After buying skis

If they are new, I would get them waxed. They come waxed from the factory and some people would leave it at that but it is good to have a nice coat of wax on them IMO. If they are used, depending on their condition I would atleast have them waxed. If the edges and bases are beat it would be a good idea to have a full tune done.

I wouldn't do anything to them, just go ski.

generally the factory wax on k2's is pretty good and the edges are usually quite sharp straight out of the factory too. you probably don't need to do anything to them. unless you plan on hitting lots of rails, you might want to detune the edges a bit prior to hitting any boxes or rails, but that's about it.

WHAT EVER YOU DO DONT WAX THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Factory wax comes on newly bought skis and factory wax is the best wax ever, you could ruin it. if they dont have factory wax, then u got jipped.

just ski them, after about 5-10 days one them wax

skiing should be like mcdonalds...sure they started out with just hamburgers, them they progressed to breakfest sandwiches and salads and mcflurries. we all love the new stuff, but we still love the old stuff as well. so its a good thing they still offer

I don't know where you heard that from. Factory wax is just a film wax to protect the ski. Whenever we sell a pair we either wax em right away or tell them that they can only use the skis for about 2-3 days before bringing them in for a wax.

A good hot wax is 10000% better than a factory wax and lasts much longer. A crappy hot wax is about the same quality as a factory wax and lasts much longer.

Either way a hot wax is better.

if you're going to try and slide rails, make sure your de-tune the edges as so they don't break

ugh!!!! you people have NO idea what your talking about! dont listen to anyone who said its good wax, blah blah blah. here is whats really up:

new skis are shipped with a thin layer of parafin wax. its there strictly to kep the bases from drying out. parafin is the base material to ski wax (you can get it at the grocery store), but it lacks any of the chemicals and additives that reduce static and such. so basicly, its the worst wax you could use. also, any decent race tech will tell you the very first coats of wax are the most important. many racers will wax a new ski as many as 20 times to build a solid base of wax that penetrates deep into the pores of the base. while thats way to excessive for a freeride ski, you should absolutely have your skis hot waxed, (with an iron, not the wax wheels), it makes a huge difference in preformance, both immediate and long term. and when your bases start getting pale, that means they are cryied out. its time to re wax. that gets expensive (only takes about 3 days of skiing to peel most of your wax out) so my suggestion, is to get a cheap iron, some wax (get a big ass block of it) , a scraper, and a couple scotch brite pads, and for the price of one or two shop wax jobs, you'll be good for as couple seasons.

oh yeah, all skis are factory stone grond to remove any excess epoxy on the bases, and they sharpen and bevel the edges, so your fine there, but you really should wax them.

Yes or no it depends on your money , haha :P

Anyway, I recommend that u wax your skiis before first skiing. Because the manufacture just have a "simple" layer with wax i.e. The Factory ski wax and that is not enough.

Def. wax them. Listen to East_Coast a few posts above. When I used to race I would wax my brande new skis 3 or 4 times before I used them. And remember to keep them waxed or they will dry out. Just buy a cheap iron, go to your local ski shop, buy some wax and a scraper. Then you can wax your own skis in your basement/garage. Keeping good care of your skis shows them you love them, then they'll love you back.

It's all about taking care of your skis. I look at it like this....I have to change my oil in my truck to keep it running at top performance and so the engine doesn't seize up on me. Waxing your skis is kinda similar....

I have the PEs, and while they are decent skis, the bases are not that great. They do not hold wax all that well, so I highly suggest waxing them twice before you put them on snow.
