All the film rigs out there.

I am preparing for multiple shoots this winter and looking for inspiration for a nice, reasonably portable film rig.

What are you guys shooting with? I'm probably taking either a FS700 or a GH4 depending on budget. Ideally I'd want to go from stick to handheld quite swiftly.

Right now I'm thinking about grabbing this guy and modding it a bit. Having a C-top on it so I'm able to go from sticks to shoulder to handheld follow cam easily.

Ladies and gentlemen, show us your rigs.

I hope you have a large budget. Those cams are spendy, and thats just for the body, and your gonna want a motorized camera stabilizer, Glide cams are frustrating to use. Your looking at at least 5K going with the GH4, lens and reliable stabilizer.

GH4 - $1,700

Solid wide angle + maybe an adapter - $700-800

Glidecam - $500

=5k? yeah, no.

Glidecams are rather easy to use as long as you know what you're doing, they're way simpler than trying to calibrate a ronin or similar 3 axis, I don't know what you're talking about. Especially for skiing.

Alright, no shit the GH4 is 1,700

lens, ya anywhere from 700-800

3 axis gimbals: Ghost V2 with a few bells and whistles - $3,000

FREELY systems MOVI - $4,000

DJI Ronin - $3,000

Its worth the extra money for a 3 axis gimbal system, its equivalent to pretty much having a dolly track run the entire length of the hill. Gimbals are considerably easier to use, and lighter weight.

No one "needs" a $3k 3 axis gimbal. Sure it's dope but for skiing a glidecam works great and is affordable.

If youre getting a 3 axis gimbal just for skiing and aren't pursuing a full time career in the film industry you are insane.

A full gimbal kit is around 5k to 6k with the gimbal, video transmitter, wireless focus, and field monitor. It doesn't make sense for just ski edit. And you'll want a second operator to get framing perfect with fast action.

^Word

Being a film student I was looking at the situation as if you would be using it for other projects besides skiing.
