After Dark thoughts?

I thought it was good. All of the main guys (Wiley, Ahmet, Tom, Hornbeck) killed it as usual. I liked how L1 put a lot more shots of the not-big name guys in the movie too (Imlach, Wesson, Logan, etc.) and their shots were sick.

It looked live L1 used a lot of new angles and the editing was different, but I'm glad they changed it up.

El Gato was pretty much spot on. I definitely enjoyed it and I look forward to buying the dvd so I can nerd out and pay better attention to the flow, and editing and the nuances. Didn't quite live up to my absurd expectations, and after one viewing, I think I liked Refresh and Eye Trip more...I dunno, 100% worth a dvd purchase, just not as big a leap forward for me. For example, a lot of the urban was just not quite as gnarly and/or creative as Weight (in my opinion).

Stand outs?

P.White, Wiley, Compton/IMLACH!!!/Wesson, and Ahmet. Definitely some bangers courtesy of C.Logan and Bellemare, as well as the usual suspects.

It was a decent time, rowdy crowd (waaaaaay young, which was sort of obnoxious watching a bunch of children try and act more drunk than each other) but sorry those who enjoyed it.....I thought Harvey's djing was horrid and maybe the most monotonous musical experience I've ever had. It was painful for me. I literally heard the same song AT LEAST 2x. I just don't understand how dubstep or whatever the fuck that was has become the defacto freeski music. I wish these skier guys would reach for a fucking guitar instead of a macbook.

1st half of the movie was as good as any ski movie ever.

2nd half (after Russia/Wallisch) was a bit tame and I though Ahmet's closing segment wasn't as strong as a closer needs to be.

Overall, worth buying simply for how tight the editing and riding was through the first half...it literally blew my mind.

Harvey DJ'n was awesome, thought he dropped some great breaks and played a real enjoyable set.

i thought it was so good. great soundtrack, and there were no segments that i wouldnt want to watch a thousand times again. but each segment was too short. the breck features were so sick. definitely my favorite.

yeah but wallisch also appeared in a lot of the segments, not just his exclusive bit. he's in russia, which is fairly long, and appears in a bunch of other shoots

minus the closing segment, i really really enjoyed it. creative features all around, sick riding, technical stuff, and the filmmaking keeps getting better every year. o, & PWHITE!

I have nothing worth while to contribute to this thread.. but every time I see the title I think of this.

I think I just aged myself.

I saw the catfish whiskers guy choke a dude out for trying to steal a banner. the guy tried running away and got decked and choked out. The guy literally was ruthless, he wouldn't let go until the other security guy stopped him before the guy passed out. Security were such dicks, but I think thats why the premier was so rowdy and fun. It was like a party more than a movie.

Bellemare blew my mind, I didn't expect him to be as sick as he was. The russia part was mind blowing, the song fit perfectly.

By far my favorite thing about this movie was how much fun it seemed like they had with it. It seems like it really pushed the fun part of ski movies. Hornbecks intro was fucking hilarious, along with Ahmets.

That is all.

you've been on this site long enough to know not to let newschoolers make you skeptical of anything haha. go and see for yourself for sure

Dude, if you like level 1's flicks and are a fan of the riders, why wouldn't you go? I think a lot of the replies that are even somewhat negative or critical have more to do with expectations and whatnot. Afterdark was a good shred fick and I can't really see a fan of freeskiing not enjoying it. This movie is a must see for everyone, even if it wasn't everyone's absolute favorite. Gotta support level 1!

Am I really the only one who thought Harvey's DJing was subpar at best?

I mean, come on, you could at least pretend to be mixing live. The most technical thing I saw him do all night was crossfade from one song to the next. And if youre going to do a dubstep set, don't play fucking Dr. P for gods sake, my 8 year old sisters been on that shit for 2 years.

I am still definitely going to go, I guess after reading this message board my stoke level has dropped a little. In a way, maybe its good because my expecations would not be as high as they normally would be for a Level 1 movie so I will be even more impressed.

Anyways, I will have consumed several beverages and I'm sure it will be an enjoyable evening...

That goes for you too brownskinterror.

I was really impressed with a lot of his shots for sure. I don't want to give specifics away but he had one of the standout shots in the movie, and he hit some big stuff. it was tight.

movie had some good parts sucked for the most part i wouldn't waste my money and buy it and also Berman way to steal asongs from OFS media not only ofs but from the same movie.

Umm, that would be self-plagarizing at very worst. Kyle Decker (Mr. OFS Media) created both parts using those songs- to great effect might I add!

dude this bouncer shined the light right at me when we were passing a j and laughed it off. guess it must have been the only chill bouncer there cause yeah mad people got dragged out

I'm thinking I'm stoked for tonight. Gonna get rowdy. If you're in SLC come down for Level 1 / 4bi9 world premier at The Depot at The Gateway Mall!

Just got back from slc's 4bi9/L1P premier and I can without a doubt say Beggin' for Change blew After Dark out of the water. Literally every shot in 4bi9's movie was cheered while AD midway bored everyone in the crowd. I have been L1P's biggest fan up to this film, It just wasn't that sick. 2 songs from a previous ski flicks and 4 segments or so ended with trailer shots - a huge no - no. Level 1 this year was like Poorboyz most years . With the exception of Chris Logan, Parker,JF,Bellmare and Wiley . AfterDark was not that sick in my opinion. It was nothing new or innovative. Props 4bi9 such baller film ! No hate Level 1 just wasn't your best!

I have to say that I personally thought After Dark was SICK! I was real stoked on the whole thing. The soundtrack was one of the best i have ever heard in a ski movie. Parkers seggy.... blew my mind.. Definitely was really happy that it exceeded my expectations after what I had heard on here!

definitely...after reading this thread I thought it was going to be terrible..but then it was really really good.. I don't understand how kids were not stoked.
