Here is the first real update for the parks in 2010. We hope to build the best park Alpine has ever seen, so please be patient in our expansion. If everything works out this year, bigger and better things are on the horizon for the terrain park at Alpine. I'll try to answer any questions you have about the parks and any other general questions about Alpine. Lets try to keep this thread positive and constructive.

As of Jan. 8

There is more small park features in the sneaky wease and a bunch of trees hidden around. I'll get more pictures up as they get taken.

I'll post up the vid from NickyB as well. Nice job on the vid. I hear your concern on the last jump. We feel it's no worse than it was riding out into Summit runout off Nick's landing. As far as the gapers, we'll try to educate as much as possible. One of the reasons we moved the park is so more people would use them. Including gapers. Sorry they pay the bills.

Let me layout some of the positives of moving the parks onto the mountain. I'm stoked everybody liked the jumps on Roo, but we can do better.

#1- Longer park run: Once we get upper meadow/Terry's return going, it will be about a full mile of terrain park in one run. Rails, jumps and maybe even a pipe one day, all in one run is the goal.

#2 All mountain access: The end goal is to be able to catch at least a little park off any lift at Alpine. I like to ride the whole mountain and I hope you do too. We hope to show the kids there is more to the mountain than just park. So when they get older and brittle, they still ride Alpine.

#3 High speed access: It's almost as fast to ride up summit, then it was to ride Kangaroo. These chairs are going to stay open longer. Remember how every year the park would close early because they would stop running roo? Well that's not a problem anymore.

#4 More snow for the jumps: Once it really snows, there will be more snow for building and keeping them up. We run out of snow on roo every year. I don't think it will be a problem under the palisades/lower saddle avy runouts.

#5 Breakovers for jumps: It takes much less snow to build awesome landings with good rollovers. There was no breakovers in roo, so it was all dictated by how much snow we could make. Plus in runs will be better for longer smoother takeoffs.

#6 Better rail set-ups: We've never been able to set up good rails because of the slope we were working on. If you've noticed the rails are probably better than they've ever been on roo.

#7 Better photo opportunities: Look around when your in the new parks. Roo was in a hole

Well thats a short list for now. I'll get more up when I have more time.

dude, fuck yea. cant wait to get up there, that second stepover looks SICK. great work jonas

Heard you guys put up a manly d-f-d next to the down bar the finish the rail line. Can i see some pics of it would be appreaciated

yea, the park staff has control of the how hard the landings are. and they're all from the east coast. so i guess it only makes sense...

^Easy, WEST CoAST REPRESENT. All my crue is from the east coast though.

Don't worry about hard landings anymore cause it looks like it's going to snow for a while. Hopefully enough to really blow these things up. Bigger the better.

I don't have a pic of that last DFD. I'll get more pics up after the snow.

Hey Jonahs- you know that natural jump up above roo? The one that looks a bit like the Chad's and Pyramid landings? I think that Plaid's Gap needs to be built. Or Rad's Gap. Or call it Chad's and see what kind of shit flies in Ski Gabber.

Good job with the park- it looks fantastic. Stoked to go up again, but I really wish you'd bury one flat bar closer to the ground, that's longer than the 8' stubs that appear in Tiegel. When I think about stepping up to longer rails, I don't want to fear for my balls until I have it figured out, just a bit.

I've heard it called all sorts of things. We call it "the boob". Thought about that gap before. Not sure if it's possible but maybe.

There will be more intermediate jibs in roo ridge when the snow falls.

Worked on the jumps in the sneaky wease last night. Made them into skate style hips. They're like half a skate pyrimid. We'll probably put some jib bonks on the decks.

I was going to take some pics of the big DFD but I forgot once I got working. I did get some pics of some of the tree jibs that we've been riding the last couple days.

i am soo stoked to be able to ski the palisades and the park in one run thats gonna be dope...though still my favorite run was beaver all the way through roo.

I do have one sugestion: can you make the entrance to the park a bottle neck that has an entrance like this: ---_--- because i almost landed on some people earlier this season on the last jump because they would just post it on the side of the deck for a few minutes. i would wait but when it was apparent they werent moving i would drop in and thats when they decided it was a good time to ski to the middle of the landing...

Also i have always had a pet peeve with small/medium parks (ie. roo ridge). They have jumps up to 25 feet but the landings are super flat. Could you build some like 10-20 ft kickers with a good landing? because that would be soo much safer for me to learn on. I mean i feel like i have to hit a 50ft jump to feel safe crashing b/c they're sooo much smoother.

I don't have a pic of that Kink but I got some video of this young ass kid named Chris Verrue greasing it. Its towards the end of the video he is the steezy grom slaying it in the Oakley Jacket.

We've spent the last week digging out and just getting things rideable again. We did manage to also get Roo ridge going with some intermediate jumps and jibs.

Here is what we have out there right now.

Red ridge rail line: 24' down, 36' d-f-d, 36' u-f-d, 24' u-f, 30' up, 32' f-d, 24' down, 40' d-f-d, 32' down

Dancefloor triple jump line: medium step down, large step up, large step over

Roo ridge: 24' flat box, 24' flat down box, four medium jumps, log stall

Sneaky wease: Container ride, three small jumps, four rollers, three burms

Tiegal: Butter box, tube stall, flat box, three small jumps

Now that we've caught up, we will be switching stuff up and adding more features. Look for more jibs on the skiers right side of the dancefloor jumps, more features in roo ridge, and construction to begin on Terry's return.

We'll see what the weather does.

I am very stoked to see what's going on! The new park sounds better and better every time I think about it, I'm pumped to get out there and learn park! The stuff on terry's will be a godsend- finally I will have a legitimate excuse to find myself in the park, and I might even learn something.

What's up with the sub par jumps this year? Alpine seems to always set the bar for jumps in Tahoe, but they are pretty weak right now compared to Northstar. The rolling knuckle to flat landing on the last jump is a miserable way to end an embarrassingly small jump line.

On a positive note, the rails are fun and so is the fact that you can do some real skiing down to the park. Not trying to hate, but it is just a bit of a let down after the epic line last year.

Thats funny you say that. I just got a call from Team Sessions saying that the jumps were sick today. Have you been out this week?

Yes the jumps the last couple weeks were not that good but we also got around 10 feet of snow. Before that we didn't have much snow at all. So if your comparing to the end of last year, yeah they suck. But if you compare to January of last year, It's the best it's been in 3 years. Hands down!

Ater this weeks rebuild, the jumps start around 30' and end around 50' right now. If you can find a bigger triple line right now, I'd love to see it. Bust out the pics!

definitely had fun today... as far as the jumps are concerned the triple line is really fun and decent size (definitely bigger than what squaw has right now) couple of homeys thought they should be lippier for getting off ax and maybe upside down but thats a matter of opinion... my opinion would be to build the lip up a bit more on the step up so it would be more like a table

tracks were put down in m1 and bloody knuckles today as well... still some real nice snow up high on north faces

Man thank you for saying this, i was thinking about that guy saying "sub par" and thought what the hell? Are other resorts really that crazy right now. Cause i was up there this last weekend and everything was so clean and fresh, defiantly major props to the park crew for maintaining everything. Ridge was super fun, the jumps clean as always, and that last d-f-d is the sickest thing ever. I like how the last down bar is lower to the ground for people to learn stuff on, and the ridge jumps are perfect for practicing grabs and switch riding. The only thing i am gonna say though is i wish there was another flat bar on ridge so people who are riding can progress their tricks and style to the bigger park. But overall Killing It all over the mountain!

Ya, park is sick now. Very fun. Are the battleship or flat down boxes coming out anytime soon? Also super stoked to see a big tree stall, is that run in goin to be groomed at all?I guess my only suggestion is more jumps and jibs with more variety. Bigger one on Sneaky Weasel?

We're in the process of trying to get all the jibs on the hill. Just put the big F-D box and the Rainbow out last night. C-rail, battleships and the rest to make it out very soon.

I'd like to point out that we are working with a tiny staff. We have 6 guys on staff total . 4 day guys and two groomers (including myself). That means on most days I have a whopping 3 guys (2 day, 1 night). Please be patient with us. We are not like any of the other mountains with large budgets and lots of staff. We run bare bones and it takes us a while to get stuff up. That is not to say were not trying. We do this for ourselves and the love of building park. Someday we'll get that inflated budget.

Oh yeah, thanks for the props from the people that are having fun out there. It's only getting better.

Finished stacking all the jumps on red trail. All the jumps are good size. Try to get some pics tommorow if the weather lets up. More jibs up tommorow night. I'm planning on starting to push on terry's next week. Mile long park once it's done. Come check it out.

Sick!! I heard a rumor you might be breaking out that gnarly green C rail again this year? Is this true? That would be pretty dope that thing is legit.

C- rail/ bow is up. new flat box on roo ridge. Just tried to make it through the madness this weekend. I'm off the next two but Terry's push will start Wed. Look for it to open hopefully by next weekend.

Anybody been hittin the jumps this weekend?

yeaaaa i was up there on fri/monday, pass was blacked sat/sun. but the jumps were dope. sometimes i had problems clearing the knuckle on the stepover if i hit the first jump... but the first and third jumps are good, the third is super soft and a lot better since you guys raised the knuckle a bit. my biggest problem is getting the speed for all of them so you can flow through. Also, i hate making up my mind between hitting the flat down box and the rainbow or jumps. it would be really sick if the park was longer instead of wider if you know what im sayin, kinda like the flow line of that medium sized park on roo. for example if all the rails up top were alll in a line instead of packs of 2 that would be G cause all those rails are super fun. other than that i have to say the park vibe is awesome, the lips are almost always in prime condition (at least 95% of the time), and theres almost never any lines or waiting.

Big ups to nohajs for dope features.

Yes, there were people hitting them.

Some of the Freestyle team guys were slaying it, but one of the guys was having trouble clearing that 2nd jump's knuckle, no speedchecks or anything. I was there doing some photography, so I'll post up the pictures I shot when I'm done editing them all.

Here are some pics of the last booter at Alpine today. PRETTY FUN DAY. I guess everyone is having some trouble clearing the second step up as it got later, but the first and third hits are $$$$$

We put our lil' SB1 speaker on the lip so our riders can have some beats just as they leave the lip...pretty fun.
