i'm looking at all kinds of video editing software. i'm wondering what you people have and if you like it or not...i'm not looking for anything super great, a low price would be awesome, but what are some good ones out there. my main focus is this: something that is easy to use, but has a ton of options and effects and stuff. i want to be able to slow clips down and stuff, and burn a dvd of it when finished.

thanks for any feedback.

I love Final Cut Pro but if you want something cheap that can burn to DVD without needing another program, you might want Adobe Premiere Elements. It can slow stuff down, and add effects.

word, adobe is dope, it takes a little bit to get used to it, im still not used to it. I usually dont use it but my friend has it and its fucking mint for any movie you wanna make.

yah they're both really easy to use. first timers just look at all the buttons and get intimidated and say "its too complex" when if you just try, its easy to get used to in a couple hours.

w3rd

which one? i'm looking at them and theres tons and tons. some say they're user friendly but i'm looking for a proffessional looking dvd with a menu and special features and shit and i have to do it under one fifty

well in that case d o w n l o a d limewire and then get adobe premier pro and ISO version then once it is done just load onto a cd and then put into computer...that way it is just liek the one out of the box...and virtually free

I did that with After Effects and it worked. You just have to download Magic ISO and its fine. But then I switched to a Mac, so thats gone. I could sent you a copy of Adobe Premiere 6.5 and After Effects on a working disc if you want. I have no use for them.

For the Free stuff:

-if your on a Mac the good thing is you get imovie to work with. amazingly simple to use.

-if your on PC you have windows Movie Maker 2. not as easy to use as iMovie. its just as powerful but your movies can only be exported to wmv. which is not as big a standard as quicktime.

of course their is good news for the PC Virtual Dub is an Open Source project video editor.

For the cheap:

-Adobe Premiere Elements.

the dumbed down version of Adobe Premiere. its still powerful and easy to use

-Pinnacle Systems - Studio 10

-Ulead Systems - VideoStudio 9

Expensive programs:

on the expensive programs list you have Final Cut Pro which is no longer sold seperatley it is now sold as part of The Apple Studio suite. Final Cut Pro is a very cool app. it gives you alot of professional level tools yet it still stays an everyday consumer product because of its simplicity. its not as powerful as the BIG BOYS but can compete on some levels (documentaries, web videos, company videos)

THE BIG BOYS/INDUSTRY STANDARD/BIG BUXX/AVID:

Avid has always been the leader in the non linear video editing world. if your working on Movies your working in Avid, if your working on commercials your working on Avid,Music Videos Avid, Primetime TV series: Avid

the great things about Avid is the scalability I have been a long time Avid user (long time considering my young age of 19) and I used Final cut DV. the great thing is last year I did the video editing for 2 TV pilots (unfortunatly both of them fell through) I used Avid Composer for both of them and it was the same program as Avid DV, Avid Xpress Pro and Avid Free DV. If your not going to make any money of this video editing your going to do I would suggest you get Avid Free DV. itl give you the corner stone so that if you do decide to pursue video editing as a career you will be able to easily move up to the other Avid programs. here is the link for the free download (http://www.avid.com/freedv/)

hope thats helpful, if you have any questions PM me and ill do my best to asnwer them

^so true

i work for mtv networks as a producer and the edit sessions we go to are all run by avid and pro tools

the occasionaly guy still swears by final cut and thats what i have at home but avid is the dopest out there

^ yeah Final Cut Pro is definitly going for the Professional who uses avid (or at least they were going after that consumer before they made Finalcut pro part of their suite) but Final Cut pro is much younger and its a new comer. they still have some issues to iron out before it can really start to compete with Avid for the professional market.

Apple could 3 or 4 years from now if they really gets a team together comparable to the team that Avid has they might be able to compete with Avid.

but Avid is soulely a Media company whereas apple is a computer industry, and putting more money into one program will take money out of others or reduce apples bottom line. and neither of those things are good.

right now I think apple is happy with their current situation. they have a few people who are able to do some low lever pro work with Final Cut pro, their able to show those people off and it convinces alot of regular consumers that Final Cut Pro is the best out there. Avid on the other hand does not advertise because if you need Avid you know Avid.

I don't know how long, but Apple is coming out with Final Cut Extreme, to compete with Avid. It can edit with resolutions in the 2Ks from cams like the RED or the Genesis. Its supposed to cost around $10,000 last I read.

i didnt even hear about that, but i did just get final cut pro 5 with the new HD support for the 1080i cam i just got, and i know they can handle broadcast HD as well

that was just a rumour. an old one at that. the rumour said that they were going to introduce it at in Vegas National Association of Broadcasters in April 2006.

Apple still hasnt anounced it or hinted towards it. that of course doesnt mean that its not going to be anounced. we just cant be sure itl exist. for all I know they might anounce it at the Euro mac expo towards the end of August.

but getting people to switch over isnt as easy as it seems it will cost thousands or even millions of dollars to convert studios.

it will also probably require a whole new pipeline training and they will need to either find new plug ins or if their lucky have the same plug ins available fo final cut, then theil need coders to rewrite all their proprietary software.

for Apple to really compete with Avid making a better program is just not going to be enough. they will need to add some features that Avid canthave and that studios will need.

since I dont think they can do that. I think Avid will be the leader a bit longer (even if Final Cut Extreme comes out)

damn dude thats sick. Next season I'm gonna be working with Vital, who is shooting the Pani HVX cam. This is going to be fun in the Alaska backcountry sun.

that link doenst work for me, it goes to the avid site but says it might have been moved. is there any other place to get that

i use vegas 5, its cool. But I was using windows movie maker before that so its a big step up, i have adobe premiere 6.5 and Pinnacle 9, downloaded all of these for free. Then you just get the no CD crack off of anywhere.

I'm assuming you are on a pc so you would be downloading adobe. Don't download it off limewire, go to adobe.com and download the trial then get the key off limewire or search google for the key.

don't download it if it says like "00ber c00l ViD Pr0GraM" or something nerdy, and always check to see what size it is. You don't want something suspiciously small....
