I'm sure most of you know about this, but there are two stories I recently heard that reminded me about this. Always make sure to check out where you're landing when in the backcountry. I recently learned of a snowboarder who was jumping of a cliff with his friends. They had jumped this cliff before and there was lots of new snow. So the snowboarder decides to go bigger than before but ends up landing on rocks that had been hidden inches below the snow. He nearly died, but the medics managed to get him hooked up to some tubes to help him breath. Another story I heard from the Powder forums. The person was jumping off a kicker and ended up hitting a tree stump just at the surface of the snow. Luckily his helmet saved him from much damage to the head.
