im trying to get some feedback on the subject of an all girl ski/jib film

im mostly looking to see how interested everyone out there would be to see this, as well as any female skiers in the east coast area that would be available to shoot. its VERY hard to come by female talent around here.

this is definately a serious idea, we are looking to sign on a female director and editor possibly

just gimme some feedback on the idea, cause we will most likely go through with the film for a january '04 release

my intire crew waited for his ass at the bottem of the hill and beat the shit out of him. i broke his poles agianst a tree, and we snapped one of his skis. fucker got uppercutted so much. he was bleeding from his eyes and shit, crying like a little pussy. i busted out a body slam on his ass and broke both of his arms. the ski patroler broke up the fight and clipped all of our tickets. we where gonna beat the shit out of the patroller but my mom came to pick us up.

oh dear. what an idea. im a girl, and i agree it'd SUCK. theres just not enough girls yet doing good enough stuff. if you could put one together it'd be cool... but nothing amazing. you'd need a lot of pretty girls and face shots hehe.

when i watch a ski movie, i wanna see stuff that makes me say 'whoa, that was insane' like candide's cork 5 or his dspin 9 on the step up. ive never seen a girl do anythng that impressed me all that much

The idea is great for sure. There definately is a ton of talent out there, but at this time, I don't know if you'd be able to get enough people for a full length video, especially if it's only east coast.

I haven't seen it yet, but I heard that Mike Crichton's newest movie, Guinea Pigs has a girls segment. That's pretty cool.

Maybe this has already been made, but I think a fun idea would be to make an all girls extreme sports video and have skiing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, mountain climbing, etc.

ok, i am down wit watching kristi and sarah rip it up in a movie....but to see that for a full half hour would kill me, seriously, don't do it. I think we should definatley give more girls parts in the big movies and let them into comps, but there already was an all girls flick called no mans land and it sucked

 
Here are my thoughts on this: I think there are enough women in the Big Mountain scene to make a decent movie (which has already been done) but, like almost everyone has already posted, I don't think thre is enough talent to justify an all girl jib movie, nevermind a 16mm movie which I am sure you will try to do.

I think that it's pretty dope someone would even consider making an all girls ski flick it's a good idea and any girl that says they wouldn't watch it is just lying to make themsleves seem kool. It would have to be very good talent for it to sell but I would watch it for sure...and be dam stoked to be in it 2...wink wink nudge nudge

i certainly wouldn't buy it. chicks and gay guys might buy it, but no self respecting straight male would. i hate to bash chicks (not really but hey), but relative to the best male athletes, girls got nothing (except for an exceptional figure). i certainly like the idea of promoting skiing among females and am all down for that, but as a buisness venture, it'd be a horrible flop. when you're competeting for the same markey dollars, your product had better have something more to offer over others. tities just don't go far enough...

empress was an exception to that because it was a trans-sports flick. i actually enjoyed empress, i thought alot of the riding was good. victoria jealouse and that other chick boarder were had good freeriding. not a chance in a freezing hell that i would buy it, but it was good and a pleasant viewing. however, listening to those woman nag and whine about girl power just reminded me of why i hate feminists.

I'm not reading what anyone else said because it has no basis on my opinion. We all know that girls are GENERALLY not as good as the guys. BUT they deserve just as much promotion for their efforts as any guy. An all girl jib flick is an interesting idea, but i doubt it would sell. The few girls that actually jib might buy it for the skiing, but any guy would just buy it to see if any of the girls are hot. Guy's are dicks that way.

it'd be a sick idea but there's just not enough women in the jib scene right now. if you're gonna incorporate big mountain into it then you're set. but all a strictly jib film with all girls wouldn't go over very well.

No, not a good idea. Girls dont want to watch something like that and neither do guys. I read somewhere, I forget where about magazines doing that, like Outside Woman from Outside and Snowboarder Girl, which only had like 2 issues before it died, they all died, there's no interest. Most girls dont want to buy that. It's not that there not as good, it just that it's a dumb idea. No one goes out to film a vid thinking, 'I'm only going to film guys', it happens, but that's because there's not enough chicks pushing it. I would like to see vids from like PBP, etc, with eventually like 50/50 split guys and girls, but no one wants to see an all female vid, just like alot of people want more girls in the current vids, cause they dont want to watch an all male vid.

i appreciate everyones imput. this definately is a hard decision, wondering whether there is a true market for this type of movie

basically its our stance to shoot as many girls as we can this winter, and then either intercut them into our first priority movie 'Gwyne', or if we have enough footage, cut a 2nd, all girls movie.

either way, expect to see some female influence from h3o films this winter. hopefully everything will work out and we can release two films if the quality is right

but look for 'gwyne' to hit september 03', and possibly a second movie

well even if there is enough skiers. will there be enough skilled skiers? nope - especially not strictly in the east. no offense to any girl jibber but they generally have smaller bags of tricks so they have shorter segments. shorter segments means more riders are needed - and there are very few riders to begin with.

h30, from the feedback on this forum it appears that a ski video targeted at a skiing crowd isn't going to work. I say target it at mainstream and you got yourself a nice arthouse flick.

It's like the films on drug addicts, they succeed in exposure for cause and in terms of dollars because people who aren't involved in the lifestyle want to know about it. (bad comparison, I know).

You could probably pull off a movie that focuses on girls making their way in the male-dominated alternative sports world. sorta a documentary i guess, but depends on where your company wants to go

 
Not too many girls have style when it comes to NS. Even Kristi, Sarah, Wendy, and the other 'big' female names aren't that great. Really, I mean a female jib video just wouldn't fly. This site is perfect feedback as to what people want to see/watch/read... and clearly this is not one of those things people wanna see. People want to see good skiing, not skiing that we say 'yeah that's alright... I mean she's a girl so I'll give some props'. Seriously, especially as a starting film co. stick to a movie that you know will at least have a chance. When some of the girls are even saying they wouldn't watch it... that's gotta tell you something!

 
I kind of do agree with u guy above, but i think it should be more of a thinkpiece, and less hardcore candy. It shouldn't only be about the slopes, but the comparisons with men, and thre strive to better themselves. Shit, i would love to see a well done movie about that.

it could be cool, but there isn't enough girls out there throwing shit. if you did make this movie, you would have a hard time finding chicks because most of the chicks on the slopes are just out to 'meet guys'. yeah and i do agree that girls should work on their style. i think out of all pros kristi has the most but it still isn't there compared to the guys. i'm trying to put grabs when i grind and stuff, but i'll be the first to admit that i have no style compared to the guys on the slopes... but hey i'm trying! lol

But sex sells, and unless you are showing titty and lots of it, no one is going to want to see it, in all honesty.

Like said earlier, people want to see things that marvel them. And not very many girl's tricks even compare to the top names in the industry
