All pop artists bad?

I know that most of you despise pop music, but are there any pop culture artists that any of you do like?

I'm not a huge fan of the pop culture, but I do like Micheal Jackson and the Monkey's.

(this thread is not for bashing pop music, so please do it elsewhere)

Yes all Pop music does suck. What I hate is when i like a good band, and they are small, but since they actually have talent, more and more people begin to like them, and they become popular which eventually forces them to make pop music. It is very hard to make good music, and stay true to your roots.

Micheal Jackson, lol. I don't hink anyone on this site can deny that they liked him back in the day. bUT anyways, it isn't all that bad. Some of it's catchy. Maybe not good, but catchy. I also think that there are people that just 'think' pop music is the worst, just to be Devil's advocate, or not look like a 'fag' or whatnot.

when you say pop do you just mean whatever was really popular? Cause pink flod was selling so many copies of darkside of the moon at one point there was a factory in germany that only made that cd. I really cant stand 98% of the music you hear on mtv right now but in the past good bands were popular. I just hope jambands never ever become pop.

No, by pop culture I don't mean popular music. I mean stuff like New Kids On The Block, Tiffany, The Beach Boys, The Misfits, Madonna... like teeny bopper stuff. The stuff that's even more known than popular music, and is NEVER written by the same people who sing it, and the biggest fan base is like 10 year olds.

You're looking to piss someone off with that misfits remark

Haha, I just came back to clear that up. I confused the name with an 80's pop band that I can't think of right now. But if I pissed people off, then bonus

manufactured pop sucks...thats a scientificly proven fact

I’m off on a rocketship prepared for something new

I’m off on a rok-it-ship ecstatic with the view

I am scared of the things upcoming

And I want for the things I don’t have

Cannot stand to be one of many

I’m not what they are

The Beach Boys 'Pet Sounds' album is one of the greatest albums of all time. A major influence on Beatles recordings, indeed! You need to further clarify your meaning of 'pop'!

The Misfits I know of aren't an any way equal to...'like teeny bopper stuff. The stuff that's even more known than popular music, and is NEVER written by the same people who sing it, and the biggest fan base is like 10 year olds.' So I'm thinking that we are thinking of different bands. lol

Yeah anyone who likes pop culture would die if they heard The Misfits. 'Oh my god, they play their own instruments, write there own music, don't lip-sync, and it hearts my ears! Turn that crap off!'

i think before u can discuss this kinda stuff, u have to be able to define the term 'pop music'. pop music, in my opinion, isn't made to be that. (this is just in my opinion, although it is educated.. i've taken a few courses on music, one of them being pop music).. anyways - music is made by the artist to their specifications for the most part, and after the record is put out, it is up to the masses to determine what it is. a band like nirvana in 1988 couldn't have been further from a pop group.. but by 1993, people made them into the epitamy of pop. other people such as britney spears, n sync, bs boys, etc etc are a different situation, and i think we all know that their music is pop.. but that's beside the point. somebody mentioned madonna in all of this, and i really disagree with the notion that she is 'pop'. madonna seems to be the one that defies genres. take a look at her last few albums, and u will notice that she's always ahead of what might make it to pop status over the course of the next few years......

I still don't know what we're defining as 'pop'... but but I like Mary J. Blige and some of the new stuff like Vanessa Carlton, etc... if you call that pop.

'Our society places a supreme value on control, on hiding what you feel. It mocks primitive culture and prides itself on the suppression of natural instincts and impulses.' - Jim Morrison

To me pop is not short for popular, it's a genre of music. To me you can't become pop. A lot of people listen to Pearl Jam or Tupac, but there's no way I could class either of those as pop music. Mary J. in my opinion is R&B, not pop.

Obviously this is easily debatable, but it's the way I see things. I tried to say pop culture to stray away from pop-ular.

im not a fan of pop music. pop culture, though, is something we are exposed to every day, like movies and tv and crap, not just the music. but i do see it as a genre. like i see blink182 as pop-punk. so yeaim nor a fan of pop music at all.

ya, it's true.. i didn't define pop at all in that post. ah well.. i'm definitely too lazy/tired to do it now. all i've gotta say is that pop music is music that is popular. great articulation.........

Let's just say that 90% of the stuff you hear on MTV or Muchmusic is pop. And it blows.

There are some exceptions I think, like Matt Good Band, he has a lot of music vids and radio songs, but he's not really popular, he makes his mumsic how he wants to because it's what he wants to do.

i believe that pop has developed an identity of boy bands and slutty girls who dont right their own music, which we have all come to hate, i have no repect form someone who perfoms someone elses work, and yes, it completely sucks, but pop artists of the past (sting, mj) were leaders of the culture, n sync and britney just destroyed what they worked so hard for, anyways, punk or die
