Alternative Laptop Lock

I just got my new laptop for uni a few days ago. Its a Dell xps 15z.

My brother who just graduated recommended that I lock my laptop in my room because lots of them get stolen.

The problem is that there is no security slot to put a laptop lock on this computer.

So my question is

Has anyone ever used anything else to lock their laptop?
 
Haha i know I could just hide it but im going to be living in residence with a roomate so the chances are that our door will not be locked most of the time and would rather not have to use a safe.

Just seeing if there are any other methods of locking it.
 
Pretty sure every computer works with one of these?

i was originally gonna get one of these, but i randomly found a hotel style safe at costco for only like $30. i figure it was worth dropping a little extra on cause there will be more than just my laptop that i wanna keep secure in res.
 
Yea I thought mine would but I cant find the slot for it.

My laptop is dells attempt of competing with the macbook pro, so they made it super thin. So I think they may have left that out.

I know I could probably find some answers on google but im pretty fucking lazy and out of it right now because I just had surgery.
 
I could go that route but I dont want to have to throw my laptop in a safe every time im not using it. Just seems like a hassle.
 
I was thinking about building a lock for mine out of metal. Never got around to it, but it would work really well.

It is essentially a metal tray the laptop sits in, with the sides coming up about 2cm higher then the keyboard in the back, right in front of the screen. There would be a hole cut in each side. You would slide a locking dowel/cable through the holes, over the computer and right in front of the screen. To take the laptop out of the tray you would either need to remove the dowel (locked in place) or break the screen off, which would still be hard with the metal tray in the way. The tray would be locked to the desk via a cable.
 
Wow thats thought out really well. I might look into doing something like that.

I just really dont want to have to put my laptop away every time im not using it and when I have ppl over.

So something like your idea would work well.

I would like to have something that kept it from being taken so I dont have to worry about it.

seriously, if you want to avoid a situation like this, then don't put your self in a place that can lead to it. AKA don't go to college and you don't have to worry about shit getting stolen at college.

Should i put like a clear plastic bag over it so the laptop can still be seen but wont get pissed/jizzed on ?
 
if you're not afraid of your own semen/piss, just do it!

a little piss has never hurt electronics ....

if you really don't want to get your laptop dirty, photoshop that shit !!
