All new low...

So yesterday (Sunday), it was a beautiful day. Cold, snowmakers going. Sunny. Good coverage on the top of holly where the boxes are. I was skiing with D_Jibb, Mills, and k2skier88, and we were riding from about 930am til 4pm or so.

Things were actually pretty good early on. The landings were made and the take off to the c-box was actually good. The take off to the flat box was still ridiculously too flat and mellow. I don't know who would like it like that, but whatever...

Around 2pm, everything was getting real rutted up. The take off was getting a HUDE groove in it, and the landing was very rutter also. And in those 4 hours, keep in mind we were hiking A LOT, we didn't see a member of the park crew even attempt to pick up a shovel to do any sort of maintenence. They didn't even rake in the little lines that they are so fond of!!!

So around 2pm, me and Dr_jibb decide something needs to be done, so we grab the shovels. Around that moment, some member of the park "staff" tells us not to do it, because then everyone will think they can go do it themselves when something is bad. He proceeds to tell Dr_jibb that they won't hold up very long, so they don't put ANY effort into maintaining them.

I guess I missed the part where it is their job to maintain things consistently, all day long. Me and Tyler put in 5 minutes, and had the take off and landing looking much better. And it held up for close to a half hour.

And then simply the complete showing of laziness. "They won't last so why bother maintaining them" attitude is total bullshit. If I had that attitude at my job, I would be fired so ridiculously fast. but I guess looking around at the majority of KB's staff, it doesn't surprise me all that much.

Also, they don't even ride the shit ever, so of course they don't care what it is like. I rarely if ever, see the park crew hitting features. They always stand around. Maybe once or twice a day I see them hit something.

I guess things aren't any different than they ever were. KB still can't get anything right. They need to go to MSLM and learn how to actually build a park.

That is Mount St. Louis Moonstone in Ontario. This year. And their weather isn't much different than it is here. They don't have more vert to work with. If anything, there are a number of runs at KB that have more potential that MSLM's park run.

The thing that MSLM has that KB doesn't and I doubt ever will, is actual committment by management. Their hits are maintained CONSTANTLY all day long, and the whole park is a huge priority of theirs.

Eh, not like it is of use. on that blog they will basically just weasle out of it and say that we are lucky to have any features to slide. They are so lazy and uniwlling to put any effort into anything. The park at KB has not improved at all since I began skiing there. Actually, to an extent, it has regressed.

i really think KB has money woes to begin with, this was the first year KB actually paid for some rails and boxes. Previously, the crew built them with their own money and energy. and i think some were donated by Cupolos and Phatman

HTen if they are financially hurting, why are they paying people who don't do anything. They certainly don't do their jobs.

They also have like 5 parking lot attendants on at any given time, which is completely excessive. Hell, I find any parking lot attendant to be worthless anyways.

When it comes to parking lot attendants, Are they honestly a necessarry position? How often do you listen to where they tell you to park anyways?

I am pretty confident that everyone can park on their own. We all do it fine at the store, at work. Everywhere...

Figure there are prolly about 6-10 parking lot attendents. at $6/hour. 20 hours a week. Not to mention they all get a free seasons pass. $300 value. Do the calculations for the low estimate of 6 parking lot attendants based on an average of the hill being open 100 days, which is roughly 14 weeks. Almost $11,000 per season, on just employees telling someone where to park.

Take the higher estimate of 10 parking lot attendants, and you're looking at close to $19k.

It just seems like a lot of money spent on a pretty useless position.

I'm going to give that to Shawn. I completely agree, the crew is a bunch of bullshit. The landing got insanely bad yesterday and today. But I kinda liked the mellow take off of the flat box, I thought it was easier to go switch on, but still, I'll find a way to give that to Shawn.

P.S.- i was chillin with Langman for a bit today, and he's a lazy fuck.

yea, i went today and all the shit was rediculuosly low. the c box was a ft of the ground and the flat baox was basically a ride on. it made the c- box real easy to pull technical shit, but other wise its bullshit. I asked those guys if they could do somin about it. and they said it wasn't up to them.

He's there riding alot, I hung out with him the other day. Umm, he's been there, you've seen him before I can almost garuntee. He's got a greenish coat, a green hat that kinda sits off the top of his head. I forgot most of the details, but yea, just ask the crew where he is at the moment, he's at KB boarding alot.

Anyone know what the new set-up for the rails is? I'm not planning on driving down there and skiing in this wind. But it says on the site they tore it all up and put new stuff up and switched it around I guess.

Was he around last year? The guy that wears his goggles insainly low, like touching his lips kinda low. I really hope this person im thinking of is not him cause if so were just scrwed...

Im heading up there now. Maybe I'll see someone, or hit the rail jam tonight, depends, see ya later tonight if you go.

Allright so if what your telling me is true, th head of KBs park the same langman who promised things to be better is the same fellow who said to my face..."We dont fix the take offs and landings very often becuase they just get bad in 5 minuets anyways." SO our park manager dosnt give a shit, fuck you Langman and FUCK YOU Kissingbridge.

I wouldnt doubt it. Langman's not responsible at all. I mean, my uncle's out there cleaning up after the rail jam when all the kids leave and whatnot, he doesnt even get paid.

And here I had hope for something different this year.

I guess nothing is different and nothing will be different. A worthless, lazy, no knowledge waste as the park manager.

I guess I know where I am skiing next year.

"I myself also do not intend on riding at Kissing Bridge next season either. There are too many other places that have gotten the same weather, who have put a good effort forth and have decent setups to ride. KB is not one of them. You guys certainly talked all the talk and hyped a lot, but it just made for the biggest let down ever when your whole park crew is nowhere to be found to put 5 minutes into the features each hour to keep them in somewhat decent shape. Apparantly you'd rather pay people to stand around and smoke all day long, and not actually do anything, than to actually fix the features up. Go to any other hill and watch their park crew at work. Almost every half hour you'll see them out there shoveling and raking to keep things nice. If I took the attitude of KBs park crew to my job, I would be fired before 9am rolled around.

I know the snow this season has been horrible, but to place all the blame on hat would be foolish. When there has been no effort to make the best out of what you've got.

And ya know what, I will enjoy riding at Holiday next season because it seems like they have actually listened to their customers, and have made an honest effort to make the best out of what they have this season. It is a shame as I would rather continue to ride Kissing Bridge, as it is closer, and less exspensive. But I just don't think I can continue to support a business with such poor management decisions."

... And that is what I just submitted to KB's blog.

that sucks. kb reallly needs to get their act together and hire some real park matience people. at waterville i see the park crew out there all day long. even if the lip up to a jump is a little worn down theyre up there fixing it before it gets a huge rut.

Firday there was one meber of the park crew, who i actually had meet last year, anyways he was working on the stuff all day, and was a chill guy. Im pretty bad with names and cant remeber it but anyways props to him for working hard.

it was probably joe.. hes a dope kid and he was working in the park last year and not even getting paid. he got on the park staff this year and auctually does work

So "Sir Langman" as he will now be known as from here on out replied to me and Dr_Jibb's issues. And let me tell you, he is so professional about the way he goes about it.

Sir Langman - "I want to give our park staff props for doing a great job on the hill this season. To those of you that are trashing these guys give it a rest. I'm sure that you have no idea how to deal with different snow conditions and how a park set-up should be. If you think that I am wrong then I welcome you to come in and show me how to do my job. I will also supply you with a copy of my resume if that will shut you up."

As for Dr_Jibb's and my retort, we shall see if they get approved or not... But I will post them for all to see on here...

-Dr_Jibb - "Kbs website is the perfect representation of Kissingbridge in general: Unprofessional. As for Sir Langman… does your resume include your plan to educate young shredders to stay out of the way by running into them? And leaving rails in the bushes to rust and warp? That wouldn't be a first at KB now would it…"

A little personal attack at his unprofessionalism, looking back to the time when he said the best way for a kid to learn not to stand in the way is to be hit. I approve of that post very much so.

My approach was a bit more refined...

SkierX- "I'm going to be frank here. Face it. You're crew is lazy. What, you want praise because something got fixed up once or twice a day?

What has been setup cannot be maintained. I do undersand, as everyone does, that the weather this year is horrible. But all that is being asked for is consistent maintenence of the features that you guys do have. Also, although the snowmaking is limited, there is no excuse for the park to be completely grass, when meaningless little connector trails are covered with snow.

As for a topic that the rest of the upper level KB management needs to be made aware of...

If it wasn't noticed earlier before the season that the most active topic was park riding, then why wasn't more effort made early season, when temperatures were cold enough to make snow, to get the park going. It is pretty fundamental when it comes to businesses. Invest in what the big thing is, and make a solid committment to it, and only then will you see the dividends.

Langman, I understand you are bound by a lot of upper managements decisions, but there are still the things that can be done with what you have got. And that is maintenence. That is really all that is being asked for.

I think we all have realized that park really isn't a committment that is high on KB's priority list. I mean really, it is on what is basicaly the garbage dump of KB as far as terrain goes. But all we ask is to make the best out of what you've got.

And Langman, don't take it as such a personal attack and get so defensive. All it should be taken as constructive criticism. It is simply things that we have noticed while riding at other parks. There is a place a little bit north of Toronto. Mount Saint Louis Moonstone. It has an incredible park. And it is just frustrating because they get no more natural snow than we do. They get nearly the same weather we do. Have gotten hit bad with the warm weather like we have. They have no more vertical to work with. Yet they have this...

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/skier11/1eb28b60.jpg

It just is frustrating to ski at someplace where you can see the lack of committment from upper management to the future of the sports. And unless I see a firm committment made towards that aspect, I honestly don't know if I will support the area next year.

I would love to see KB succeed and make a killer park, not only for myself, but for the future of the area. Because I DO think Holiday gouges prices BIGTIME. But I almost feel forced to go there."

Overall, I award a good effort. Slams against Langmans knowledge, and work ethic, and a little hating of the whole upper management at KB. It just doesn't get better than this...

Good thing I'm in college next year. Hopefully a St. Michael's Purple Knight, or in St. Bona, or Potsdam, I've already been accepted to Potsdam. ha, screw KB.

Yeah. I suppose they truely cannot handle the truth.

I give up on that place so much. I will be skiing at Holiday Valley next year for sure. And I urge all other KB skiers to do the same. I'm done supporting that place.

yea, i've been skiing at holiday most of this season, and last year. its actually cheaper for me, with a college id its 20$ sunday-thursday.

and i really thought this was the year, i saw new pics of allthe new stuff they got, but then it just kinda died

just keep bugging them, they cannot ignore you forever
