Ahmet spittin truth

it's a discussion board, what the fuck do you think is going to happen. do people not have the right to express their opinions here on NS?

yeah dude I mean look at what Ahmet said in his interview..."I would think people would like to truly know what a “pro skier” really thinks about stuff, and my fan page is a spot where you can find that out."His skiing is on another level but that sounds quite quite dooshy.

Anybody who has had an interview of them published should know that the only way to not come off as being arrogant is to dehumanize yourself and reveal nothing about your personality. I don't agree with Ahmet, but it's a shame people require beauty-pageant answers for their approval.

no you have 100% the right to express your opinion...however at the end of the day it is funny how kids are led to believe that pros and companies read their responses and think that they give a shit about it besides how it is gonna affect their company monetarily.

i give amhet respect for that just like i did when tanner was called dumont and olenick a roller bladers.

But he actually doesn't. He is one of the nicest guys on the slope too, he makes a point to encourage people around him - knowing from experience. I don't know what is "dooshy" about that. He definitely doesn't think he is more ghetto than the next guy.
and I agree with what Slandypoo (nice name) said. This interview is all about him and his accomplishments... it's going to sound arrogant to people like the kids on NS.

this. Entertaining to watch him ski, but seriously grow the fuck up. Nobody cares if you're "hard" in the real world. you'll learn that pretty quick once that knee blows out for good.

ahahah

Drug test would exlude Tanner, Sammy and many others =)

"sorry, but really? everyone is calling that a good interview? The guy

thinks 2Pac is someone to look up to, that it is better for kids to be

"punks" than good people... I guess he is lucky there are adults who

grow up to run things so he can go skiing..."

Agreed.

While I agree with your statment that most extreme sport athletes have to filter there statments to not sound like a complete tool IMO Ahmet takes it over the top. I'm all for wearing whatever you want, including overly sized clothing and anythign of that sort. I'm also fine with a few jokes about how hard the "street" is but not for the entire interview. I live in San Francisco and it makes me question his intelligence when he tried to actually rationalize his comment as not gay bashing. I DO think people are too sensitive about that sort of thing but seriously trying to rationalize that in your interview makes you sound like a moron. I'm sure he isn't actually like that as most alt sport athletes are but people also shouldn't get pissed when Kids and Others judge him when he fucks around (or as far as the gay comment is concerned) or tries to rationalize a bullshit points in interviews.

I agree with you, minus your hate. The rationalization was dumb, shoulda just stuck to his guns and kept it to a simple "overreacting bitches be overreacting". at the end of the day, he's just some guy that happens to be a really fucking dope mofuckin styley skier. He's not a professor of ethical philosophy. so anyway, back to the rest of the interview; liked it, excited to see more skiing from the guy.

love this interview and the fact that he's not afraid of bad publicity and doesn't try to be fake to suck up to the public, just keeps it real and does what he wants.

I quite reading this thread somewhere on the first page when my palm got sore from hitting my face. I would just like to say Ahmet is one of the funnest skiers to watch right now and I personally think he seems like a chill guy. Really looking forward to seeing Ahmet and Hornbeck killing the backcountry.

can't argue that.
It's just funny to see people drooling and foaming at the mouth at the slightest hint at controversy.
Regardless of how polarizing he may be, I think we can all agree that we are pumped to see what he got on film this year. The other stuff doesn't really mean anything. One thing I'm sure of: In 5 years everyone will remember Ahmet jibbing that rock and 50-50ing the creeper, and no one will remember his thoughts on Jon's outerwear. Oh wait....this is NS. This thread will be bumped in 5 years...

nah, though that was crazy dope too. a creeper rail is a handrail embedded or bolted alongside a concrete(whatever) ledge where a skier could only 50-50 it. It's the dub kink that Hornbeck, Wallisch and he hit.

True, it is always within the interviewee's best interests to not say anything at all. I just find this to be the main burdon with being a public figure. Sure, its understandable if the person is a politician or somebody of actual importance, but to hold an athlete to this standard is simply asinine. Skateboarding was able to overcome these snooty presuppositions; what makes skiers any "better?"

ahmets part in eye trip was so sick, cant wait for his part this year. sick skier, and knows whats up.

I hate to say it but I totally agree. Skiing should be filled with people who like to have fun and by no means do they have to be punks to like to have fun. You can be both a responsible person and live that "party" lifestyle.

I also don't agree with the comment about "skiing" being for old people. Skiing is what you make it and just because you dont hit urban or the park does not mean you are not doing it like you want, which to me is the essence of "free" skiing.

pretty funny discussion :D and interesting interview

anyway i think it is very good for freeskiing when people like casabon, harlaut or the level 1 crew create another way to experience/interprete/feel/identify with the sport than the way the whole "Olympic" spirit of winning is bringing to the scene with Jon Olsson and maybe also Dumont as a symbol.

very true. I know so many old guys who are just out skiing whatever they can everyday and having a blast. That's all that matters in my eyes.

Stoked to see Ahmet's segment this year though.

I disagree with this statement.... Been skiing since 1980. 31 years ago. I've competed in 4 race disciplines, moguls, slopestyle, superpipe, big-air, big mountain, and rail jams. Skiing isn't what old people do, its what we all do. I don't consider myself an old-school skier, but a NS skier, yet I grew up racing, but was poaching the park since 1992 probably. However, the best competition athletes, the kids who dominate the scene, ARE spending countless hours training to be as good as they are. It's needed, and it should be that way. It's the same with any sport, and IMO it's a good thing. Skiing has grown up fa sho, and is way more in the public eye. If you want to be the best of the best, then you need to work for it. It's why Tanner, Simon, and even a kid like Nick Goepper have gotten to where they are, they work for it. I love Ahmet's theory about freeskiing, and putting your ideas to work, and the freedom aspect. There is nothing like being on the mountain, music blasting, and just feeling it. I think people have felt this way for 50 years, it's been prevalent in Squaw, Sun Valley, and Jackson forever. It's why I quit racing. But, skiing has a lot of disciplines, and part of the reason your salary, travel budget etc, is what it is, is because they all see your media... Cheers to having your own opinion, none are wrong, it's what makes NS great.

The whole argument (?) is absolutely ridiculous and not even worth thinking about... I was just wondering if that one tripledumb homie had ever watched 2pac resurrection before he started making assumptions that Tupac is an idiot.

p.s. that interview was on point

Dont think he said anything about 2pac being an idiot, i think he was saying that 2pac might not be the best role model.

ya he fucked up by sayin gay at all, just avoid that topic, and you'll be good to go, otherwise, he is obviously pretty on point, tryin to stay low key or remember where hes from and whatnot..

Either way, I would much rather have Dumont's Red Bull Cubed Pipe video as a representation of our sport instead of Ahmet's Fried Chicken Eating, Gang Symbol Throwing, Du-Ragging, Eye Trip Segment.

People do need to care about how we present our sport, not just a "fuck the world" Tupac attitude. There should undoubtedly be freedom in freeskiing, but to an appropriate extent.

Precisely. If you want to approach skiing with a superficial attitude then maybe you should get into FIS racing.

Holy fuck, ns has to pick apart every word a "pro" says and find what they think is wrong. Ns is now a bunch of over sensitive pussies.
