definately sick, the only place I've ever skied where I had to go through warning gates to ski a single black diamond (no doubles there at all for marked trails). Basically its a sick mountain, with sick snow. One of if not the best places I've skied.

Probally one of the best places I have ever skied. Devils Castle is sweet. If you dont mind hiking and they are open check out Baldy Chutes. There is a ton of in bounds natural hits as well.

i as well have a pass at alta and go there at least 3 times a week, they have the best snow on earth so light and fluffy! and no snowboarders and all the peole there are rad, good vibes, the other day there was a guy who had to be at least 55 smoking a bowl on the lift.

yeah alta rocks. we were shooting there today, but it was too tracked out. there are tons of 15-25 footers and pleanty of 50 foot plus. If you have never been there check out our film this fall for some insanely big cliffs that are in the process of being destroyed by Harrison Brickman. the future of the big mountain scene.

Well...everyone is going to hate me for this, so go ahead and flame away, but I found Alta to be a bit overrated. NONETHELESS, I still had a great time there and I thought that the mountain had amazing terrain. I don't know...just didn't live up to all the talk. Still, good snow and good terrain. I personally had a better time at Brighton...

its right next to snowbird

just kidding, Alta has some sweet terrain, probabably the best mountain to hike-- germanin, devils castle, baldy, katherines,ALFS high rustler all good

becareful,, it can get crowded reall fast on saturdays and the lifts sre old, but hey no boarders!

i love not having any snowboarders there, its not like this whole big deal, a snowboarder would hate alta because of all the traversing one needs to do at alta, keep em at snowbird and its all gravey, and alta isnt overrated you just gotta know where to look, and yes there are 55 year old hippies at alta, although its cool to be smoked out by a hippie on the lift, they are some dirty mother fuckers up there....

Whoa, snafu, calm down. I wasn't dissing on Alta. I stated my opinion, which was that I found it to be a bit overrated. The particular week I was there happened to have really good snow, but it got tracked out faster than the back bowls at Vail on a powder day. To be certain, I am not a local, and I'm sure if I were I'd have a hell of alot better time there. I just had better days at Brighton than Alta. Not saying one is better than the other...just relating my experience.

Jibthis - Youre a fucking idiot, that isnt the reason at all why they dont allow boards at alta. Although they do live in the past the main reason they dont is because soooo much of the terrain you have to traverse to get to, well actually about all of it. And you simply can not do traverses on a snowboard which is most of the reason why they arent allowed, that and alta doesnt like change.

Oh dear god, a traverse! On a snowboard? NO WAY?!!!

Way. It's actually done everyday. I ride with snowboarders that traverse through the worst Whistler Blackcomb has to offer, both in and out of bounds. None of them have ever had a problem. I can assure you that any traverse Alta has to offer can be conquered by a vast number of snowboarders. And worst comes to worst, they can walk, which is probably a better, faster option anyways.

Now that I've completely killed your traverse argument, let's get your head out of your ass and make you face the facts: Snowboarding is only banned at certain resorts, such as Alta and Taos, because of shortsighted head office people who can't comprehend it. High level staff at resorts as diverse as Mammoth, Whistler, Tremblant, Chamonix, and thousands of others have understood a couple of important things that old school, stuffy, 'skier only' resorts haven't yet: it's possible to have skiers and snowboarders share terrain, and allowing snowboarding means more profits. Simple, isn't it?

I'd rather ride with a hundred thousand snowboarders than the fogeys who run Alta and similar minded resorts anyday.

hahahah Jib this first of all the idea of walking on an alta traverse is ludacris. People get bitched at and run over for going slow and being in the way...yet alone walking down the fucking two foot wide traverse.

And you have no idea the magnitude and how the traverses are set up at alta either cause you have never been there unlike I who ride there everyday. Im a pretty good skier and it takes alot of ppole pushes and side stepping in places just for me to get over there. I dont know how you plan to do that on a board with your feet strapped together and no poles....How about you and your snowboard friends come here after april 18th when alta closes and ill see if they can do the traverses at alta. O

Or i could just totally be wrong about this along with one of the managers of alta and a b unch of ski patrolers, oh yes you MUST know more than them andd me.

There you go Jib this and im sure anyone else who rides alta will agree with me. Snowboarders could ride about 20% of the mountain, i have absolutley nothing against boarders but there is just no way they could keep going on some of those traverses. Now anyone else who skis alta tell this fucker waht an idiot he is,

Yeah jibthis I grew up skiing alta and im sorry but there is no way boarders could hang on those traverses, its just impossible with no poles or free legs availabe to push themselves. Sorry but youre wrong.
