Afterbang- 3rd best park ski?

I hear this every year. Why does an indenical ski not get teh same score year to year.

Well its simple, you are judging that years skis. So if one year ski A was the best then it may get a 10. But the next year ski A is the same but ski B is realsed which is much better then ski A. Now Ski B gets a 10 and ski A maybe only a 7 incomparsion to SKI B. Has the SKI A changed no, but the other skis in the test have changed.

I have done quite a bit of testing for buying puporses for teh shops I have worked at. It can be hard, you only get a few runs on everything. But you try to do consisteat laps so each ski gets used on the same run. Once you have skied enough skis (Im talking 100's) you can begin to easily see what will work and what dosnt even after just a few runs.

look at a skate mag gear guide, almost all ads, which is how they both pay to test and run the gear guide... wait till the next one for some content.

i thought the issue was fine. if you disagree, don't buy those skis or whatever.

i know for a fact the park ski test is legit and judged by skiers who ski them. maybe sponsors weigh in, but who knows. I use the gear guide more as a catalog for 2013 gear and what i could buy if I need new stuff. Then if there is need, ask on here about it...
 
IMHO I cant believe people actually would even consider afterbangs.

I feel like 90% of people who promote them as good skis have never skied anything else..
 
I don't ski that much park so their test is pretty much irrelevant to me. I know they have other tests for; big mountain, powder all mountain but if I'm going to get ski reviews I'm going to TGR or blister.

Look at skate mag gear? How about you look at powder or better yet ski journal. Idk, maybe it's because I'm older and I don't buy new gear unless my shit is hindering my performance (aka a new suit every year or a new park ski).

Honestly I have a hard time believing that there is THAT much difference in park skis. Maybe that's because I don't ski much park and my big mountain/am skis vary greatly in size, stiffness and rocker tech between companies(there is a lot more variance in actual ski shape in bm, am and powder skis).

OP my point is do your research from a bunch of different places. Even I don't believe ALL the shit that gets posted on TGR.

 
I am 17 and I have to pay for my own shit always, I am not one of those park rats who buys gear every year like many kids around me, I save up for it and buy what i think is best.

For lack of a better comparison, think of it like you would when electing a president or government official. Do research on them with different sources and a pre thought goal of what you want. All the sources are biased, but you can take info from each to find out/formulate an opinion of your own idea.

I use Freeskier as one source, especially for looking at all the new gear, something I am interested in even when not purchasing. I also use it to HELP formulate an idea on what skis to buy, because I know I cannot rely on what they say always. I also look at online review videos, gear guides, forum posts etc. and then formulate an idea of my own or post a thread about it if necessary.

True park skis do not ski too differently, but I am interested in ski tech, the performance judged by this magazine's testers and my different options.

Let's agree to disagree, but try to respect mine, and other's opinions.
 
No disrespect. I guess a freeskier review would probably hold a lot more value if you can't differentiate based on shape(aka most park skis are shaped very similarly). Don't get me wrong I love browsing through the porn of new gear I just much perfer reading articles about the industry/travels of pros.

Either way you're posting very maturely for a 17 year old.
 
definitely not.

I love my afterbangs for any kind of rails and stuff, but on any jump over 30ft they're shit. they're also pretty shitty on ice.

and line hypes up their durability too much. "they're practically indestructible"!

after 2 and a half months use the entire edge around the tip was ripped out of the base, didn't even fall or catch it.

that being said they're still great park skis if you don't jump much. would recommend to a friend.
 
This. Cant we all just agree that only somebody with half a brain would only draw opinion from one source beore dropping the money on a new ski?
 
This. I have people ask me quite frequently what skis they should get (I should work in ski sales it's that often) and I always say test out several pairs of skis and get what you liked best. that's how I've always bought my skis. I will still recommend usually 2 pairs of skis for them to try so that they don't just blindly go out testing skis they think they will like.
 
Same thing happened to me with my afterbangs, I had about 30 days on them and the edge split right at the tip and pulled out a ways. I tried epoxy and duct tape but nothing held up for more than a couple runs so I just ended up buying some 177 walls. Unfortunately I got 2 and a half days on those before I broke my tibia, that sucked but at least they will be in good shape for this year.
 
Yeah that might be worth a try, I have some old bindings I can throw on them so I might do that and use them for when I get around to making a setup at my house.
 
Thanks man, no lie I made up I was 17 to get you to respect my post and not call me a dumbass, I'm actually 15 and this is my newer account, lol. Whatever though man, keep shredding, I just hope we can support a ski magazine focused on freeskiing and keep it alive for the next generation of shredders, whether it be by buying it year after year or allowing more ads.

seriously? wow I find that absurd!

I ski'd arround 10-15 pairs of ski at this point, the afterbangs were the second worse pair I ever owned. (right after boon skis of course)

One of the good points about the ski was that it is very fast. Really? If you just look at the technical aspects of it, it has a very soft and slow base. These are cheaper skis and thats normal for a budget ski.

Those skis are decent for the price and they look fucking awsome, I owned a few lines in my life and I love the brand, dont get me wrong but these skis should be so far away from the top of any list except for budget skis.

And no they are not fast, I threw mine out after they ruined an urban session for me. the rail was very long and I would only get half way before just stopping on the rail. everyone else had double my speed and would clear the distance in no time.

I recomend these skis for a not to serious skier on a budget who just wants to have fun.
 
I demo all the park skis because i work at a shop and I'm telling you there are soooo many better park skis than the Afterbang...IMHO but to each their own, THALL is simply amazing, new puzzle tbt so dope I'm on that now and much more !!
 
I agree. A-bangs are heavy but once you reach that butter zone they have mad pop. I find buttering off knolls are great. I skied them hard for one season and a ski camp and they didn't feel dead or un-responsive. Ive had them throw me much higher and farther than I had ever anticipated, which usually ends up in me eating shit haha.

I personally like the symmetrical profile of the ski and it makes it great for boxes and rails. Those who think they are super heavy must not have strong enough legs for them, because yes, they are a heavier ski but not so heavy that they aren't skiable.

Only con I have is chipping the paint and wood off the top sheet, other than that they ski great. Not going to lie, my next pair of park skis will be ON3P for sure.

Sparknotes: Didn't have the money for ON3P, went with A-Bangs and I'm happy with them.
