k so i got some skis and bindings on ebay and this guy is charging me $95 for shipping and $55 for the box. has anyone ever shipped skis and bindings from the us to canada? specifically its from ZIP code 60025 to postal code M4R 1R4 if someone know how to calculate shippig for me. like this is retarted. anyone have advice?

did they specify those shipping charges before you bid on them? Usually the auctions tell you how much they will charge for shipping and if so then you kind of got yourself in a hole

That's BS, he's just trying to make more money with the shipping. I bought skis from canada over ebay and the shipping was $30.00 with fedex ground. And a box is $15.00 at the most.

^haha very nice. i bought skis last fall on ebay, no bindings and it was $35 shipping from the east coast to the west coast. Good luck on getting your skis man.

i shipped skis once to canada from the US and the kid ended up gettin hit with a 150 dollar charge or something when he got the skis cause i put 500 dollars insurance or something. i think if i marked "gift" he wouldnt have gotten charged. id check that out so you dont get charged.

Courier services (UPS, FEDEX, etc) kill you with fees and tarrifs at the boarder.

I try to ship with USPS or Canada Post

i've recently shipped a few things from ohio to vancouver (pretty fucking far) one of which were a pair of ants (pretty fucking long) and shipping was never more than forty dollars. and a box would never cost more than ten or fifteen.

Dude, he's trying to burn you, don't let him, whatever you agreed on before the auction ended, pay that only.

Or if you didn't show him the quote from USPS of whatever.

But definitely don't pay that much for shipping.

i would normally say you need to pay it because it said on the ebay page how much it was.

BUT, since it didn't tell you how much shipping was, you should definately not need to pay that much.

i think it would be fair to find the best deal you can find for shipping, send him the link, and pay that much. don't forget to include the box price though because he's probably going to try to take a shit on you.

I've bought lots of skis/bindings from the US to Canada (I live in Calgary).

Skis should run you $30-50 depending on UPS/Fedex/USPS/DHL. At least in Calgary, Fedex is by far the best in terms of service and brokerage fees.

What will happen is you will pay

a) Shipping to courier

b) Duty (maybe, if the stuff is new, you will pay duty for sure, if used/gift you might get away with it)

c) Brokerage fee (the fee the courier charges you for processing the paperwork with Canada Customs)

UPS are a bunch of assholes and rip you off charging ~$50 brokerage fee while Fedex has charged me $5-10 in the past (on $400 skis).

The "box" is included in the damn shipping/handling charge of $30-60US. This guy is an idiot, present him with the shipping quotes (I'd use Fedex or USPS) and if he insists on those charges dispute it with eBay. Make it clear you know he is overcharging (say you've bought stuff in the past for less).

Sometimes you get idiots on eBay who say they will sell within North America, and then are mad when a Canadian wins the auction (who knows why, they think it's a hassle for some reason) and try to screw you. Don't stand for it.

anybody can go get a free box from a local ski shop if they no how to talk to a shop employee. This time of year it is a bit harder admittedly.

All in all you should not pay any more than $45 total. You can also leave him negative feedback as a bad Ebayer for that obvious scam job.

i'm not quite sure it's hilarious, and i bet the dude having to deal with this shit doesn't think so either.

good news fellow newschoolers. turns out his dad screwed up the first calculation. so its only 35 now. thanks for your help.

why use a box? my brother shipped his skis by wrapping then in bubblewarp and tape and slapping a couple of fragile stickers on them, they arrived to the other guy in perfect condition

yeah i agree. as long as they aren't damaged or stolen or anything i wouldn't care. i might be a little surprised when i saw it, but in the end i wouldn't care.

yeah youre right getting skis you bought in perfect condtion totally sucks, id ship those fuckers right back

wow.. theres just as much chance of stuff getting damaged in a box as there is in bubble wrap. cardboard isn't particulary strong. My bike frame came only wraped in bubble wrap, it didn't bother me at all. I'm pretty sure if you sent something back because it wasn't in a box the other person would be laughing all the way to the bank
