Alternatives to ADD meds?

I just started taking ADD meds and I hate them. They help my focus a lot, sure, but I feel kind of like I've taken caffeine that is more focus oriented than energy oriented. I get a little shaky sometimes, and I just don't really feel like myself.

Weed is pretty much out of the question since I can't smoke up before class. Does anyone have any other ideas for how to stay less mentally hyper? My teachers are starting to get really upset now.

A lot of people get medical marijuana licenses for their ADD. Perfect suggestion considering were on NS amirite?~

Idk most natural stuff kind of sucks. I would just keep taking the adderall or whatever they are giving you and wait until your body adjusts to it.

I'm still going to be 17 when I graduate so I won't be able to do that anytime in high school. Maybe for university...

I've been reading up on adderall and it's pretty bad for you actually. If anyone has ADD and knows of any "good" medicine then hit up this thread.

I'm pretty sure it's an amphetamine, a small dose of speed. It's addictive, too. Just look it up man I really don't have the time to explain everything.

my friend takes dextroamphetamine.

he was talking about it today, and he only takes it when he knows he needs it. like studying for exams or writing an essay.

look up i think its stratera or something, it didn't work for me, but for some it does, it's not an amphetamine like adderol or ritalin or concerta. idk, i used to take meds in high school, but i dont anymore, which one are you taking now?

pretty sure it's adderal. I just got sent a sample from my parents, the doctor wants to see what effect they have.

Shit yeah they make me able to focus but I don't like the side effects.

how about you get off them and just act normally? ADD meds are really bad for you, you should try curing the problem yourself through self discipline

I have been doing that for almost 17 years of my life now. I've been practicing mediation for the past year now. For some reason my attention hasn't been helped. My teachers/parents always thought I could manage it, but now they don't see very much change. I've tried.

But I don't want to be on medicine that will harm me, so I'm asking for alternatives. I'll keep with the meditation, but for real today was the first day out of any day in high school that I've been able to work the entire time without having to stand up and leave to "go to the bathroom."

I know where you're coming from, i had ADD wayy bad. But one of two things happened, Either all the weed i smoked finally mellowed me, or all the caffeine i drank. I think it was actually the caffeine, i could just be a weird case though.

well from my experience adderol made my feel the most antsy and fidgety. riddelin and concerta and basically the same thing but the concerta is only one pill a day and is time released. while concerta and adderol are similar in function i've found that they affect me differently, i personally like concerta cause i didn't get that nervous over caffeinated feeling. some side affects that you might develop from these types of medication are a decreased appetite and trouble sleeping (for the obvious reason that you are taking small amounts of speed everyday) hope that helps. sometimes some side affects wear off once your body gets used to having the drug in your system, conversely, like an addict, you gain an immunity as well. i'd say check out the stratera, or even just look into the other "uppers" as they act differently if you want keep with some sort of medication.

I know you don't want to hear it but I'd explore into marijuana more for your solution. I've had a friend or two that had real bad ADD they would just be sitting in class doing nothing and couldn't sit still. A lot of times it wasn't in class, they just couldn't sit still even in a relaxed setting. I smoked with them before school one on separate occasions and they both admit that it calmed them down so much and they didn't seem to fidget at all.

If you're worried about the smoke smell just don't hotbox and brush your teeth and noone can tell the difference. If you're someone who doesn't like smoking period maybe look into ingestion or vaporization. You could make some nice cannabutter and put it on some toast in the morning. That would eventually get expensive so I'd really do some research on vaporizers. ?

Basically with vaporizers you're getting pure thc (I'm not sure as to whether its the thc that would help your ADD or if its just smoking period, again some research by you) But you don't have that skunky weed smell all over you like smoking would cause. The only downside is they are expensive, $500 dollars for the top of the line, but you could either make your own or get a cheap one on ebay. Not to sound like a stoner but weed will alleviate many problems.

Dude, I live in a dorm in a boarding school. I've been caught once by my parents already, I can't risk smoking before class. I've smoked here a bit, and it's benefited me socially and helps for doing homework at night but it's just not worth the risk to do it as much anymore.

It's true, when I smoked weed a while ago before classes and during lunch at my old school my ADD was virtually gone. But then again, I lost friends, spent too much cash, and the side effects of slow thinking and whatnot didn't help me out sometimes.

Besides, I have a terribly addictive personality. I don't want to get addicted to smoking and to have to rely on it.

i know exacly what your talking about. i was on concerta for mad long and i hated it. they got some kind of pill that isn't a stimulant. what it does is you take it every day and it slowly builds up in your sestem. you never really feel the pill. i didn't take it though because i didn't like the idea of any chemical getting built up in my system.

Good answer. It's good to see you are responsible enough to see your addictive personality and refuse to give in to it.

Short acting adderall is the best stuff, it only lasts 5 hours and you take a nap and you are back to normal.

i take this stuff called strattera cause i got some wild adhd, it focuses you and makes you not hyper at all. the first week of taking it sucks cause you get all zombied and dont eat but once you get past the that shitty period its pretty good. its not an upper like adderall or ritalin so you dont get that power hour of focus but it works out later
