After talking with the head park guys at the end of last season I figured Alta might actually be serious and step up and build something decent. I always say that if youre going to do something do it right.

Instead Alta and their crew decided to half ass the park and put it in literally the flattest weakest area at Alta. This was the 'trial' spot last year where they were just testing it out and talked and talked about how it is moving to someplace that wont be laughed at by everyone on the hill.

I just expected more out of a sick ass place like Alta. Right now they decided to build two of the gayest jumps ever. They look like jumps onto rails...except without the rails. I dont know I guess it was just alot of talk by the crew last year, which is easy to do. Id honestly rather not have a park than have what they are doing now, its the biggest joke I have ever seen for a park(and I lived in Ohio for many years so thats saying alot.) So congragulations on building the embarssement of the century Alta! Im glad I at least have a bird pass...

 
Dont embarass Alta guys, if youre going to do something do it right or dont even do it. Put it someplace that has some vert and that isnt uphill in places. And stop wasting time building crappy ass piles of snow you call jumps, build something that anyone over the age of 8 will at least be a bit timid to hit.

 
Amen, I'm just glad I have a bird pass. After going through alta's park yesterday and barley even clearing the 5 foot tables because the in-run is uphill, I have decided to lose faith in the concept of alta building a decent park. I mean we did get 240 inches this year it can't be that hard to push together a pile of snow and smooth out a take off, whatever

Although the park crew did pick the flattest run last year at least they used the steepest part of it. This year the genious decided to try something different and build the park going across the hill and uphill. Great park boys.

 
ha ha yeah i saw it i almost pissed myself, what a joke..Ive seen alot of bad parks and that is by far the worst park ive ever seen.. Thank god i got a snowbird pass too i hope they step it up...I mean i know park isnt everything, but when its 50 degrees out it is..The jumps are so small and sketchy..Cant expect more i guess from alta..Big well built jumps are so much safer then small sketchy as pieces of shit u can over clear.. Yeah and that trail is so flat..what a joke

 
Yeah its just sad and Im not sure who to blame. The park designers or alta. Maybe alta is dicking them over. But still these park designers should step down or something, I could sure do a whole lot better than what they are so far. Id just be using my avy shovel too, they have cat time and cant do better....Sad just sad.

 
alta doesnt give them any sort of budget to work with, and their cat driver's are super inexperienced at pushing snow around...its much harder than it looks.

 
Well you would at least think with any amount of cat time you could build something decent....Or get trained, or get people that have some idea how to. Just something, but if they are going to bullshit it all winter just quit now and dont embarass yourself alta.

 
^all your suggestions costed money, and alta doesnt have any money to give to the park,

so until they get a greater demand from the public, dont expect any significant changes

 
You cant tell me that the ability to build a few nice jumps is unattainable to alta. Hell let me ride along with a cat driver and I could tell him or show him how to build a better jump than what they have now. The jump is literally 4 feet long...they built decent small(20 feet) jumps last year, youre saying that they cant just build the same thing except double the dimensions? right

 
seriously, I saw all the park rangers sitting out on the park the other day underneath a tree sucking each other off. give me and my friends shovels and just let us build one. I can tell you right off the bat to at least build the inrun or jump on the steep part of the slope thats a fuckign start

They shouldnt waste there time, seriously its not all $, Does it cost money to put it on a real trail? no. If they are going to advertise a park, they should build a park, thats not a park..

 
yep, they should have put it on the supreme trail and roped it off like they said they were goign to do. Its all talk up there.

 
I agree fellas... the park looks like it's gonna suck nutz. I was under the impression that they had some really 'clued -in' park crew. Would it help if someone on here contacted them with suggestions?

Im sorry, my bad. I should have never commented on the jumps until I saw them. Today was actually the first day I saw them up close and skied them in person. It turns out the jumps are much much worse than I thought and the people designing the park are huge pussys.

 
hahah if thats the first one in the park then yes I saw it. I skied over the top of it and couldnt control my laughter and had to go in for the day.

 
you should see park city's park. you can hit more rails in one run than you could hit at alta all day, and from the sounds of it their jumps are higher off the deck than alta's jumps are long.

anyone who expects ALTA to build a decend park is stupid. you can't build an even have shitty park in two years. I have skied in utah all my life, Park City for the last several. all you tools who come here from out of town didn't see park City in the begining, you see it now with one of the best parks in the county. There first 'park' were there rollers what the nastar course was. So give the guys there some credit for actually putting up rails the first year, Because no one ever does that, not anyone in utah at least. Brighton didn't even put rails in the first year. It takes a long time to build a decent park. The guy who is doing altas is a freind of mine, and I think he is doing a damn good job with what alta is offereing him.

Anyone who thinks they can drive a cat better- you are full of hot air. I grew up driving heavy equipment my hole life: bull dozers, backhoes, excavators and everything else you can imagine. I drove a deer valley cat last year, and it is fucking harder than it looks just to groom a run the right way. so my hat is off to the guys at pc who do jumps, rails, and pipe.

Just give alta two years, if it still sucks than they should forget about it. It takes time and lost of money, PC has a fucking huge budget.

 
I'm only asking for a different slope (or different part of the same slope, they literally built it in the stupidest possible place) and building the EXACT same lip further from the landing. I don't see what the holdup is.

All im asking for is a couple good jumps. They have plenty of snow just sitting there, it is perfectly clear weather. The cats are just sitting, why not build a jump instead of sitting around?

 
It takes alot of time to build a good park. Theycant just build huge things from the get go. Seeing how this is basicly their first year building a park it'll take time before alta lets them build big things

All im asking for is a jump over 20 or 30 foot on a run that isnt uphill...thats not to much to ask for after I have given them 2,000 dollars the past few years.

 
It was funny I was up skiing today. I go to the park and there are like 5 kids with avy shovels making a terrain park kicker....hahaha I know, I started laughing too. I was wondering why they just wouldnt use one of the many cats alta had? I get to the bottom of alta, finished skiing for the day, and what do i see but a cat messing around in the parking lot. Thats right, this cat was taking all the excess snow from the parking lot and flattening it out in a big field.....Much better use of time then actually building a terrain park jump I guess???

Oh yeah and also when you guys are riding supreme chair....right as youre about to get off at the top look at the lip a snow cat built going up to the unloading station. Today it was sooo smooth and beautiful, looked like a lip out of mammoths park. So why cant the stupid fucking idiots at alta put it somehwere useful, like sayyyyyyy ohhhh i dont know the start of a table top?

Im becoming convinced that alta is run by morons anymore.

especially if you are there everyday i am shure you can find some spare time to go talk to the park crew see what the deal is find out what is going on

maybe they have no control over what run the park goes on maybe they dont get the cat time they need to build something decent

the only bad thing i can tell is where the jumps are at on the run

And I have tried to be on the park crew. They didnt want my help, apparently they know how to build decent park they just are choosing not to. I guarntee I could get more done than whoever is working the park now. Their tables are actually dangerous. My friend cleared the 3 foot table twice yesterday and landed way out in the flats...Im almost thinking that their park is some huge inside joke, like a hidden camera show.

haha hidden camera show, it does kidna feel like the 'jokes on you' when you're skiing through it. Ohh and ignore my post from last night if you can even read it I can only make out a word or two. I found the joy that is 40's of malt liquor

yeah the park is a joke. it would be better to not have one, instead of what they have now. the park guys just sit around and build igloos. luckily the Birds park opens soon and it's pretty decent.

They do in spring when it hasnt snowed in weeks and everything is all slushy and crappy skiing conditions but perfect for park. Plenty of people do.

 
Me too, but still id much rather have only the alta pass and be skiing much better snow all year long than own a snowbird pass and ski tracked out snow all winter then have a decent park in spring.

hahah I was there today. THe park is still the biggest joke I have seen. The jumps are at least a little bigger now but the lips fucking suck. They are like 2 feet tall and not smooth at all. Guys...seriously just give up youre an embarassment.
