Alpine Trekker's?

I am starting to get sick of hiking and want to start skinning, but do not want an A/T binding that requires a A/T boot. (I like the stiffness ect. of my alpine boot) So has anyone used the Alpine Trekker touring binding? I saw several people at Alta the past few weeks with them and they were using Alpine Bindings? How well do alpine boots work in a touring setup?

First off, Fritschi and Naxo bindings are both compatible with alpine boots--I use Langes in my Naxos all the time.

Anyways, the Trekkers are ok if you're just doing short skins. On hard traverses they'll flex lateraly quite a bit, and they can be tricky on switchbacks. If you're only going to be doing quick runs out boundary gates or short approaches they'll work great, and it seems like that's what you're doing anyway. The only problem you'll need to be aware of is that it takes some fiddling to get them to work with any look/rossi binding for obvious reasons. Some people say it can't be done, but I made them work just fine by adjusting the rail down to the shortest length possible. If you have any other questions feel free to ask me, as I used Trekkers for a season and used Naxos all last season.

I only have rossi bindings... the bindings I would be using them with would be FKS 155's (I did see someone at Alta Sunday with 155's and Trekkers.) How hard is it to make them work? I guess I shoud of put this in the Equipment forum...ha I am still a noob although have been on ns 4 years.

Shouldn't be a problem at all, except maybe in the low climbing setting. Just make steeper switchbacks and the problem will be solved.

Just make sure that rail along the bottom of your boot is as short as it allows and you'll be fine. And then you'll have way nicer bindings for the way down, it'll be sweet.

Yea. Switchbacks can be tricky. Other than that, Trekkers really are fine. I've skinned as long as 6 hours with them, and it's not really a big deal. One of my buddies uses his Trekkers with Rossi bindings, so it's definitely doable. I'll ask him what exactly he did for it to work.

at this point, screw trekkers. everyone i know who has been on dukes now finds no significant differences from most alpine bindings, save a few crazy people, and touring on them sounds so much better than alpine wrekkers. also the dukes are going to be much more duable.

bca is great with warranties and replacement my trekkers after they broke without question, but still scary using them in the bc.

dukes all the way

worth it. getting a decent set of bindings + trekkers isnt cheap either.

Dukes are the shit.

not for multi day treks. trekkers are best suited for slack country hikes off of resorts, or climbs which involves very little change in terrain. i.e. they are great for trips which involve multiple ascents and descents to get to your final location. you can buy replacement heal peices for the trekkers, which is the park i find breaks the easiest. for someone looking forward to the descent more so then the ascent, trekkers are great. i have yet to try the dukes, but even in the naxo or the frischi i do not feel safe to really rip on them. trekkers are a great choice, just make sure you have some duct tape in your pack incase anything goes wrong. duct tape fixes everything.

I used trekkers on look pivot heel bindings and look px12s this last season and had them work fine, they are a bit of a hassle to put into the bindings, and than get your boots into them and deal with carrying them with you. They are a great way to get into the BC for cheaper than new bindings. I really want some fritschis to replace them but due to $$ issues I will be putting another season on the trekkers.

I would reccommend them for anyone who is expanding their BC riding on a budget, if you have a few more bucks buy some AT bindings, DUKES, NAXO or FRITSCHI whatever it may be it will work better
