Alright all you athiests

The "it's not likely it could've happened sans God" argument is just so AWFUL... stop embarassing yourself and the rest of your fellow believers. PLEASE.

Easy response to the latest: the world, the universe, etc ended up the way it did, but it could just as easily have ended up another way. The comparison between monkeys landing planes is idiotic, because they didn't necessarily land the plane all that well here, or at least there are other ways they could have "landed" it. It just happened to end up like this, instead of slightly (or significantly) differently. There's nothing logically wrong with claiming near-infinite possibile functioning incarnations of the physical universe, hypothetically.

Please, please, empirical theists, stop using bad arguments. I know it's SIMPLER to try to make accessible, easy-to-understand comparisons using monkeys rather than using real logic, but you're hurting the team.

My Religion Rant.

in this day and age i cannot believe people honestly reject science and believe in religion so strongly. i have no problem with religion, hell it makes people better in a lot of cases. but i HATE when people go around preaching their beliefs to others. i was raised a christian, but droped that in like 7th grade. thats just me...i dont believe it. another thing i absolutely HATE is born again christians. ok so some fuck up can murder someone or commit a terrible crime, get sent to prison, and then find christ, and suddenly be a good person? that is such bullshit. i do think religion in the past does seem to make sense because hell they were so primitive. everyone should respect each other decisions on religion and let it be. you have to find your own religion.

yes now im an atheist, but that doesnt mean im not a good person, morally. today we dont need to think we are going to hell if we commit a crime...we just know its bad to do.

well thats that.

How bout you give me an argument why there is a god?!

I could make up my own think to pray to and give billions of people to follow it and it'd be the same thing. I think I will. Maybe a giant squirell who controls everything....

Elaborating on what I said before, when arguing about whether or not God exists I think the bible and religious texts are irelevant, because they are all creations of humans who inserted their own opinions. I mean an all powerful god wouldnt change his mind about whats good and whats evil every few hundred years cause he's bored or had a change of heart. Im still not sure what I beleive, but i don't think you can just dismiss the existance of a higher power for reasons like "the creation stories or impossible" or justify his existance through the intelligent design argument. Kind of like the person above me said doing that is just trying to take the easy but ignorant route in this debate

that isnt the dumbest thing i have ever encountered. my IQ is now crashing like the plane flown by monkeys. thank you for making me dumber.

no i have plenty of fun, i didnt mean it that way at all. i just cant argue or debate for very long, its just not my nature. so you can just believe what you want, its really none of my business.

why is that bullshit? can't people change? ever do something you regret? Seems fairly logical to me.

So here's how I see it. Science discovers shit all the time. That's what science is all about. The big bang is a theory that nobody has been able to prove for a multitude of reasons. It is just the same as how we didn't know about cellular biology once upon a time, and about how we don't know whether intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe. However, people get so riled up about existential matters they create stories to explain what hasn't (and might never be) explained about why we are here, etc... That's where institutionalized religion comes in. It has been keeping people's minds at ease since the begining of humans. It's as embedded in our human nature as greed and lust are. There's an abundance of circumstantial evidence that completely shits on Christianity, and most other institutionalized religions, but people keep believing in it because there are some questions science isn't able to prove (yet). I personally am not gonna waste my time

are you retarted? this is exactly what science says...this si why eveyrplanet doens't have life, this is why it takes soo long for an evolutionary movement to occour. possible 1 out of a billion times the monkeys will actually type the whole play perfectly...and thats us. shit just collided in the right way.

i respect religion and all, and you can believe in god.....but seriously if you are going to stand by god then you should at leats look into all of the science and fully understand how it works, and what has been discovered.

WE GO TO A WHOLE IN THE GROUND WHERE WE DECOMPOSE.

FUCK ALL YOU RELIGIOUS PRICK BITCHES, IF YOU BELIEVE SOMETHING, FINE, BUT BE A LITTLE MORE GODDAMN OPEN MINDED. FUUUCCCK!

whats the point of living when you die it is as if you've never existed? this is why religion was made.

I don't follow a religion but I do believe that there is some sort of higher power god (not bible god)

getting very basic on my believes: Is there a scientific explaination on how mass came to be?

or what was before the big bang?

There must be some sort of higher being.

us be open minded? you cant be serious. you are the one saying we just die and thats it, theres nothing else out there.

im not reading any of your posts cause they are too long. prove theres god. if i cant see it its not real. im not gonna believe that there is some crazy thing above me that knows all. thats not god, thats an alien.

Ok, im a catholic, but unlike most i dont get all offensive if peole start pestering me going "why do you believe in god" and other shit like that. I have many reasons that show that a god or higher person exists. All im saying is that How is the world so perfect for humans if not created for us?

The way i see it, we have no fuckin clue is their is something above us n we will most likely never know. (So i dont deny that their might be lots we don't know that could exist)

But stuff like the bible seems like a bunch of shit if you ask me. The only reason that their are so many believers is that people seek comfort and security throught it. It's like believing in destiny, so that whatever you do doesnt matter because you'll end up at the same place in the end. Stuff like that and saying everything happens for a reasons does make you feel safer. But i think is b.s.

im not going to go in depth cause no one gonna change their beliefs, but I have looked into science. Ok, so there's the big bang and evolution, God could ahve created the big bang. He MADE evolution.

JD may, I understand how dumb my argument may seem, but it's just an analogy. Believe what you want, imposing my views on anyone won't change anything. I just ask you to be open minded about it.

yyeah true,i don't think anything any of us says is gonna change stuff... but i don't understand how you say he made evolution.....?

basically there are living things walking aroudn and moving, radiation of some sort come and hits thier dna, then the dna gets fucked up.....if its reproductive dna, then this fucked up dna gets passed onto that things kids. Now the kids have whatever this defect is from the radiation.....if this defect somehow benifits them and they life better and have more babies then this defect becomes the norm and as this defecto version of the species has more babies it becomes the main species and now the defect is the norm....and it just keeps going liek that.

Welllllllllllll, if you read anything about science, which you have not. And I'm not an expert or anything, but I read stuff. And I can't remember which theory it is, but it has to do with parallel universes. Universes, they think, exist in bubbles, and sometime the bubbles collide, this creates a gigantic amount of energy, which could really be a big bang. And this stuff could be happening every single second in parallel universes.

But that's just theroy and you're arguing about the big bang sooo.... that's why I said that. BUT anyways, religion, I think, is the biggest fucking tale tall a group of people could have ever made up. Do you know how many times the bible has been altered for certain religions to want it to sound the way they want it? And how and the hell could you belive some 2000 year old book, written by a bunch of crazy men "believe's" who thought they saw some trippy shit. This is 2000 years ago, they never knew the earth was round. They never knew there was even north america. They never even knew the sun was a star. Or what the moon was. They never knew of atoms, they knew nothing. They were just gullable. They could have seen any simple ecological pheomenon and based it on a sign, from "the lord". Simply, there is only one source all the religions in the world are based on, the bible. One book. One 2000, year old book.

Also about the life after death. I don't believe in god, but I hope ther is something after death. It's just too hard to htink about, well, being nothing.

well if gods story is told in the bible why are there so many contradictions in it. like jesus being with the criminal tomorrow. also told in the parable of the vineyard workers jesus states it is never too late to repent so why dont people repent when they go to hell. so im thinking hell doesnt exist. also it says being gay is wrong so why the fuck would god create gay people.

here's what im gonna do, im gonna start a ski religion. the more you love skiing, the more you will get to ski in the afterlife. in this life though we will pray to the snow god, the good skis god, and the please let me land this god. in my religion, snowmakers, and ski builders will be regarded as holy men, and lifties will be the altar boys. and of course to preach the ways of my religion, the preecher will be required to attend colorado mountain college, or a similar school. our temples shall be our home mountains, and our holy land will be the mountains of far far away, where everyone is too afraid to ski. until one day some idiot will dare to ski these sure death mountains, and upon his return, he will be deemed our savior!

Not trying to beat a dead topic here but I did some more research on this.

A geophysicist with the Carnegie Institution said in the 1960'2 "What is the evidence for a primitive methane-ammonia atmosphere on earth? The answer is that there is no evidence for it, but much against it."

By the mid-1970's, Belgian biochemist Marcel Florkin was declaring that the concept behind Miller's theory of the early atmosphere has been abandoned"

Two of the leading origin-of-life researchers, Klaus Dose and Sidney Fox, confirmed that Miller had used the wrong gas mixture.

And Science Magazine said in 1995 that experts now dismiss Miller's experiment because the early atmosphere looked nothing like the Miller-Urey simulation.

In fact most geochemists since the 1960's would disagree with Miller's atmosphere representing the atmosphere of the time. And by replaying this experiment in a more accurate atmosphere you don't get amino acids.

According to top scientist this is barely the "hard" evidence you use to prove your point.

When the Bible says that the earth was created in 7 days, that does not mean a literal 7 days. According to Christians, God's time is not our time, what seems long to us is not to him etc., so that could easily mean seven periods of time as in thousands of years. Plus, although it may not seem, science backs up the Bible.

i pity the people who are afraid to question religion. those who dont question religion are closed-minded people. much like the kid who started this thread

Usually, radioactivity isn't the cause for evolution. Evolution basically means that as generations go on, a species developes into slightly different variation. Through natural selection, the weaker of the species, will die out and the stronger survive and pass their stronger traits to the next generation. So, just like God makes many processes, like photosyntesis, he would create evolution so that differenet species could either die out or become stronger.

which god? thor, zeus, brahman, osiris.... OHHH right there are a lot of them but you know... they come and they go don't they

Religion is a tool that people have created so that tough questions might be answered, they provide for a morals and a guide for how to live ones life. I am a Cathloc and i dont believe in Creationism, thats just rediculous. Some people might say that they have proven there is no higher power because the big bang started it all but if there isnt a god than how did the particles come into existance. One must take a leap of faith and just believe even though god doesnt effect you every day he is still there, and created everything
