Alpental BC

last year couple friends and i started to poke around the alpental sidecountry started out following people because we didn't know where exactly we were going then eventually got to know the area pretty well. we never went farther out than draft dodger ridge. this website makes it seem pretty sketchy http://www.alpental.com/snow-l.htm

so my questions are

how much sketchier is the farther out stuff as far as getting cliffed out?

if it is sketchier following people/tracks isn't a very good idea so are there people on here who know the area well and would be willing to show my friends around the area?

my friends and i (3 of us total) have taken our level 1 avalanche saving up for beacons and level 2 class, not looking to take you're best pow stashes but get us familiar with what looks like a super sick area.

Those areas are just as fun and usually less tracked out. In terms of danger, they are as dangerous as you want to make them, use commons sense, ski in groups and go with someone who knows the area. Unicorn/Big Trees is some of the funnest BC I've ever skied, but just like the rest of Alpental, getting cliffed is totally doable if you don't know where you are going :)

well depending on where you go it can get pretty sketchy but really fun. My brother and I went out to piss pass, hiked up to the top of some mountain dropped off the back and finally got to great scott bowl and it is so sick! Then we hiked up this chute on the tooth and skied that. just be safe and watch out for the river that is kinda below trash can.http://www.alpental.com/FarBack.htm

I thought you would be the one to ask if alpental had a bc you dirty park rat... ; )

"Alpental BC... thats the place where you build jumps in the spring right??"~

If you've never really skied out there you'd be best off taking the high traverse to Piss Pass then eating the snow at the base of the first conifer on the right. Its like a right of passage. Then ski up hill until you feel the first gust of wind and kill yourself.

Or ski central. It's up to you.

they're legit, i wouldn't really fuck around back there without someone thats at least been around a few times, you'll be safe if you use common sense though

ski with a partner, don't be an idiot, bring a shovel and a transceiver, thats about it.

Depending on the snow year, they can be really fun or fucking crazy. Last year, you had to traverse out of the bottom of Little Annie's because it turned into a death trap.

Alpental BC is just a mess though, and it's always tracked out. Don't bother going out there ever.

only times i've gotten in trouble is in low snow conditions. probability of getting cliffed out goes way up and stuff that is fine with more snow gets impossible. or one time i snagged on a root and fell into a river at the bottom of a pit, that was fun.
