Alta or snowbird

for all those that have skied there im goin to pc next year and i can go to one other but idk wich one?
 
umm, if its good snow both are still good but Alta a lil better on a pow day because of the traversing/hiking you can do to get freshies. If its a spirng like day and the snow necisarily isnt that good go to Snowbird cuz that way you got a pretty decent park.
 
So I'm from Utah and it really depends i ski alta (no snowboarders allowed) but alta is better for big mountain and has a small park. and snowbird has a better park but not a good big mountain. so it depends thats just my opinion at least
 
hitch the tram up snowbird and go to mineral basin. when you get bored ride up the lift thats brings you to the alta/snowbird connection and ski off the sugarloaf lift because they dont check tickets there (at least they didnt for me) so you dont need to get a both mountain ticket to ski both mountains.

but if you want to stay on one or the other you'll have more than enough terrain to ski 2 days easily and not take the same runs.
 
whoever said the bird gets tracked faster is crazy. there are too many good skiers at alta. so on a powder day alta gets beat quick. the bird is primarily beaters so ull find good snow longer at the bird.....unless it rained at the bird and dumped at alta.
 
i like snowbird...

maybe its because the day i went to Alta they didnt have that much snow, but i liked snowbird all around better.
 
from a local...its up to you. if you just want the skier fill then go to alta, but if you want the variety go to bird. if its park you want...stay at pc!! my pass is out of bird, but thats just me. i skied both last year and it was nice to hit both.

you really cant go wrong with either one, its really up to u!! go nuts and buy the duel pass and ski fucking everything homie
 
i was just at both of them last month they were both sick alta is sick cause no snowboarders and crazy powder but park sucks

snowbird has a sick park and some sick powder runs but theres so many more ppl..

so up to you
 
i dont live out there but ive been out there alot, and they both are really differnt but can really be the same. snowbird seems to do more grooming and yea has a better park, but dont go up little cottonwood looking to ski a park. i prefer alta even though on a powder day it attracts more people, but then again i havent been on snowbird on a powder day, ive only been when its been warm and sunny, which is prob a better time to go to snowbird. its your choice and all snow dependent tho
 
Snowbird most deffinately has bigger, scarrier terrain than alta. I've never been on something at alta that had me thinking. Maybe I just haven't skied enough of alta, but it doesn't have intimidating terrain. Nothing beat Solitude of a pow day, and no place has scaries lines that Solitude. If you looking for some of the best tree skiing also Solitude is where its at, but I'm biased towards Solitude also. Or if it snow up north head to snowbasin cause they have amazing terrain as well. I'd stay away from Brighton. Its flat as hell and the millicent chair(ride up) is scarier than any terrain on the mountain.

We went on vacation and solitude on a pow day was most deffinately a score, the back canyon was pretty ill and i forget the names but three or four tree runs to the left of powder horn chair were sick. Day after the storm you could still traverse and make first tracks on them. Alta was ok i wasnt too impressed. Some of the runs out on the far right were good but over all you had to do way to much traversing to get any where good. Thats the only reason i liked snowbird lil more, plus the park is significantly better. Alta was worse than most east coast parks, but then again thats not why you ski there.
 
alta has parks all over. the mountain is a terrain park if u know what ur doing. and brighton forsure doesnt suck.... if u know what ur doing.
 
are you kidding me?alta has some of the cockiest, bitchiest, most asshole skiers out of almost any place ive ever been. thats something youd expect at a place like deer valley or aspen, not alta.

bobs-how many times have you been to alta? i felt that way the first time i skied it too. try to meet up with a local or get someone who knows the mountain to show you around. youll like it 50x more.
 
alta for sure, its so sweet there. its like a community. the madriver glen of the west. although the parks not that great its definatly got a better atmosphere
 
depierre the vibe from alta comes from the mountain not the skiers. alta is the most chill place probably on earth. and plus its magical.
 
They are both amazing i ski at snowbird though. Snowbird has awesome terrian it just tends to get tracked out alot faster then alta.
 
Well stay at PC if you want park, solitude is ill, Alta I didnt really like it Snowbird Has a good park and very good steeps ets kinda skied off, Brighton my favorite I had so much fun just skiing there park is not as good as PC but I still had alot of fun there.
 
i know pc has a good park but hows the back country? im deciding were to go out west next year (first time) im thinking pc or heavenly
 
yeah i agree. i was there like a month ago, and me and my friend found so many sick fresh lines. alot of glorious tree runs
 
i disagree but whatever. i think the people have to do with the vibe as well as the mountain.

personally i think its too crowded to be "magical", but it is beautiful-along with everything else in utah.

my only complaint about alta is the people.otherwise it is an awesome place..
 
Well there both different. Snowbird is bigger and there are more tourists there. At alta its a little bit smaller but its greeeat. But has alot of pow hungry locals. I prefer alta on a huge dump day.

depierre. as by magical... i mean the real magic that does exist there. the fact that it doesnt rain. the fact that it snows like 70 more inches per year than snowbird and brighton both of which pretty much touch alta. alta gets a shit ton of snow, but not too much because some places like north west, tahoe and mammoth get a whole lot of snow, but sometimes its way too much and its not cool. alta is magical and having too many people there doesnt change it. plus i dont think ive ever waited in a lift line longer than 5 minutes. and i skied there every day.
 
they are both super sick areas, Alta is cheaper if that makes any difference. Snowbird will also have a decent park in the spring time which would be good to hit up if the snow is shot. My preference is Alta for a powder day, but either way you wont be dissapoint.
 
If you know ALta you can find some super sick terrain. Also there is lots of good backcountry right outside of the resort. Its only like a 15 to 30 minuet hike.
 
brighton is pretty fun aswell. when i was there there was almost no one at milly and you could traverse to that one O.B. section below one of the dams or whatever once it started to get skied off and it was still pretty fresh. bottom line is utah is super bitchin.
 
i'm moving out there next winter... and i'm trying to decide what resort i should primarily ski. i was thinking brighton. what's the cheapest season pass out there?
