Airbag backpack accidental activation?

Hey guys,

I bought a brand new Mammut backpack today including the RAS airbag system (same as snowpulse). Now I was wondering, has it ever happened that these go off accidentally in a crash?

As you have to take out the handle when skiing pow, it is ready to be pulled and doesn't require that much force, I could see it happening that when dropping cliffs and yardsailing, or thowing tricks in the pow anyways might result in an accidental triggering of the system.

Anybody ever heard of this happening or should i stop worrying? Would suck for sure if it does go off, having to repack the bag and getting a new cylinder.

Never heard of it happening but I guess it could. I wouldnt be too dissapointed/angry if it went off by accudent because that just tells me it is working properly. The only part that would suck is having to buy a new cylinder.

We rent them out in our shop and some guy was waiting in line to return his and tried to take the trigger out instead of letting us do it blew his up.. Made everyone in the shop jump.

Funniest thing I've seen happen in the shop.

True, but it's still about 40 bucks to get it refilled, and even worse, it's a pain in the ass to repack it, especially on the hill.

I had a buddy that forgot to put his trigger away and it pulled while getting off the lift. Sent him forward and me to the ground in laugher. He was pissed, I was not. For $40 vs the cost of the bag. No a big deal if it happens. That being said I have never heard of one going off if used the correct way.
