I'm looking to pick up a pajero next week as a vehicle to register in Alberta while I'm working here. Any Alberta residents have suggestions for a good insurance company to deal with when it comes to imports. I'm saskatchewan we only have SGI, no private companies

also, anyone else have a pajero?

Try and keep your insurance in sask, lots of people do this by using their parents address. Alberta insurance is redicoulous. If you have to get insurance in Alberta try and use an address outside of a major center.

I use intact insurance, it's pretty good

I thought I read somewhere that RHD vehicles are more expensive to insure, no matter what it is or where you are.

I could be wrong though.

Regardless, anything you insure in AB will require an out of province inspection, and those can end up being costly.

The vehicle is an alberta vehicle, and I thought I'd save the saskatoon inspection if I could, but if insurance difference will end up costing more then the 200 I'd save, it's not worth it

I would get quotes for both provinces, if you know it will pass an interprovincial inspection it might still be worth it to get saskabush insurance.

I haven't seen the vehicle yet, looking at it on Friday. From the sounds of things the guy was very on top of maintaining it so it should pass without issue

Also, I'm hoping to do a WVO conversion. I can scavenge most of the parts from work to do it for next to nothing, then be running on free fuel! And I even get $500/ shift for fuel expenses which I can just pocket after that! I've already found a hydraulic tank that will be perfect for a diesel tank, then I can take stainless tubing and bend it up to a heat transfer coil for my tank to warm the oil, solenoids and temp gauges can also be had for free as well as all tubing and lines I'll need.

I use Intact as well, I just had a theft claim with them actually, they've been super quick getting back to me, very personalized and I got an above average payout

I looked into intact and the whole chose your coverage thing is completely new to me. SGI you get all coverage included in the price, then you can buy a package policy to lower deductibles

Huh, had to google to see what car you were talking about, didn't realize they made those anymore...

they do, but I'm looking at a 91 with a 5 speed, center locking diff, 33's and a mechanical injected intercooled turbo engine

i have had two imported cars (both gf8s) and allstate has insured both just the same as any other car for the exact same price as it costs to insure a base usdm outback impureza which is dope. only thing is that for whatever reason they don't give you fire and theft. Western subaru club has some info on import laws ad insurance etc i believe

I had a RHD crx from japan about 7 years ago or so. The only issue is the fact there is no VIN on a jdm car. I used millennium insurance company based out of sherwood park and they gave me pretty decent rates and covered fire and theft. They needed verified pictures of the car and its serial number. This was before the big JDM craze so i am not sure if things have changed since then.

Honestly it all depends on how old you are. I'm importing a 1999 Subaru Legacy GT B, and I'm only paying 685$ a year. 750$ if I want some collision on top of that, but then again I'm 27.

Call around. It didn't seem like it was that big of an issue, plus since it's not a drift car and we had similar models here it should be easy. Also if your looking for a good JDM importer in Alberta go see Kevin at Authority Imports. Hooked me up great so far.
