Im thinking of buying a puppy. The malamute is looking to be my first choice by a long shot. Does anyone have one that could tell me a little bit about them?

My friends neighbor had one. I jumped through the living room window to chase another dog that was out front.

yeah it said they can be very territorial if they arent raised with another dog, but my roomate has one so it shouldnt be a problem

i dont know much about them but my friend has one and they are fuckin awesome, especially when they are puppies, so pudgy and fuzzy. i would get one if i could

that was originally my first choice but from what i read they are way more high strung then a malamute which was a major reason i changed my mind to the malamute

get a bernese mountain dog...theyre so goddamn cute and theyre just about the funnest/nicest dogs ever, plus they totally love snow

i wouldn't get a malamute if i didn't have a decent sized house and a large yard with a high fence that starts below ground and does to about 7 feet high.

thats a husky, because thats what i read about the husky and they said malamutes were more mild then the husky. i got this off the AKC site too so its legit.

I have one and would not trade her for the world. But you need to take this decision EXTREMELY SERIOUS!!! This breed is a beast. DO NOT get one if you cant give it a LOTS of exercise, have a HUGE house and NO OTHER DOGS. Mals are terrible first pets, terrible. One of the hardest to train, hardest to control, hardest to KEEP FENCED IN in the world. I promise they will escape and be found MILES away eventually, they are escape artists. If you want to know more about them PM me!

my best friend had one, and it got shot last winter by some guy down the street. it busted through the electric fence, and ran down 5 yards, some guy thought it was a polar bear and shot it with a 22. in the ass, didnt even make the dog blink, but it came home anyway.

cool story.

but yeah, super hard dog to train, and is nearly impossible to keep them confined in a fenced yard because they will find a way out (really smart dogs). but good luck if you do get one. they are super cute when they are puppies. and be prepared to deal with alot of drool, ALOT of it
