Alternative fuels in diesel engines.

you can try but its not going to work unless you buy an adapter that will run off the oil. you need it for the engine to work.

so try it, dump it in when you dont have the extra part and see how far you get hahah

Some people talk it, some people live it, some people walk it-some people give it... deal with it.

ur stupid. you dont need an adapter to make it run. oil is liquid just like diesel. you need to change hoses and start the engine off diesel though.

my bro just converted an 02 passat TDI into a veggie car. You need 2 gas tanks one w/ diesel and the other w/ veg oil. You need to insulate all the tubes ect. b/c veg oil gets really really thick in the cold. you start the car on diesel and switch it right over to veg. w/ a dial installed on your dash. costs anywhere from $600-$2000 and the only biproduct is water.

also free gas, you just have to go to mcdonalds or any resturant w/ a fryolator and ask for it and then strain it to get the junk out. word. biodiesels completely different.

...and due to the lower energy content of edible oils, your performance will suck. Also, oxides of nitrogen (the main constituent of smog) are an inescapable part of high compression (diesel) combustion.

^^^yeah davidh go try that and get back to me...

dumbass im a car guy and have run a car off wendy's deepfryer oil. you need something other than oil to get it running. the adapters like 25$ so yeah...

get back to me on how your car runs after just dumping veggie oil in.

If you live in San Francisco you can get a hook installed on the bottom of your car and when you see a cable car track you push a button and it launches the hook into the chain and then you get a free ride!!

i'm bumping this because it's interesting.

the snowcats that use biodiesel are usually only 10% bio-diesel and 90% regular diesel. it still makes a big improvement on emissions.

most diesel trucks/rv's/cars that run on vegetable oil have two tanks. one with veggie oil, and one with regular #2 diesel.

yeah you can do that if you wan to spend 3000 for purification epipment and 1500 for a freaking engine rebuild. Kind of worth paying for diesel.

Did you know hybrid cars are worse for the environment than a car that runs on regular gasoline but gets good gas milage. The process to make hybrid cars creates more pollution than it saves by driving one. Also with most peoples driving habits, hybrid cars rarely ever use the electric part because they need the power provided by the fuel. /offtopic

We're learning about alternative fuels and how to make biodiesil at home in my environmental science class. It's pretty interesting.

Brazil runs purely on ethanol as a fuel for their cars. It's made from sugar cane and has insanly low emissions. Unfortunatly the US will never switch to ethanol because of goverment subsidizing of sugar cane crops.

that and the fact that the US has more than twice the population of Brazil so it isn't even practical
