Ok, I am going to be a junior in high school this year and I plan to go to a college for filming/editing. As of right now I am filming on a Canon HV40 and i was wondering if I should move up to a pro camera so when i go to college i don't look like a idiot.

Get a shotgun mic, dakine mission photo backpack and full tilts. Because if you have that stuff no one will call you an idiot.

A new camera would not make that much of a difference in quality of video. I was being serious about the shotgun mic and Dakine backpack they look pro

But not the full tilts

do you have the money for an upgrade now? do you feel like you know everything of the 40 and that it's holding you back?

I'd seriously consider waiting another year for technology to update. If you got something now, two years down the road the whole game could be completely different. New codec could come out, new line of efficient cameras, lenses, etc. Start to save up now so you can buy something REALLY dope later.
