You can download other programs that can get you onto IM. Check out Trillian or GAIM.

You reached for the secret too soon

uninstalling and reinstalling won't work if it's a virus. download aimfix. search for it in google.

this box pops up and i have the choice either to click on the words "debug" or "close" and both of them just shut my AIM down

Seems to me like you should not have the debug option unless you have a software development tool installed to debug this kind of error.

So, I have 2 guesses.

1) You have a virus

2) There is a bug in the AIM program or something on your computer thinks there is a bug in the AIM program (thus the debug option). There are always bugs in programs, most of which you never see, because the code knows how to roll with it and make it transparent to you. But, if you have some software development tool installed, it is intercepting the bug and trying to ask you what you want to do about it.

If # 1 clean the computer

If # 2 find the option to turn off debugging. This will allow the AIM program to handle the error. It could be that even once you turn it off, you still get an error, but it should be a different one. If you have someone in your house who often installs programs on the computer, ask them what they've recently installed. That is probably your culprit.

Message me if you need, and I can clarify. And, out of curiosity, let me know if you find the problem.
