Advice re. Whistler Instructing

I am from Australia and considering doing my level 1 instructors course this coming season. If I was to finish the course on say, January 10, what are the chances of me scoring a job straight after at Whis, or any Canadian resort for that matter?

Anyone have experience with mid-season hiring?

Ps. Sorry for not posting in regional's, wouldn't let me :(

We don't like you either. Wanna fight bout it?

soooo if you don't like us then why do all of you live here? go back to your island prison and smoke some more meth.

Gehh your chances are hit or miss. A level 1 cert with no teaching experience are fairly dime-a-dozen. If there is a rocking snow year and people come flocking to Canada then maybe you could get hired. But you would have missed the christmas rush, so they might not really need you. Unless you're willing to work part-time on weekends only. Then you might have a chance.

and based off that wage you would have a hard time surviving the winter... id say wait till the following season, or move up in the summer early fall and get settled

Hmmm oki doki,

Thanks for that!

you'll only be able to teach the "Mini's" which are like 3-5 year olds hahah i see the instructors who have to deal with that and it looks like they hate life.

Is there any way you could obtain your level one in Australia prior to coming over? Then you would have a chance. Your lessons will be full of beginners and kids pissing their pants, but you could get a gig.

Are you open to mountains outside of whistler?

Thanks for your response, all good points.

Yes I can obtain it over here but I've missed the boat since the season is almost over (school prevented me this season).

Yes I would go anywhere in Canada, just want a gig :)

Pretty sure the Australian level one is only valid inside Australia so you would have to re-do the Canadian version anyway but yeah go for it dude. You'll probably have to just apply at a bunch of mountains and see what you can get but either way it's definitely a worthwhile experience.

When I taught at a ski area in Minnesota (US Midwest) I don't recall anyone starting part way through the season, and there was mandatory instructor training at the beginning of the season (for all instructors, certified or not). Based on my experience I think it would be pretty unlikely for you to get a job part way through unless they *really* need you, but other ski areas may do things differently.

DOnt they offer CSIA courses in Aus sometimes? The NZ instructor cert is recognized in Canada for sure.
