so i've had my braces off for a long while now...and i kinda forgot about wearing my retainer. until i had a check up with the orthadontist, and he yelled at me for not wearing it...so i've actually tried to wear it the past 3 nights...it hurts like hell!! it sucks.

retainers are so stupid. why cant they just put the little wire they glue to your bottom teeth on the top too? instead they make you wear these gay retainers. they're sooooo annoying.

it probably just hurts beacuse you never wore it at first and now your teeth have moved again. and yeah that sucks you couldnt get the little wire on the top, i got it and have never had to wear a retainer
 
I used to wear mine every night, then like when i was in like 11th grade i broke it and just said fuck it, my teeth still look good.
 
Just wear it until you feel your teeth not move anymore, if you wear it at night is it really that big of a deal? The only reason it hurts is because your teeth started to move to their old spot. Just wear it
 
i had braces for like 2 years and then never wore my retainer... my teeth moved slightly here and there but the end result is much better than it was before braces...
 
If my parents dropped insane amounts of money for my straight teeth so I dont look like a fucking ogre, I would pull the tamp outta my bagina and wear my god damn retainer.

Do you know how much braces cost? it seems retarded to not wear a retainer. Its like buying a house and burning half of it down becasue you hate cleaning it.
 
I have an invisalign retainer which is soooooo much better than the old school ones. I only wear it at night though, and rarely on weekends (I made that rule up). Braces fucking sucked so much I don't want all that shit I went through to be for nothing so I still wear my retainer.
 
I've now had braces for 3 years and 3 months, but whos counting? anyways, i screwed around with wearing stuff (like elastics) earlier on in the plan and they hardly noticed, but retainers, no matter how gay is something i wouldnt not wear, i was at a retaurant the other day and the waiter who was serving us asked me how lnog i had had them so i was like oh probably 3 years and a bit now, and he goes wow, well when u get them off ( nd his teeth were all crossed over one another and he was slurring) make sure u wear youre retainer for a few years, so wether i like it or not ill probably follow his advice, i know other people who dont wear it and now they have to get them back on, so its really a choice of wear it and be pissed off but waste your money cause theyll get messed up again orrrr dont wear it be happy then 10 years down the road be like the waiter. Not a hard choice in my opinion but w/e floats your boat i guess.
 
i have braces they, suck.. not wicked bad though i dontmind them besides i looke like a fucking tool.

I hated my retainer. I 'lost' it. And now my teeth have moved a bit. My parents paid a lot of money and I was a bitch about it. Even though my teeth look a hell of a lot better than before, they're not perfect like they could be. I regret not wearing it as much as I should have.
 
My mom by accidentally threw away my retainers so i haven't worn them in three months and have to get new ones but at least it's my mom's fault and not mine, it's prob gonna hurt a ton for a week when i get them back though.
 
the guy said at the last check up that i only had to wear it once a week....so i started to...but then i forgot about it.

i'm not bitching....i'm not saying they hurt. which it does. its my fault.

i think i'm going to ask him next time to put a wire on the top. cuz my front tooth came in sideways...even when i wore my retainer every night...it would still move back by the end of the day...thats why i dont knwo why he never put the wire on the top too.
 
if you wear them every night for around a year you pretty much never have to wear them again

or atleast thats how it worked for me, because i wore them religiously for almost a whole year and now i wear them maybe onve every two weeks and they don't even feel like my teeth have moved
 
yeah wear your retainer for sure..my friend has his braces for 2 years then just didnt wear his retainer so now he has braces again for another 2 years
 
well coming from someone that does have a wire glued to their teeth.... its pretty fucking sweet.
 
i wish i had a wire. haha.

i do on the bottom, not the top though. but hopefully after a couple months they wont move anymore...its just the top i'm worried about cuz they were the really messed up teeth. the bottom is fine
 
i had braces a couple of years ago, and basically stopped wearing my retainers to bed. the other day i tried to put them in, and it was hilarious. they didnt even come close to fitting anymore
 
yeah my teeth are slightly stained cause of braces too. only i probably notice as well but it pisses me off so much. i'll probably get them whitened here shortly.

oh and i wear my retainers when i get home from school and when i'm sleeping. also on weekends and shit when i'm chilling at home. just wear it dude, it's worth it. i mean you don't have to to school and shit cause i talk like a retard with it so i probably end up wearing it 15 hrs a day which is pretty good i think.
 
Take it from someone who's had braces twice...wear you retainer. Your teeth WILL move if you don't. Dissimilar to what many people think, your teeth will shift for the rest of you life, your best bet to prevent and/or limit the shifts is to get fitted with a non-removable bar on the inside of your teeth.
 
yeah thats what i want to get. i think in a couple months after actually wearing it, i'm going to ask him to put one on
 
this inspired me to bump this thread.
i was looking through it and saw my post, about a yr ago. i got my braces off today! i got a purps retainer. sure it's annoying but my mom spend 6k on those things so i'm going to wear it. i don't ever want braces again. i only have to wear it for 3 months all day and at night, then only at night after that. i have a bottom clear one that goes over my teeth like a mouth guard to wear at night. the lisp is annoying but hey is it worth getting braces again ?
 
I got both bottom and top permanent retainers and a regular retainer to wear at night. I was supposed to wear it for only a year but I still wear it, i'm so used to it that it doesn't bother me anymore.
 
ya kinda the same situation for me except that my dentist doesnt yell. i hate those retainers and clearly putting a wire on top wouldnt be as bad as having to wear that shit every night.
 
they will hurt yes. but its not like a really painful pain, its more like an anoying bad tooth ache for a couple days.

but drink lots of water, try not to eat harder foods, and believe it or not chew lots of sugar free gum like Trident, it helps relieve a lot of pain on top of advil or tylenol.
 
it doesnt hurt when gettin them on but that night ya ur teeth r gonna be sore espeacial if ur teeth are gonna be bad tynol got me through it
 
i used my retainer everyday for 6 months all day, then just switched over to night for about a year. ill wear it ocasionally but my teeth haven't moved that mush they are still pretty straight
 
honestly i can't really remember how much they hurt when i got them on, which is a good sign, but i CAN remember getting rubber bands, that shit suuuuuuuucked. thats definitely worse than the braces themselves
 
they definitelty hurt at least for me but it wasnt that bad. it goes away in about 3 days, pretty much what someone said above me it feels like a tooth ache
 
When i get my braces off in 3 months which im happy about i get a wire on both my top and bottom and a retainer
