Airplane flight with Snow?

Heading to sqauw valley on friday at 5pm but there is a 100% chance of snow from noon to 10pm and projected totals of 6 inches to a foot, If it did snow how much does it take to shut down an airport and how long does it take them to reopen? My other option would be to drive to denver to avoid flying out of my own town and hopefully avoid the snow? Any ideas?

i have a connecting flight in Denver which is a six hour drive and would just go from there and skip my first flight.

if it were to get delayed a day can i have them change my flights to a day later on the way back so i still get enough skiing in

It depends on the airline but many times they will give you a redemption ticket or are willing to change your flight. Weather related things are weird though.

depends on the size of the airport. I have flown out of denver with a sizaable amount of snow on the ground, they de ice the wings on the tarmac and then you take off pretty much. granted that is one of the largest airports in america.

you'll probably have to pay a fee, and it depends on seat availability. but otherwise yes, they can.

the airport closing is really dependent on plenty of things. large airports that get a lot of snow can usually just go right through a storm because they have a giant fleet of plows. smaller ones may just shut down and wait out the storm.

and in the end it all comes down to the pilots discretion anyway

my towns airport is shit has like 3 gates so i doubt they have state of the art equipment so i might be in trouble

I think we will wait till Friday and depending on weather we will fly or drive and we r going into Sacramento

airports are baus at keeping the runways clean. especially places that get hit so much like where you're headed

Snow can be dealt with at airports, I would think that de-icing creates a lot more problems & delays than actual snowy runways.

Planes don't need a dry runway to land, and I would definitely go for it - that is if you can get to the airport safely.

Kinda lucked out and got a early flight so will get out before too much snow. This also means a seven hour layover What is there to do in an airport for seven hours?

>Go to business/first class lounge.

>Shower

>Eat expensive food and drink champagne

>Get a 1,5 hour Thai massage possibly with happy ending

>Eat more expensive food and drink more champagne
