AHL Hockey Incident

Not too sure if anyone else saw this, but the other day i was watching sports center, and they were showing a clip of an AHL(Juniors) Hockey Playoof game and there was one guy who two handed this other guy who was laying on the ice across his head. The guys helment broke, and they guy went into convulsions(sp) right on the ice. The guy has been suspended for the remander of this season and also next season. They didnt suspended him for life because if they did he could appeal it and be able to play earlier and they also were thinking, which NHL team wants this guy. he did something stupid once, he could do it again. They were also saying on sports center that this inncident made the Donald Brasier and Marty McSorely incident look babiesh.

it was totally ridiculous...this is worse than the Bertuzzi incident and it just blows the McSorely thing out of the water. Why was this guy so ridiculously stupid that he put a two-handed stick smackdown on the other guy...i dont understand why he didnt drop the gloves and fight the guy. i wouldnt want this guy on my team b/c obviously he has some issues that need worked out, like anger management and learning basic NHL rules.

did you guys see that one tape from back in the day...a goalie got his neck sliced open from a skate and started bleeding everywhere? i'm now afraid of hockey.

 
^No, he just missed. Got suspended 6 games for the miss. The other guy got a year and a half... I suppose it just doesn't matter what your intent is; what depends is if you're accurate with your deathblows. Stefford, I think his name is, missed with a swing that would've been even worse than the one that hit HIM. Perezhogin (almost certainly spelled wrong) isn't a dirty player AT ALL, has hardly any PIMs this year and not a single major penalty, and flipped out when somebody tried to kill him. Still inexcusable, but you have to understand where he's coming from. And to whoever it was above who implied that Bertuzzi was actually worse than Mcsorely (or that's how it sounded), I have to say this again: Bertuzzi's shot isn't even in the same LEAGUE as any major stick infraction. He hit the guy with a gloved hand. HUGE difference.

Actually, where I am this has been a pretty big deal for the last week, which is wierd since it's the AHL and nobody cares about it.

yeah i definitely meant that the McSorely incident was worse than bertuzzi's...no doubt. but yeah, i've heard about it all week on SC. maybe you dont watch it enough like someone who doesnt have anything to do, such as myself

First off, Stafford's swing at Perezhogin was not worse than Perezhogin's slash. It would have been a two minute slashing penalty. Second, Perezhogin is not a dirty player, like you said however he is european, and they loose their temper very easy, easier than North American players. I know I've played with tons of these guys, I played juniors, D-1 college, and semi-pro. Third, I played with Staff in two USHL all star games and against him when he played for Des Moines and I for Sioux City in the USHL, and he is a great guy and a clean, skilled hockey player. Even if he was a dirty player/agitator it wouldn't make this right but still being the guy and player that he is makes this even worse.

I dunno, I've seen that replay at least 2 dozen times by now and i'm pretty sure that first slash was going right at Alex P's head. That would've been at least as ugly. Sorry to hear you know the guy, must be tougher for you... I just weep for the game when i see stick incidents like this, as far as I'm concerned, they were both way out of line.

It's definately a nasty game, it was hard to see and hear about at first but now that he's out of the hospital and doing OK, it's really good to hear.
