In fact 1080 boots are no more than a X-wave 6...

actualy the Salomon 1080 boot is the same last (thats mold) as their race boot the course, it also has the course liner, a very thin liner. Its very snug fitting, better for narrow feet or someone more concerned about proformance than comfort. (Tighter fitting=more responsive) it IS much softer than the course boot, but I wouldn't go so far as to say its a begginers boot. The advent of shaped skis has made the need for a boot with rigid forward flex un-nessisary, unless of course you are herman meier racing downhill or someone like Hugo Harrison. For most people 1080 is more than enough boot. Douglas, JP and Many other pros ski the 1080 boot they ski better than 99% of the rest of the population, it doesn't seem to be holding them back.

You might be interested to know, the course/1080 boot is basicly a dead rip off of the Lange race last. Its identical.

If you have wider feet something in the X-Wave series is a better bet, its basicly the same mold as the Course/1080 with more room in the forefoot. Still has a nice tight heel pocket.

PS. if you are getting new boots do yourself a favor, go to a shop that is WELL KNOW for boot fitting. Ask the boot fitter if they know what 'pronation' is, if they don't find someone who does. Trust me. Try on boots based on their recomendations for a PROPER FIT, not whats the coolest looking or best marketed and or hyped up. And lastly GET FOOTBEDS!!!!!

qualities solidity well finished after sale services (if broken, ..). so what do you think? out of one fact: armadas black and PINK is ugly and faggy!

Hey sweetcheeks, the narrower last of which you speak of is actually the PROMODEL boot. The 1080 is based on the wide last of the X-Waves, and is pretty much an X-Wave 8... The ProModel however, is based on the Course race boot, and has the thinner heat moldable liner and is 95 flex rather than the 85 flex of the 1080 boot.

I just just bought the new beasts, i tried on tons of boots and they were the best, for me anyway. Plus they have an adjuster so that you can change the flex from 110 or 120.

yea the 1080 boots are softer, but that's because, in park, you WANT a softer boot. only racers want a boot with zero flex because they are skiing so aggresively that a soft boot would fold in half, and they'd do some crazy face plant in a middle of a turn where the ski is still edgeing but their face is in the snow... or something along those lines. In park you don't need a stiff boot. Of course if you like to carve aggresively or are riding powder, then the 1080 are pretty soft.

and now i'm sorry for typing out that useless blurb of crap

Yeah dude, you seriously want to go to a good ski shop and get fitted by someone who knows what they're doing. Buying a boot by brand rather than fit isn't a great idea. You will need one that is the right shape for your foot, and some brands/models tend to be pretty punishing on specific foot-types.

I have bells and whistles on my boots, but personally once I've got my settings dialed I tend not to fuck with them too much, so I find em all pretty useless really. I reckon comfortable fit is most important, and flex is a matter of preference. I prefer softer boots personally just because I find my feet/shins/legs will always feel heaps better come the afternoon if I'm not wearing a super stiff boot. All depends on you.

pronation is your foot naturally turning in when you walk/stand/ski. some people's is worse than others and they need insoles and stuff.some people also suponate, which is your foot rolling outwards.

generally, you want to pronate/suponate as little as possible, makes your feet more efficient.

far too fly to stay stationary...

I've got last year's X-Wave 9.0. I ride a lot of park, therfore I get a lot of shin-bang. As a matter of fact, I get it so bad I often can't walk. It's clearly too stiff and I packed it out way too much. Now I'm looking at spending another $400 on a new pair of boots. I've heard great things about the pro model. If it's too still you can just cut it out to soften it. Sounds like a better route. Anyone looking for a set of Salomon X-wave 9s? Make me an offer.

Take the soles out of your ski boots, and put in superfeet insoles.

My atomics are super comfy and they are pretty light and sleek like a Lang boot. As apposed to the beefy Nortica’s. I love them, there a little hard to get on but that was suppose to change in this years model.
