almost all music nowadays sucks ass!! what the hell is happening!!! everytrhing is pop, emo punk, or really shity mainstream rap! mtv is a bunch of bullshit 'punk' fags with no tallent, why!?

actually, i dunno bout that. I like white stripes, but everything else thats new is pretty bad. Now we have an influx of boy bands with instruments(they have evolved), like good charlotte.

so much nudity and porn on tv, i just sit there shaking my fist at it!
 
yeah, the majority sucks...but hey, turn off mtv, and start asking people around you what they like, and soon enough you'll find bands that don't suck..

I agree totally. I don't watch mtv at all. All of the modern 'new' music is horrible. It's either a whole bunch of yelling, screaming, rockers who have no talent at all. If you're looking for good rock music you have to go back to the 70s.. and well, rap, it's all the same to me so i dont know.

get into more underground stuff. sure, its not as easy to gain acess to, but its worth some digging. few people listen to reggae and its really hasnt been corrupted like punk is becoming. there are still some honest and truely good punk bands out there, but the number of them is diminishing

There's soooo many good bands and labels out there right now. Just because they're not on MTV and the 'hit' radio stations doesn't mean they don't exist... you just gotta find them. A lot of the great bands nowadays don't even WANT airtime on the giant media-empire controlled music television stations and airwaves.

pick up less than jake, smile empty soul, theory of a deadman, rancid, new mest cd is alright, social distotion, sofa king, downhill nikki, hoobastank, disturbed. the new mudvayne cd is jammin. but the white stripes in my opinion suck. just go to cheap shows and a lot of tmes u weill find some really badass opening acts. u cant be the 70's tho

well if you hate all the rap on mtv and your looking for something new, just buy mix tapes. theyre half as much as regualr cds and have twice the amount of songs on them. i just went and bought 6 for 25 bucks. and the average # of songs on them is 35, its non stop hip hop, some of it is the singles, but most is underground freestyles and tracks from rappers youve never heard of, but thats my suggestion for those who listen to rap. peace

blink 182 didnt break up..they have a new album coming out this fall. I hate those bands that think they're punk, but they're not. like good charlotte or simple plan. it's fucking annoying and you can say that blink is one of those bands, but they have good, funny songs

yeah, 80's were pretty bad, but you had bands like metalica, pearl jam, nirvana, etc that were formed then, plus grateful dead made a huge comeback in the 80's. It wasnt all that bad, but 98% of it was total crap.

70's and 90's were the best times for music, the 80's had some good stuff too but there was alot of crap then, there is good music these days just not as much as there was, music styles have changed alot, most people cant play there guitars and stuff worth shit, and most rock bands just scream and hit there guitars as hard as they can, but there is still good ones!!

there really is a lot of good music out there, especially a lot of heavy metal oriented bands, and hard core bands. I'm just glad I'm in the boston area where we have two rival stations that play a lot of new and local metal and generally good bands. There have been some damn good bands mentioned in here, but too many to name left off.

Anyone here ever listen to Superjoint Ritual, Phil Anselmo's (pantera) not-so-side project)?

And you can't forget about some of the older stuff too, old school 311 was sick, Phunk Junkeez - Injected was a pretty good album (early metal/rap/hardcore cross-over), and every now and again its fun to rock out to some old school hair bands from the 80's

 
The key is in the underground stuff. There are some awesome bands that no one has ever heard of. Theres a few coming up just in the area that I live. Rock will have its day once again and it will be much bigger than it has been.

you are all complaining about crappy music, just go start your own band, play what you enjoy, and get involved in your local scene.

 
the thing about music for me is this. You can do 1 of 2 things. First you can do like the majority of people and listen to MTV, you have a selection of pop punk and mainstream shit rap. Now, this music isnt nessecarilly bad, some of it is good in my opinion, but the thing about it is, how can you say some mainstream band is your favorite band when you havnt heard 1/1000 of the music there is to hear in the world?

The second thing you can do is go on sites like tese, check out all the different kinds of music out there, check out what you like, then come back and ask people about other bands you like and get a really broad library of music you like because it all branches off and before you know it you find tens and tens of good bands and even a few genres of music you are really into. thats what I just recently started doing and I already like lots of softer or harder 'emo' stuff, I hate that term, like the Get Up Kids, Saves the Day, Fairweather, Autumn to Ashes. As well as some good jazz although I havnt looked very hard into it like I should have, Joshua Redman etc. I never though I would like rap but I found some good shit that I really like, Jurrassic 5, Classified etc. I also like some good trance and alot of everything. Hell, I even listen to classical guitar and Mozart once in a while. You have to look, and with internet today its easy as shit.

i don't know about the rest of you but i fucking hate nickleback and all the new bands that try and copy their sound (denial(?), theory of a deadman). it's just so fucking horrible and generic. i've moved away from mainstream music and started listning to huge amounts of metal (fear factory, soilwork, glass jaw, in flames). although i like this music, i hate the gothy image that goes along with it.

 
oh yeah, as others have said, new metallica sucks! they should just give up and play their old music. that st. anger song-- holy shit is it ever annoying!

 
people have to realize that it isnt the bands themselves that suck these days, its the record companies who do. i know that for a fact.

for instance, when good charlotte was first signed onto epic recs, they came here (ottawa) with mxpx, that was back in 99 or 2000. they were not the pop-ish band you see on mtv now, they were a punk band who delivered a great punk show.

however, the record label saw that they were gaining popularity, and basically changed their image and music completely into what you know today. they now sell countless discs to little teen girls, but their old core fan base was left in the dust.

what im saying is that the record labels are the ones to blame, because they have the ultimate control over how and what each band plays, and how and what they look like and act like. the band goes along with it, because it fills their pockets with cash, but the whole 'selling out'/MTV mainstream idea of music, which some of us blame on the bands, is really mostly fat executives in these companies with dollar signs for pupils.
