wow al's barn's '06 Salomon Teneighty Gun S Lab skis are $1000, thats alot for skis. i am not saying this place is over priced but salomon wants alot of money for those skis

Als is great, very good, reliable shop

I've used them and I live in CA, not ME

the only problem with using a long distance shop to buy your skis, however, is that ski manufacturers require warranty claims to go through the same shop you bought the skis from

in my case, if I have a warranty problem with my Volkl's (sidewall crack, etc), I have to ship them from San Francisco to Maine and then have them ship the repaired or replacement skis all the way back

it could get costly

^ I caveat that post by saying that not ALL ski manufacturers require shipment back to the same shop you bought them, but Volkl does have this requirement from what I've heard

make sure before you buy skis long distance to read the fine print of the warranty

How is the money from this place not going back into skiing?

Do you think that D structure and getboards donate every penny of their profits to camps and magazines so they can stay open and running for years to come?

No, they take that money and go buy a new lexus every year and laugh about how much they sold overpriced shit to stupid kids for every year.

Al's is supporting skiing as much as any other ski store by selling the companies' skis through their store.

Hi Squawman,

You bought Volkl Mantra's right, as far as warranty goes on any ski, the manufacturer just requires that you have your receipt (which we also keep on record). Any Authorized dealer can warranty a ski, it is just a matter if they are willing to take the time to send it back for you. You usually pay the shipping to the company and they will pay for it coming back. Hope you had a chance to use your skis and if anyone else has any questions about skis let me know. As far as the Salomon Gun S-Lab goes can you imagine how much a hand built powder ski costs to make. There is a reason why it is $1000, we do not set the price, that is up to the manufacturers on inline product. We work out deals if someone is buying multiple items. Plus we ship for free and there is no tax if being shipped outside the State of Maine and we usually ship the day the order comes in. If anyone has any questions please feel free to contact me.

Thx for the clarification Adam

I told you these guys rock.....Al's Ski Barn is a GREAT place to buy skis...fast, friendly, cheap, careful packaging of skis, no sales tax and free shipping. what more could you ask for?

kudos

No Problem,

If anyone wants Mantra's we are picking up all sizes next week including 191cm

. Squawman did you crack the edge on your skis that you bought this spring?

no, it wasn't me

I haven't put the bindings on yet because I was waiting to get a new pair of boots

just bought Dalbello Kryptons, so they are ready to go

Very nice,

I go to try that boot on 2 years ago. Plake had a pair out at Mammoth and het let me try the prototype. It fit very well and was extremly comfortable. Good Choice.

the Volkl guys told me to go with a 184 and not the 191 (I demo'd the 184 at Squaw last year and loved it) because you give up nothing in terms of stability, but get the added benefit of a shorter turn radius for steeps and trees

the 184 was extremely stable at ridiculous speeds, but I still wished they had a 191 to demo just to see

if anybody has tried the 191 and the 184, I'd love to hear a comparison

I bought some stuff from Als ski barn, they were fine.......but i saw the same thing on usoutdoorstore.com a week later. Now i buy from US outdoor and they have absolutely everything....plus the shipping is most always free.

VT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>JAY....winters coming

I am 5'7" 175lbs and skied the Mantra in a 184cm and had a blast. If I was around 6 feet and weighed around 200lbs I would go with the 191cm depending on where I was skiing. Skiing off cornices and drops the 191cm would be perfect, tree runs and backcountry I would want the 184cm (if I was 6', 200lbs). The 184cm rocked in all conditions and is much more fun than the Exploiv was, esp. on groomed terrain.

Yeah I agree the 191cm is a lot of ski, but there are a lot of guys out there that do not want anything under a 190cm. I still have guys that want me to track down skis over 220cm. I can get my hands on some, but not the easiest to get. I remember about 10 years ago if you were on a ski under a 190cm you were a wuss. Some ski shops didnt even carry skis under a 170cm unless they were juniors.

the over charge on bindings.

Skiing in NC aint so bad

I hate it when snowboarders think they are so cool because they can 50 50 a rail

$1000 is a fucking ridiculous price. even the prophets are $200 cheaper than those. salomon is just being greedy.

on a side note, isn't the name of the toy store in "toy story 2" al's toy barn?

Lets see China vs. Hand Built in the Salomon Race Factory. You tell me what is going to be cheaper to make. Any true hand built ski esp. one that is as big as the Gun S-Lab is not going to be cheap. This ski was not intended for Retail like the Prophet is. This is built for the Salomon BC guys.

I am not arguing that it is a ridicoulous amount of money for a ski, but Volkl has 2 skis around the $900 range (MAP) and neither are hand built.

yeah but at least one of the volkls has a leather top sheet. that accounts for part of the price.

Very true, but being hand built costs much more than throwing the ski on a press and producing a few thousand. The Salomon also comes with a full graphite race base. Again not saying that the ski is expensive, but it is not really intended for the public to buy. Try finding the Gun S Lab, not many places carry it because even at $1000 they are making very little on the ski by the time it is shipped. Rossignol B-Squad is even more money than the Gun S Lab
