pretty beat...no college pass or anything...?

meanwhile its 379 for full pass to keystone, breck, and a-basin...

yep looks like the new management has made some decisions reguarding the age group they don't want hanging around their new business venture (19-27). This also makes me wonder how much effort they're going to let Nojahojas put into park upkeep and design. I'm seriously considering heading over to sugarbowl for real skiing and then grabbing up a boreal college pass for park times...we'll see. Bad call Alpine!

I cant afford a $850 pass. I will be skiing somewhere else if they don't make a college/young adult deal. I just sent them an email and I suggest all of you do the same.

I'm considering sending an e-mail aothough I am not sure if I shoulod waste my time. They obviously know what happens if they increase price so I think it's safe to assume they don't want our demographic at Alpine. Sending an e-mail only acknowldges thier success in removing our group. It's super depressing seeing how this has been "home"for many of us and this is the thanks we recieve for being loyal customers providing free advertising and hype for the resort day after day.

Our crew has decided on Boreal and the Sugarwood pass. Thats 3 legit mountains for still less than an Alpine pass.

Jonahs I hope you can express to management the feeling of sadness and disrescpect we all feel by this decision and we are all going to miss you and your crew this season.

for 850, you can get a squaw pass mid week for 920. I love skiing alpine, but do they think that alpine is half the mountain squaw is? I know theres a recockulous amount of people but give me a break, Im def going else wheresss.

Fuck that dude...

Somehow I just knew that new management was going to throw some curveball like this. I mean, luckily for myself, I work as a shoptech, so I get in there for 15 bucks or something during nonblackout... but thats just ridiculous.

I'm hitting up kirkwood this year. A shitload. I'll see you all there this season.

ya know that super chill attitude and community and support for alpine that you guys always preach? yah, ya that one that i'm talkin about? well isn't it funny that it was built on cheap season passes and not anything like a killer park or good terrain? its funny how a few extra skrillaz can a bond like that so fast. makes ya wonder what all that support was really about? you guys are all cockaroaches. don't believe me? well, then maybe you should all look at the dedication of the people who ride at places like squaw.

Yes, but who in their right mind could afford a squaw season pass on their own... even people that make a fantastic salary dont want to pay that much dude. 850 is pretty steep... even if the terrain rival's squaw valley.

Hell, like one of those guy's said... you can get the sugarwood pass AND the boreal pass for less than that... 3 mountains dude...

Alpine is a fantastic mountain, but if the one group that makes a place chill cant afford it, how is it going to remain chill?

They could have raised it a hundred bucks.. even 200 bucks... It would have seemed a bit steep, but 850? what the fuck dude.. thats just not cool. Squaw is the only resort more expensive than them at this point... at least in the Tahoe Basin.

And if you can afford to dump 850 on Alpine, why the hell not dump another 500 into it for the squaw pass...

Do you even buy your own season passes? I know for me personally I learned yesterday that Alpine raised their prices by $450. That's more than double last year's price. That's also close to a month's rent for me. I can't justify that, like not I don't feel like it, but like I can't buy books this quarter if I buy that pass. I'm not quite sure what you're saying here. Am I a lowlife or something because I work and go to school and can't afford 850 for a pass? It's a flat out monetary decision for me, just like it was a flat out monetary decision for the executive in the office in San Francisco who ran the computer program that showed they would make a profit by removing the young adult season pass. The support we all showed for the resort was for great friends an awesome vibe, a park crew that was always open for suggestions and super chill and yeah, of course the cheaper young adult pass for a cool mountain was a huge part of that. When they instituted it a few years back it showed that they cared about our demographic and wanted us there. The new management obviously does not hold the same opinion. I love alpine, like Jex said, it's like my home. Their terrain is second to none in my opinion, their jumps are world class, their jibs are good and their pipe is...well you know that story but we kept hoping it would return, but for me it's not worth it anymore, and I'm very sad to say that. They've lost another long time customer, however I doubt that they care.

and yeah I'm pretty sure everyone who rides squaw likes skiing more than I do, that's why they pay more...

I downright agree with this guy.

EVERYONE GO TO KIRKWOOD THIS YEAR!!!

LETS BOYCOTT THIS SHIT. (and make Kirkwood that much more chill)

If only it was this easy.. *sigh*

Oh well.. luckily I'm a shoptech and I ski there for 15 bucks non-blackout...

still its gonna be ghey this year now that nobody can really go.

yeah i was thinking about getting a pass there this year but after they sold out i knew something was gonna change, 850 is fucking redic. boreal was sick last year so im just gonna get one there and at squaw or rose for real skiing

arghhhh leaves nothin but... northstar. if they are getting rid of our demographic, then they are probably getting rid of the park for the most part. instead of park they are probably gonna add a sled hill and put a nice amount of cash into the day care service.

i wont be riding alpine either any more. I never had to buy a pass before beacsue boreal employees rode for free. Not any more. And even with the discount for working at another resort, if I am going to buy a ticket it will be for squaw or homewood.

I loved alpine for the atmosphere more then anything, and with out the usuall crowed, it has not appeal to me any longer.

I think the cheap pass ruined Alpine. My first season I rode alpine (2000), I paid something like 750 for my pass. It was awesome, you could get fresh tracks days after storms. Then the cheap day ticket came and the cheap college pass and alpine turned into a shit show. Last year Munchkins was tracked out by 11 on a powder day. I was over alpine after last season and when you start talking about changing over to squaw because you're sick of the crowds you know something fucked up. If everyone is pissed at the price of alpines pass it might actually be a good season there again.

Iono dude... if something isnt tracked out by 11am, thats phenomina... especially at a place like alpine. Even if it IS more expensive now, I doubt its going to change much as far as that kinda stuff goes.

I grew up skiing squaw, because as long as I could pass for 15 and under, I could get myself a jr pass and ski for 26 or something totally affordable like that.. If there was a big powder day, even if it was a monday, even some of the less accessable stuff could be tracked out by 11am-noon.

The only diff at alpine is that now your going to see a lot more older season pass holders with children. Not as many younger groups.

The park will be sick still, and it might be cool that nobody will be in there and you wont have to wait... but theres not going to be a chill scene like there has been in years past.

I cant see that as a good thing man...

This is my point. The younger crowd usually tracks the stuff up faster then the older w/ kids.

so? we dont need two squaw valley's my friend...

alpine is chill and for the 19-27 ages.

squaw is for rich folk and once a monthers.

I'm sure the tracking out of powder stashes since 2000 has nothing to do with the fact that fat skis became a staple of every single serious skier's quiver starting around that time thereby making it possible for even novices to ski areas previously reserved for only the most skilled athletes.

Word. I forgot to mention that.

Fat skis have gotten as large as snowboards dude... not to mention affordable...

meaning a lot more people from EVERY age group are able to track things out.

Lol yeah...

at that rate, seriously just throw an extra 200 in the pot for squaw...

that said, homewood is a killer hill.. and we all know what alpine has...

one of the most irrational and illogical things I have heard in a long time; so congratulations on that. You could always flip exactly what you said and on the resort for not supporting thier long time customers and dedicatd riders who promote and advertise for Alpine like they get paid.....even though they pay to ride there. Personally in our "crew" alone we have brought in countless riders to Alpine meaning more money and business for them. Jacking up the pass price 200% in two years in unexcusable and is done for an obvious reason. To remove the higher number of younger riders....it's basic micro-economics. If they weanted us they'd keep the pass price down. dedication isn't dictated by dollar signs...remember that

exactly. All these other resorts have "college" passes. Show up with a college ID, and you get a discounted pass. Its simple, and its totally awesome and keeps people coming to their resort.

However, if you close that door, and only leave one option - to pay bigtime or go elsewhere - that means the hundreds of college students are not going to be bringing their roomies/roomies friends/visiting family, relatives or friends there.

This means less buisness for them in the longrun, because there are a high number of people that I know who are in college, and yet have never gone but always have wanted to. These new customers are no less important than 5 year old kids.. especially being the 5 year olds dont necessarily bring in the money.

I'll tell you right now. When I do take people whom I meet in the future, who want to learn how to ski or ride, I surely am not taking them to Alpine, especially when Kirkwood and Sugarbowl are much closer, not to mention cheaper and much more friendly now that thats where everyone is probalby going to end up until Alpine puts their head on straight again and lowers the prices back to being affordable.

seriously. i can name at least 10 people who don't ski (aside from once every 3 years when they visit the mountains) who i brought to alpine, who bought tickets, and loved the resort. now i'll take them somewhere i can afford i guess

You can call and talk to them too...getting the point across even more...

Call (530)581-8321, or (530)581-8210 Monday through Thursday from 9am to 4pm.

Calling on Friday? Call (530)581-8210.

That sucks for all the Alpine kids. I havent seen so many Good skiers in one place on an everage day. They pretty much took a dump on everyone who has been loyal to them for a long time. Time to move on.

At that point it's worth it to spend the money on a Squaw pass-that's what I'm doing. Bigger and better mountain-sucks about Alpine though.

To whomever complained about munchins getting hit out by 11am - I started skiing 100-day a year seasons at alpine in 1995 and back then we had nearly a week of ulimited line choice back there.

Fucking fat skies made every dumb fuck no-talent gaper a powder star that can side slip and ruin even the trickiest runs

In regards to pricing - ALL OF TAHOE BLOWS -

but I agree that cheap passes ruined alpine, that and the managment change ups in 1999 - that year we closed in mid-june

you will never see that again, no matter how many 10000000$$ passes they sell.

My advice - buy a snowmobile, a 4x4 Baja Van and move north
