hat it still preforms well.

Thats sick dude, definitely lucky for you, and good to know...I almost bought one, but then I didn't, not sure why though

Im going for the weekend w/ my family skiing and wasnt planning on riding park, prob just messing around on some trail and running through some trees every so often. At first I was thinking..."eh Im not hitting any jumps or trying to do anything crazy this weekend Im gonna just leave my helmet home, one less this to think about."

But man after reading that I am def taking my helmet and wearing it....I may only be riding w/ family this weekend but who knows I may try something stupid and anything could happen.

Great info....and awesome post.

Good to know, there has been alot of talk about those.

But i would not use it anymore if you whaled a tree with it, helmets are ususally only good for one good smack, you might need a new one.

I never believed that theory, then i smacked my head on a tree with a Giro, saved my life. I continued to use it, and a few months later i smacked my head on a park landing super hard, and it was like i was wearing nothing at all, worst concussion of my life.

i was ridin tremblant last year, there was a run with a little drop off to the side, everyone would hit it and then carve back into the actualy run, after like 30 people hit it the carve became a hole with a mound of snow on the side, i wasnt lookin so when i did the drop, i went to carve but hit the mound of snow n it shot me off balance off the side of the mountain and i smoked a tree head on, had my bucket on luckly and saved my life, i was stuck pretty much hangin onto the tree with my skiis dismounted and lookin down was nothing but the side of the mountain, fuckin scariest thing ever, luckly 1 of the 10 dudes i was riding with stopped and help me out, gave me his poloe to hold onto while he tryed to pull me up, i almost lost my skiis, but i managed to grab them because my breaks had stopped them from goin down the side of the mountain. had a little scratch on my goglgles, n my bucket was in good shape, but wihtout it id prolly had been unconcious on the side of the mountain, and who knows i could have fell down the side and died if i wasnt holdin on to the tree.

good post, n always wear a bucket, i wasnt even ridin pak that day n it saved my life, just haddda huge headache following that. major bomber, but id rather take a headache then a coma

I showed up at Lake Louise for the first time after moving out from Ontario to ski....Went into the pro-shop and bought a helmet immediately. I would rather break my arm than my head! I have never skied without a helmet since. Im so used to it, I dont think I could ski without it.

Yah first day out in winter park I took a hard crash, got a real bad concussion and was knocked out for a while, spent the rest of the day puking blood and not skiing for the rest of the trip. Wish I had a helmet..

I've been skiing for 14 years and I've worn a helmet every day. why not? they're comfy, play music, and can save your life.

but he is asking do you go the extra mile and get the certified one or would you be good with a hard hat?

not skiing, but skating i was in a cement mini pipe. started raining a little. i was just like o well ill stop in just a little. went up one wall, board slid out went flying. i slammed backward and cracked my head rediculously hard. i didnt put any arms down or anything, just fell straight back. luckily i had a helmet on and survived with just a headache. otherwise i would have deffinetely been in the emergency room, possibly living the rest of my life eating through a tube

Yeah helmets are the shit...I've had my Giro 9 for about 6 years now and it's saved my head a few times. I'd never ski without one, I'd feel naked...

its always worth the extra money if its going to be safer, what is it like 50 bucks or less. your saftey is worth more then that

A helmet is the smartest investment you can make in yourself for skiing, and these stories prove it over and over again.

yo the capix is the best head protection u can get and u need to take all the pads out its way better

They sell EPS approved bern bakers now on www.dogfunk.com. Make sure you get one of those instead of the brock foam kind. They have both kinds so I'm getting the one that is approved. It makes alot of sense.

i have a baker and like a couple days ago i smashed my face, fucked it up pretty good and got a concussion. but any helmet cept maybe a full face one wouldnt have helped much. but ya my baker is sick and it has def saved me and its fine.

I haven't been wearing ym helmet this year much because it's unconfortable and I can't put my hood over it. With some xmas $ i'm gunna have to find something I like.

there has been like 6 times this year all ready when ive fallen and smacked my head hard in the icy park and was soooooooooooo glad i was wearing my helmet

Those pads are what make it absorb the shock. If you take them out, it is just hard shell which could actually make your fall worse.

Not a good idea.

good to know, i've always been a bit skeptical of those. I never ski without my helemt, I know too many people who have had their lives saved by wearing them, and one who died because he wasnt. I saw a guy at fernie last week go bareling through a tree run, air off a little jump going insanely fast, and then just go head first into a tree the moment he landed. Scariest thing I've seen in a while, and as soon as we got off the lift we raced down to make sure he was ok. Luckily he had a helmet on; he was completely fine and able to ride off after chilling out for a minute.
