Shot from the Wildcat lift, the Alta park is good to go.

This is why I love Alta.

How does Alta work? Like at all the hills near me the ski patrol will come by and stop you from building jumps in bounds, does the patrol not care about building at Alta?

Genuinely curious... I always wanted to go skiing there, it looks awesome.

ha yeah ive never been to a mountain where they'd let you build a full-on booter. so sick

I've noticed at Alta (also kinda goes for Snowbird) patrol don't mind people building jumps as long as they are clearly off the main runs. Meaning, Jerry won't accidentally find himself sending it off a booter. The jumps are pretty much in the same spots every season, but the Wildcat area is unique in that there are so many natural jibbs and features that are perfect for a booter, whereas Snowbird has fewer and are far more spread across the mountain.

Alta looks ok.

Every fucking time I try to be sarcastic, people take it seriously and down-voted me. I give up, man. Alta looks rad as shit. I meant it in a good way.

Ski patrol is way more chill at Alta. There's rope jumps and stuff and they don't really give a shit. I'm pretty sure ski patrol raised a rope so skiers could hit this wind lip on wildcat.

I'll put it this way; while I was digging, patrol would heckle me from the lift every time they rode past. They'd shout as they went by, "When are you going to sack up and hit it?"

A ski patrollers job, at big western mountains that have gnarly terrain, is to ensure the snow is safe and that if you become injured to provide appropriate medical care.

Most patrollers at Squaw/Alta/snowbird/Jackson are not police officers. Don't duck ropes and you're good. Plus most of the pro patrollers shred harder then most other people on the mountain and like seeing fun.

Go to an FWT event and an athlete meeting when the patrollers talk about safety. They generally say do whatever you want, just do it off the groomers.

yeah some of the patrollers at squaw are awesome. we'd ask them to open something for us and sometimes they'd be like "sure, but you better slay it cause i don't feel like coming to get you if you fall"

a guy i know has a great story where he woke up, prob still drunk, overconfident from the night before's antics and the girl he woke up next to, and went and had them open the Chimney for him, only to take his only fall there ever, and the patrollers teased him relentlessly for it

Your question has more or less been but I'll add, where majority of the jumps are built at Alta, you need to enter the area through a gate with a big sign saying your entering expert only terrain. That alone deters the majority or the morons who would be causing problems on said booters. I'll also add a lot of the jumps are Alta are just carved out natural features, there's not a ton of built up booters, as said before though, most of the booters are in the same places each season.

Occasionally ski patrol with block off a jump, as they did to one directly under the Collins lift this season, but for the most part ski patrol is too busy doing avy control work, to really care what people are doing so long as they're not entering closed zones.
