Alpe d'Huez - how to ?

Hello good people of Europe, but the rest that have visited also feel free to chip in with some useful info.

This Friday I'll be traveling to France for 7 days ski trip,Alpe d'Huez to be precise. I know we could have picked better date for skiing in the Alps but it's a group of us 17 so it was really sketchy and this is the best we could do.

What's the best website to check out the weather for 02-09 Feb. From what I've seen weather is looking to be sunny with snowfalls.

We'll be staying in https://booki.ng/2WrqnRM in appt for 5 people. There is a kitchen so making some breakfast is definitely an option. Any supermarkets where we can buy some eggs, milk, sausages etc? Is it super expensive ?

How are the prices of food and drinks on the slopes? What are cheap places to get some coffee or a beer,or maybe a sandwich ?

Could you recommend some good freeride terrain that is avy safe? Couple of us will be looking to get some pow and woods turns, so feel free to point us in right direction. Also anyone interested to join us is more than welcome, we'll be skiing in smaller groups and like 5 of us will be looking to hit some jumps or rails, we also got couple of GoPro's so that's some insta footy fo sho.

We will also have a free day in Les2Alps, let me know if there is some cool stuff over there too, please.

I don't know much about the french alps because I've been everytime in Austria and Italy the last seasons. But a good App to Check Weather/Lifts etc. in the Alps is Bergfex. Or use the website of it. I think that france is a little cheaper than Austria where you can get a nice meal for like 10 € at the mountains. Otherwise aprés is allways expensive but there are often Happy Hours. Freeriding should be possible and Le2Alps seems to have a nice park and to be a nice area in generel.

Oh and at the gondola at the bottom you allways find a sign about the current avalanche risk.

Have a nice trip.

Food is always pretty expensive up the hill in French resorts, but French supermarkets are always the shit and can be pretty cheap, especially for alc!

It’s quite a high up resort so so pretty snow safe, plus has been dumped on quite consistently so far this winter! Been to L2A earlier this winter for a week — pretty sick park and glacier skiing too so super snow sure, really good apres there too - PanoBar up the mountains was pretty sick! Expensive as fuck for pints though, looking at 8€ or so per beer ..

Hope you have a sick time though !

There are always a lot of small supermarkets in French resorts. I don't know what is "cheap" for you, but from what I know it's on average 10-20% more expensive than in the regular supermarkets outside of ski resorts. It's still cheap enough tho compared to the restaurants, where the average is usually around 15-20€ for a good meal. You can find way cheaper tho if there are kebab or burger places. Pizzas are usually around 10-13€. If you can, I advise you go shopping in the closest big city from the resort, and bring it up there.

I wouldn't trust the amounts of snow forecast too much but as a general idea of what the weather is doinghttps://www.snow-forecast.com/resorts/Alpe-d-Huez/6day/mid is pretty good. the Avalanche buletin herehttp://pistehors.com/backcountry/wiki/Avalanches/Isere-Avalanche-Bulletin is basic but gives you an idea, Grand Rousses is where you will be. (Oisans is L2A)

'm not sure how you;re travelling from the airport but if you;re driving it's worth shopping for the week in the valley town Bourg before heading up the hill. Any food you buy up the hill will have a premium because of having to haul it up the mountain road, same applies again for food on the hill. If you can, plan to eat in town during the day rather than up the hill.

The Vaujany/Oz areas are your best bet for some tree skiing. From the forecast it looks like there is to be quite a lot of snow so the upper mountain could be shut until theyve got that under control so there might be a good place for skiing while the upper is shut. once open there is plenty easily accessible patrolled terrain on the upper mountain. If there is a group of you, a guide might be the best idea to get to good, safe freeride spots though.

The park in ADH is average, the L2A park is much better but I dont know how you're group would feel about spending the day in the park on a one day trip over there.

it's the french alps, it's expensive to drink and eat out - loads of shops/supermarkets and the supermarkets are great for food (especially cheese - reblochon).

just use thehttps://www.alpedhueznet.com/ for snow and wecams, also a fairly reliable if simplistic weather forecast.

if you want something better then go onto the bbc website as this is from from the met officehttps://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/0/3008406 so is pretty good.

if you've not done europe before enjoy it and let us know how you get on.
