Fo' Sho' AFI is one of the best bands out there. I went to their show last month and it was fucking amazing. And how is AFI NOT punk or hardcore.

Krongos, I don't agree with you because I enjoy most of AFI's stuff. But I will agree with you about them not being punk or hardcore. Well maybe not agree, but what I am trying to say is we need to stop trying to classify music so specifically. I hate all this 'they aint punk, never was never will be.'

'if you really want to hear what punk is check out (insert name of band here)' etc. You get it all the time especially on this board. I enjoy music that sounds good to me, I can relate to, appreciate the musical talent, or gets the party going. I love AFI's driving gutiars, whiney melodic lyrics, and most of the subject matter of the songs. Same with all the music I listen to, 'punk' 'hip-hop' 'country' 'jam/modern folk' whatever the reason it gets my heart going or mind thinking. I think people need to become a lot more tolerant to other styler of music. My $0.02

afi's new album is not punk or hardcore? maybe not on the whole, but tracks 5 and 7 certainly fit the bill...davy havok has one of the greates screaming voices ive heard... now, if youre going to say that its not hardcore because its not on victory records, and because the riffs arent tuned to drop d, well, you might want to re think how you define hardcore. afi is one of my favorite bands, and have been since 1997. ive owned most of their albums twice, and seen them a few times. and one thing i wont do is desert them now that they are getting some exposure. is sing the sorrow as good as shut your mouth, or as good as answer that? no, not as far as being 'hardcore' but to be frank, if i want to listen to raw afi, i can just listen to one of those albums... i like the fact that sing the sorrow has a good production quality... and i think its pretty darn good as far as that goes.

EXACTLY, maybe a song of two is, but the album as a whole is not.

I dont waste my time paying attention to record labels. That shouldnt make a difference.

i have some of there old cds havent picked up there new one yet,black sails in the sunset i think its called that is a good cd

Black Sails was AFI's most punk/hardcore album, the new album, Sing The Sorrow, is really good too. Its not as punk but i like how they explore new genres. jade's solo in track 5 is amazing, and the techno riff in track 7 reminds me of some later Danzig.

I think AFI is an awesome band, I have been a fan for a very long time and have watched their style progress. They put on an awesome live show. Their new album on Dreamworks is over produced and perfected. I guess that's what happens when you sign onto a big label.

i agree that maybe there new stuff isn't very AFI but they chang a bit with every cd so hopfuly they'll go back to being like they sounded on black sails

i dont think AFI has a check list that says 'make songs sound more punk' pr 'make songs sound more hardcore' there playing music the way they want to.

for those who think they arent punk/hardcore go out and buy Very Proud of Ya or Answer That And Stay Fashionable. both are punk and hardcore. i dont really like the brand new stuff but the art of drowning was really good

i ride a 153 cuz im tiny, not cuz im gay. next year im getting a 165 or 169

sing the sorrow, is more depressing than fast...it has an intense goth-influence...it's still pretty good though, not a cd i'd take out if it was playing
