I heard they are putting in a Fairmont Hotel / Condo complex with shops and an ice skating rink.

...but seriously, did you really hear it sold?
 
Alpine "sold out" to Powder a long time ago. This might be the best thing to happen to Alpine. We might get some money thrown our way for once.

Powdr Corp. has agreed to sell Alpine Meadows ski resort to JMA Ventures, the owners of Homewood Mountain Resort, according to Alpine Meadows officials.

The transaction is expected to be finalized in June, said Jody Churich, marketing director for Alpine Meadows, Boreal and Soda Springs ski resorts. The price of the sale has not been made public since Powdr Corp. is a private corporation.

Park City Utah-based Powdr Corp. will still own Boreal and Soda Springs resorts on Donner Summit, and those resorts’ operation is expected to remain the same, said Churich.
 
do you think the new parent company will put more interest into funding expansions of the park. I mean powdercorp seemed to have no problem funding the massive expansion of Boreals all mountian park, leading me to believe that the problem doesn't lye within the parent company, but the Alpine management itself. Do you think a different Parent company could persuade the Alpine management into more funding and enthusiam in thier terrain parks? Will there be replacements in management. Also heard rumors of mountain expansion in that Alpine will be that half finished lift on the backside of KT-22 and expand mountain and lift serive in that direction. Fill us in on more details!!!!!

as far as White Wolf expansion; dont count on it

What little I know of JMA ventures and the Truckee gentleman that runs the show is that they are all about expansion and growth of the ski industry. The master plan for Homewood includes new express lifts to replace Madden, Ellis, the Quad, and Quail, not to mention expanding up to Ellis peak which would make Homewood an entirely different mountain altogether
 
not really, boreals management is the exact same as Alpine. So those decisions were made for other reasons, such as boreal really needing the park upgrade.
 
This is very interesting news. I know the company that bought homewood has some big plans and now that alpine is owned by them as well it looks like there is alot of potential for growth at both resorts. The question will be as to whether we'll end up with two more northstars at the end of the whole thing or if they will be able to keep the chill feel that both homewood and alpine are best known for. It will also be interesting to see if they can keep Alpine's crystal clear environmental record going or if all that is out the window under new ownership.
 
nah, Boreal sucks for everything else so there making money of the terrain they have. Also , white wolf would eat people like no other, i bet 20 bucks it never gets opened to the public.
 
Everything right now is pure speculation. I know that the employees are stoked. It will probably mean more ammenities, more lifts, more terrain, and more people. It's was only a matter of time before someone saw the opportunity's at Alpine.

As for the park, I think it will be good. Money for rails? New cats? More staff? Better/more terrain? Who knows?

 
troy caldwell (white wolf) put that chairlift in because he owned the top of KT, and he convinced Alex Cushing (dead ex Squaw owner) to install a chair for him, and he gave him the land at the top. The chair was meant to boost the value of the community he plans on building, giving the landowners a key to the chair to ride up to Squaw, then it stops when they reach the top. When they want to come back, they need to use the key again and download. or else they die. the 5 lakes trail region eats people, like nick said. So, that chair is not for skiing, it is for transportation to sqauw, giving property owners a choice (my dad is friends with him and hes probably gonna get a key (dont worry ill sell copies))
 
I heard about the community he wants to build, BUT where would he put it? Is there enough land at White Wolf? It seems all of it is in avvy territory.
 
perfect....they can build it and it can get mostly buried creating some nice natural condo stalls and jibs.

ON a side note. It pissed buckets of rain at Alpine.....freshies of slush tommorow!!!! PYSCHE
 
he owns the whole five lakes area. from white wolf down alpine road to about juniper mountain, and up the ridge to KT, and back down again. Im down for house jibs tho
 
Five lakes is in the Granite Chief wilderness. The trail traverses his property. He still owns the top of kt-22 and is leasing it to squaw. The chair was and is being installed by himself and friends. That terrain will be rode, just not by the public. Avy 2 cert. required.
