Aluminum Rails...or not.

I think aluminum is actually really soft? You can catch your edges really easy, maybe im thinkin of somethin else

Aluminium is too soft and you will more than likely eat it no matter who far you try to lean back.

aluminum is the best material for rails. it slides super nice and makes a way cool sliding sound. you only catch edges on cobalt based aluminum rails. regular aluminum rails slide fine. try it, i garuntee you'll get sick footie.

pvc is awsome for learnign rails, and it is cheap to make huge pvc rails that can be linked together with minimal effort.

but if u want the real stuff, go steel

Yeah its only like 8 bucks for 20 feet of pvc. Probably cheaper. I just went to a local hardware store. I don't really know if I got ripped off.

only use aluminum if it is round and strait, it its square and kinked it will be shit. i just spent time on makin a kinked rail out of aluminum and i slid it and the aluminum got lodged in the bottom of my ski, so dont use aluminum unless it is circular.

I don't think you got ripped off for PVC... but I think I did, $6.50 for ten feet, although it is 3 1/2' diameter.

The wider PVC you get, the stiffer, the better.

you have to wax the PVC rail up really nicely, it should slide slower than a steel rail... but for the price, you can't beat it.

catching an edge on PVC has never been an issue for me, but if it's really soft I could see it happening.

holy shit, im gonna try that tomorrow, thanks, also since i dont have any snow here, is there an alternative i could use, to ski to the rail on, maybe wet carpet?

uh... use snow from an ice rink, wet carpet might do the trick but I havn't tried.

I think they used wet carpet for the snow jam in-run?!?

what the fuck are some of u talking about? u don't need to fuckin wax PVC. thats the most ridiculous thing iv ever heard.

and as for the aluminum rails, iv never tried it, but i definetly can't see that working, just because its so soft. for example, if u were to put a steel kick stand on an aluminum bike, the steel would crush it over time. i think ud catch ur edges or somethin real bad on an aluminum rail, maybe im wrong tho.

You know something that would really make me applaud? A guy gets stuck in quicksand, then sinks, then suddenly comes shooting out, riding on water skis. How do they do that?

I was thinking about making a magnesium or titanium rail cause I'm guessing it would sound really cool and I could get some sick footie. What the hell? Who cares what it is - slide it. Although, rusted diamond plate would be impressive.

ya, what the hell, who waxes there pvc rail? thats retarded, and if you bought a tube of aluminum itll flaten first hit but if its copping it should work out aight, people do stop signs an it seems to work out for a bit at least

Im probaly the only one, but I dont know that the hell PVC is. And where do i get it, cuz it it works.. Ill try it out

pvc is sewer tubing

and get cheap astro turf stuff from canadian tire and use water and soap (a hoze and sunlight)

yo, pvc hardness is all determined by the 'schedule' like schedule 40 is what i am using on the 'backyard riz' clip in the vid sections and we have had 0 problems in over 20 hits this weeek so hook that shit uP

I have some 40 schedule. Is that the hardest? I know i've caught a couple of edges in it before, but that was probably because I grinded the wrong way back then and I had the edges sharpened.

ok.. u tell me when you are going to make a titanium rail...unless you have tons of money its going to cost u alot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

TRY EVERYTHING EVEN IF IT MEANS, KICKING YOUR OWN ASS

ya i titanium rail would be pretty fucking expensive, but it would be cool cause you could carry to wherever you wanted to cause it would be so lite. 'and for show and tell i am gonna do some mad jibbing from the front of the class room to the hamster caje'

i have a stupid question... does grinding steel pipe mess up your edges? i whould think landing on a steel pipe from 3 ft up or however high you get off your kicker whould mess up your skis fairly good. i may be compleatly wrong, i do see a ton of people doing it, but i always thought it whould be harmfull. go ahead and make fun of me now.

I'll upload a video of my experiment with aluminum from last fall so you can decide

Thank you for reading my post,

Yeah Titanium is not soft like Al and I'll be able to move that thing wherever no problem. I work in Manufacturing and we do custom hand rails for buildings so it's easy to piece stuff together. I think I'll make an upside down trap to trap double barrel Ti rail and name it the Portable Nuttable Rail.
