Albany area college students

Any other newschoolers go to college in the albany area? I'm going to SUNY albany and just wondering if anyone else in the area knows where to ski once winter hits and some things to do in the area in free time?
 
catskills arent far from here. jiminy is about 45 minutes away. mt snow is about 1.5 hrs. gore is about the same distance as well.

things to do? guess it all depends on what you're looking for.
 
it really is what you make it. ive been living in albany for almost 12 years now and it definitely has its pros and cons. location wise, it's not bad. you've got a ton of ski areas within 2 hrs. nyc isnt far. montreal isnt far either. but you are on the suny campus so that does partially suck. ive got a lot of really good bars and restaurants all within walking distance of my place and a ton of chill people around here as well.
 
just do some generic searches on the places around here.

the college passes are so damn cheap
 
Yep -- Magic's college pass is $189 (crazy!)-- but if you're looking for park you're not gonna get it. Mt Snow has their "1826" pass which is $319 and they're all about park.

You gotta look around. Figure out what mtn suits you best for what they offer vs. price.

capital region has a lot to offer, youve got Saratoga to the north for all your concerts and the race track. you've got downtown albany and the likes of biergarten for night life. for skiing, you've got night skiing at jiminy peak, bosquet, west. and for weekends and days youve got great skiing in vt and adk in 2hrs. Plenty of urban spots to hit, just be careful the cops. the LSS rail downey did is in Troy. Check out the palace in albany and proctors in schenectady for theater, Warren miller will be at the palace this fall. There are two decent malls on the corners of UAlbany. you've also got bars on western ave like juniors and sutters.

Like others said. you make it what you want. I work at Alpin haus Ski Shop in Clifton Park (exit 9 on I87) doing tech work. stop in any time.
 
Everything seems better in 'Toga than in Albany. I'm within biking distance from SUNY Adirondack and they recently built dorms, but seriously, avoid UAlbany and SUNY Adirondack. They both suck.

I hear that Skidmore has some awesome parties and there is a lot to do there, and recently they surpassed UC Boulder as the top party college in the U.S. It's an hour away from Gore Mountain, less than 2 hours from Whiteface (one Gore pass can get you free lift access at Whiteface and Belleayre), and not far from Stratton, Mt. Snow, Bromley, and Killington. Also I heard through the grapevine that Action Bronson is performing there in early October.

The typical newschooler wouldnt thrive at UAlbany, hence all the Albany hate. But surprisingly im still here and im about to finish up as a senior after this year. I normally ski with two snowboarder friends at mount snow. It's basically been established that the 3 of us are the only group of people who are avid skiers and snowboarders at the school. Go to a ski club meeting later into the year and get their college pass for mount snow. you can go to other places like crotched and boulder with the same pass all for around $320. I wouldnt recommend joining the club though because theyll charge you upwards of 80 bucks for a measely 6 or 7 bus trips to mount snow. Shoot me a PM, i wouldnt mind driving an extra person up with me to snow
 
skidmore didnt top boulder in partying they topped them in pot. and bronson is going to skidmore with danny brown oct 4th.
 
yeah i'll be getting in touch with you about it for sure, im a junior just trying to stay busy for these last 2 years up here.
 
do you happen to live on liberty? i saw a car with a ns sticker on the back window in the lot when i was moving in
 
I'm in Albany this Fall for the first time since 2008. Definitely would like to link up with some other skiers for movie premieres or something.
