Al gore gets pwned. 400 prominent scientists say hes wrong

totally agree, also someone could have forked out a couple billion for the liberal party scientists. think about that hippy-crite.

How can anyone deny human have a substantial impact on this planets environment? Seriously...someone who is against global warming please answer this for me.

Read what I said....SUBSTANTIAL impact...I wasnt saying they think there is no impact.

Read up then. One of the arguements is that the impact of CO2 only contributes to a small percent of the overall effect. Like said, a large percent of global warming is caused by water vapor. That is proven. Honestly, just do some research on it.

I'm going to try to be kind.

I am a democrat, I supported the war because I was mislead. I quickly changed my mind, however, not because it was "the cool thing to do," (it was 2003 actually, a lot of people still supported bush) but because I found out I had been mislead...

by the party in power, the republicans. they were in power, so they lead us into war, by definition.

not everyone supported the war also. libertarians didn't.

that aside, please explain why al gore is a moron

See what happens to the economy when the world actually runs out of known oil reserves.

Conservation is going to be much better for the economy in the long run.

politics should be taken out of this issue. it isnt a "liberal" issue and people like al gore ruin the point. whoever said we have a responsibility to take care of our planet is the smartest person in here so far.... its not about political figures and sticking with your party.... its pretty obvious we're fucking up the world.

I don't think he's talking specifically about CO2 and global warming. Acres of fields, forests, and wetlands plowed and paved over for parking, smog blanketing our cities, powerboats dumping exhaust into water, waste water treatment plants not being as efficient as they could be, cutting down obscene amounts of trees, damming rivers, strip mining, quarries, oil drilling... the list goes on and on. All of that shit has quite an impact.

I hate that now when somebody mentions conservation or environmental impacts, people just think about CO2 and global warming.

No I haven't seen Gore's movie, and don't really want to. I know all he does is talk about CO2 and possible impacts, but some other people, I believe the person you were quoting before is one of them, wasn't just talking about CO2 impacts, but the overall impact we have on the planet.

Sorry, that might not have been very clear. Al Gore just talks about CO2. I think Ryno was talking about everything in general that has a negative impact.

Global Warming is pretty fuckin serious. any TRUE SKIER wouldn't care taht some of the data might possibly be false... what you want us to not do shit and fuck up the ski slopes for our grandkids?? Al Gore made a selfless move if he knew the data to be false... he risked his reputation in order that the world could be made into a better place. What other politician would risk their rep???

if the govt was concerned at all the first step would be to legalize the use of hemp... it blows my mind that the number one renewable fuel source on the planet is illegal because omgz you can get high holy shit omgz but i guess that would be a catastrophy wouldnt it...

it really doesn't matter if the shit is true, not true, half true, or 1 fuckin 9 millionth true. We can conclude that what goes on with pollution is not good for the environment. So doing something to reduce that isn't going to do anything bad.

I really don't see what the whole speal is about. It's like crossing an old rope bridge. You can either cross it and hope shit doesnt snap and u die, or taking the couple extra days to replace the ropes. It never hurts to error on the safe side.

He got people talking about it when no one knew anything about it. Even if he is wrong, it spurs debate among people = people talking about the issue.

Thats all he wanted and he succeeded in doing it. Now hopefully all our bickering produces some results...soon

actually i think i read/heard from somewhere (it WAS a reliable source) that either the US or the world spends as much money on climate change research as it does on cancer research....which do u think kills more people?

thank you. im gonna add, al gore interviewed all his buddies in that bs movie inconvient truth. what a bunch of baloney

An Inconvenient Truth is a joke...

Global warming most definitely is not.

Were fucking up the planet, carpool to the hill, turn your lights off and wear hoodies around the house!

Ok, heres the deal.

I probably would be considered a Liberal, and therefor, speaking as one, I am unhappy with Al Gore. I dont want to point fingers on who or what made him this way, though negative campaigning by Republicans has certainly contributed, but his image is tarnished. His image is corrupting his message, and I believe the message is important enough that we need to raise awareness of it, not its main proponents life and career.

Al Gore sorta pisses me off now. What pisses me off more however are the people who criticize the message for the actions of the man. Hate Gore, sure, go ahead. But climate change is real and since we dont know what the fuck is driving it, it wouldnt hurt to be careful in regulating our impact on this world. We dont get another shot if we fuck this planet up, and our species has proven itself notorious 'fuckers' of things in the past and present.

climate change is happening, but its not solely caused by us. were definetly a problem though so its a good thing taht people think that there the cause of it because it the new technology will help stop it/slow it down. al gore may be wrong/manipulative but hes doing a good thing.

I agree with this. As it stands at the moment, there is a plethera of data/literature that can be used by either side to form/support their various theories and whatnot. Although I'm a climate change skeptic insofar as our impact/ability to do anything about climate change, surely an approach such as this can't hurt.

i think people are missing the point here...

yes it is good that people are now aware of global warming but at what cost? people are just as ignorant about the issue as they were before al gore started his eco-rampage. any ignorance is not a good thing. it prevents people from taking a step back, seeing something for what it really is and take the best course of action. look at all the hate produced by just the kyoto protocal. hate for the US has only increased because the bush administration believed that change can only happen at our own pace based on our economy. everyone else sees it as us killing the earth which turns out has a great chance of not being true. as said in the video, the ignorance is so bad that peoples' careers and reputations are being threatened. its very scary actually to see this in everyone to even my own neighbor who had a teacher that taught a college course BASED on gore's movie. ignorance is a terrible deal even when it relates to a good cause.

then again, im not too worried about it becuase in ten years or so itll all blow over. it has before and it will again.

All I have to say is... If all you dumbasses who are so convinced that Al Gore is a dipshit that you fail to acknowledge global warming end up ruining skiing, I'm killing your children. That simple.

Well it didnt take long for critics to analyze this "amazing" report and find out that most of these so called 'prominent scientists' are a bunch of hacks, economists, and shitty ass scientists. Sources were found to be fake, the data used in some of the studies was extremely out of data even (1974) even though up to date data was available, and 'the paper oozes of vague but subjective and cherry-picked statements'.

http://energysmart.wordpress.com/2007/12/21/inhofian-reporting-peerless-work/

Go nuts kiddies...round 8208340820932740392752609831 of this debate may begin...lol

In other news, several hundred prominent climatologists met in Bali a couple weeks ago and declared that they agree with the IPCC consensus (http://www.climate.unsw.edu.au/bali/).

I don't understand how any rational individual can look at the issue and decide that the vast majority of climatologists, research societies, and climate change panels are less reliable than 400 "rogue" scientists, of which the majority aren't even climatologists (much less, prominent ones).

The popular discourse on climate change is so far removed from rational analysis it sickens me. Senator Inhofe's report has gotten at least as much media coverage as the Bali consensus, yet Inhofe's report is a complete joke. The vast majority of climatologists still believe that global warming is caused by humans, and you have absolutely no reason to doubt their conclusions. Every layman's objection to global warming comes down to a.) "I don't want to change how I live", b.) "The people I support politically don't support it, so I won't", c.) or "I don't want to be some global warming hippie" (c1. "Al Gore is gay lol manbearpig he invented the internet lol lol"). People don't arrive at the conclusion that global warming is not happening by "I listened to what people were telling me, and decided that the most reliable people to believe were the people telling me that it's a hoax".

What the FUCK is wrong with people.

I have had it. You assholes think you can make this into right versus left, pay off a few scientists and call them credible, or find a few who have aberrant, contrary opinions and act like a 1% minority deserves 50% of the attention (I wonder why a scientist would want to go against the recognized science... could it be because you get significantly more attention that way?), making global warming into a partisan issue. Fuck you all. Fuck. You. From now on anyone I see in person talking about global warming being exaggerated, being a hoax, being part of a leftist agenda, get ready, because you're getting punched in the face. Or at the very least screamed at and violently threatened if hitting you would get me arrested (you cunts aren't worth that). I'm going to do everything I can to ruin your day. Not to convince you that you're wrong or to assert the dominance of my position because this isn't an issue that's at the forefront of my politics or my personal concerns; I'm not a climatologist. So don't point out how this serves no purpose or makes "my side" look bad, because I don't have a side, and it serves the purpose of hurting you. Because people who look at the world this way should suffer. I have had enough of you assholes and I've determined that since you're all far too ignorant to bother talking to you, I'm just going to try to harm you. If I could get away with it I'd kill you off for the sake of the gene pool.

Let me say this once.

The contrary opinion, the "what everyone in business wants to hear" tag line of global warming being a leftist conspiracy, is people trying to cut their losses because climate change becoming an issue is EXPENSIVE to them if people start mobilizing and requiring action on it. It's a problem that will cost billions to address and the status quo is more profitable. This debate, the delay in any serious measures / restrictions / requirements on people is profitable. And those who profit from it will continue to fuel this debate as long as they can to continue making money at the expense of the 22nd century. I don't know if you care about the 22nd century. Maybe "after I die" isn't a big deal to you or whatever. But to say that this issue is fabricated is either a lie or a statement of complete ignorance and brainwashing that says to me, "I'm begging to get knocked the fuck out."

Right now I wish I could give you all bubonic plague via a computer screen. I don't really care that much about this issue (largely because I'm not sure sometimes if I care what happens to the planet after I die), and still, I actually hate you. You're liars, you're morons, you're sheep, and you act like you have legitimate ground to stand on and Lord knows you won't see reason.

Thank you for your time.

i hope your grandchildren ask you someday why didnt do anything to try and save the earth while you had the chance and you tell them that we didnt know anything was going to happen and then you finally realize what an idiot you really were.

we didnt start the fire...

haha we are focusing on the political side of it JD, the debate. i mean anyone who takes global warming as a political agenda should be shot because well... fuck thats stupid. we could talk about all the stuff we could do and how we could go by doing it to help out this issue but that wouldnt be much fun now would it?

"If you're not part of the solution, there is plenty of money to be made in prolonging the problem."

I'm up for some idiot bashing

I just want to ski, and I want my future kids to be able to ski, and I don't want a bunch of profiteering dumbfucks and their army of blind sheep to ruin that. If preventing global warming can ensure that future, than that is definitely a priority of mine. If you're on NS and can't agree with that, you definitely don't deserve to have an account here and you probably don't deserve to have a face that isn't permanently disfigured.

kid, who here has said, "global warming doesnt exist. lets do nothing about it."

EVERYONE agrees we should be more eco friendly and that pollution is bad. stop trying to think that because we dont agree with what al gore says, we dont believe anything at all.

I disagree. If that's the case, why does this thread exist? Who the fuck cares if Al Gore is wrong if there's still the problem of global warming? I see lots of people on NS claiming global warming is a hoax, and quite honestly, whether or not you agree with Al Gore it's a good idea to support him because he's become the face of global warming and he's the one who motivates people and businesses to do something about it. I you get caught up on the technicalities of it instead of just making a concerted effort to solve the problem and convincing others to help, you're just as bad as the people who claim global warming doesn't exist.

after what happened in the past years, i figured people would have learned by now not to follow someone blindly in the face of fear.... guess not.

A few embellished facts doesn't detract from the overwhelming timebomb that is global warming. Al Gore has still done a shit load of work in raising awareness over this issue, regardless of a few minor mistakes.

Exactly. I'm not telling you to follow Al Gore out of fear, I'm saying if you believe in preserving the environment (as you should, and as you claim everyone here does) then he's a powerful ally. Notice I didn't say "leader". You're exaggerating everything I say. My point is, if global warming concerns you, Al Gore shouldn't. It's pointless and a huge waste of time to spend time finding sources to prove him wrong when all he's doing is raising awareness on the issue - if a few things he says wouldn't hold up under oath who gives a flying fuck, your energy should be devoted to helping solve the problem, not tearing apart someone who is (whether you agree with his methods or not) helping the cause.

Sorry, I would like to rephrase my first parenthesis comment to "as you should, and as you falsely claim everyone here does". As I mentioned before, there's a whole host of NSers who are in the hoax camp.
