already building for next year

well, the LD CREW is already building shit for next year at our buddies backyard, this year we had a crapload of stuff just built from haybales, and now were making everything pernament. this weekend, we might go buy the wood we need for a 10-12 foot high starting ramp (itll cost us a good $300), and were clearing out more hill for MAYBE an in-ground half-pipe, that would be sweet, but a shitload of digging...we have plans for 4 or 5 rails, all cemented into the ground, a 5 or 6 foot high 30 foot long step down(it was big enough for a 1080 this year, and was smaller), and hopefully a 10 foot high quaterpipe at the bottom of the hill. well those are our plans for this summer to build, thought id maybe give some people ideas...

well, we could quite possibly have 10 guys a day digging, so it MIGHT be a possibility, we have to clear out the area to see if it would be good for a half-pipe first though, thatll be done this weekend...

a 1/2 pipe is a shitload of work man. i'd say make a quarterpipe transfer instead, with a rail connecting the 2

fuckers!

Instead of using lumber for the skeleton work of the ramp use cut down trees.

Thats what I did, and my ramp was like 22 feet up. The only thing I paid for was nails because we stole the plywood...

how the hell are you gunna, shape, maintain and groom this pipe during the winter? It takes ski hills with pre-dug in ground pipes about 50-200 hours of preperation time to make thier pipe...and thats WITH 2 or 3 snowcats and a pipe dragon working on it.

And to dig that much ground would take ages. If the pipes walls were only about 10 feet..and it was like only 50 feet long and about..say 20 feet wide (rety damn small pipe)...thats like 10,000 cubic feet of earth(10x20x50). And if each cubic foot weighed like a pound (im prety sure its more) ..that thats 10,000 pounds (5 tonnes) of earth or more your gunna have to remove. all that for a small pipe. So..um good luck. If you have 10 people workin on it...each person will have to shovel half a ton of dirt this summer.

sorry to kill your fun..but it's probably not gunna happen without some sort of bobcat or diggind equipment.

if you build a half pipe what ever you dig deep is double the hight you can make out of dirt, if you use the dirt from the middle and put it onto the sides you can build the pipe up emensly, still alot of work, but think, 10 feet deep is like 20 feet high. the dirt can also be used for hips and stuff. later

JJ

think about it. you would need like 100 feet of pipe to get in 2 hits. so why not just build an insanely big qpipe and hit it twice

A Quarter Pipe is good enough... make sure that your starting ramp is big enough and have a couple good tables

I wish I had dedicated ski friends to help me with a big project like that. I was lucky to get my dog to watch me make a kicker in the feild this year. But for big stuff like that you need a tractor and a bull-dozer.

All of the shit I make at my house is done by me. When I have friends over that try to help, tehy just get in the way.

My next years Superpark is going to be insane...you'll see. Everything is new..new hill, new rails, new ramp...look out Southern Maine.

Obviously, he hasn't seen a pipe in Wisconsin, except for a few places like tryol, most midwest pipes are just slopped togethern in a couple of hours with dirt patches and all!

yeah, were clearing out the area for the pipe tomorrow, and then well plan and start digging all summer long. were planning a week or 2 in the summer that all of us (10 at the most) can all go there and dig nonstop, and taking care of it will be very easy, there will only be prolly 200 runs through the pipe in a given day, so grooming will be easy as hell, were stealing one of thoise fancy grom rakes too. our starting ramp will be 12 feet off the ground, and were using the left over dirt from the pipe to a)build up the walls or b)put torwards a 10 foot quater pipe at the end of the run, but not accessable by the pipe, only accessable by hitting the big botter well have, i think well still be able to do this, the only thing stoping us is the steepness of the land were digging it in, which well find out saturday, ill def post pics of the entire making of it, from a cleared hill, to a full, 120 foot half pipe with boxes and such, ill lte you all know with what happens

man, its a waste of your you and your friends time..just rent some bulldozers and bobcats

i dont have any freinds, not even my dog would watch me attempt to make rail when we got like 3.148934 inches of snow.

all the worlds a terrain park and the people are just jibbers.

on another note, it sounds awsome, i really wish i could do something like that, i have a tiny hill in my backyard which is barely enough to get speed for rails, meh maybe ill try something like that.

a snowboarder in manotick used to have a half pipe in his front yard. it was like 100 feet lond and the walls were 8 feet high. it was pretty sick

i would agree with most other people unless you can get some kind of equipment like a tractor, tractor, bulldozer then i would for get it cause it is going to be an ass load of work, also i know you have all summer but that is going to take till like next year seems to me. anyway good luck if you go for it it wiil be the shit if you do get it to work.

oh yeah dont forget about rocks and clay and all those pains in the ass

Dude im sorry but what if you guys get no snow like we did this year. And you spent all that time digging and you would have no snow. BUT if you get that done and it does finally dump next year that would be soo sick. Good luck to you all.

well, we might be able to get a bobcat for like a weekend, but that might be a bigger hassle than its worth...but anyways, about the snow issue, if we spend all this time building, once we get get like 4 inches, theyll plow all the wal mart parking lots, we plan on going around and filing pickup trucks with trailors with snow, and then creating at least a 2 foot base, and were installing lights, and hopefully some outdoor speakers if possible

dude, just build a huge 1/4 pipe it will be way better, a nice quater pipe is way better that a 1/2 pipe any day anyways...

uh digging is worthless, you guys wont get anywhere with shovels. you need to rent a bulldozer and a backhoe. it might cost you a couple hundred but you could get it done ALOT easier and faster that way. post some pictures up of the area where ur doing this stuff.. i wanna see.

*leader of the skiing with your pants down revolution*

where exactly are you guys in michigan. I am in Grand Rapids and this sounds a lot better than Cannonsburg or Pando.

Teddy Knape

i live in plainwell, but the park is cooper, if youve heard of it, and yes, it will be wayyyyy better then pando, bittersweet, TR, or caqnnonsburg, if it all works out

LD CREW REPRESENT!!!

Im kinda confused.. u are renting a bobcat and a backhoe rite? cause like, the halfpipe idea is sick, but to dig the whole thing with shovels is crazy.. like it would take 10 hours evey day for the whole summer, then u have to move all the idrt in to its place with a shovel also..

If I were you...and was going to go through with this digging the halfpipe idea I would do this:

I would pile up dirt walls that have a 45 degree angle, then get so big 4x8' pieces of plywood and put those standing straight up on top of the dirt walls. Then in the winter form the actual halfpipe with the snow.

Why dont you make a cement run in for the rails so you could skateboard or something on it in the summer. You could also try to build a halfpipe, and dig a hole and put it in there. That might be a little much though.
