oh and now that i realize ur a kiwi, thought id share an anecdote about a crew of ski bums i met in a hostel in Nelson that spend their summers in Nelson, NZ and their winters in Nelson, BC. nice guys and very good skiers
the hostel at rossland is sweet. When I went on the trip down south for the Canadian open, we stayed there. We also stayed at the hotel like hostel in downtown Nelson. I loved the feel of the town. The rustic feel of Whitewater was great too. My added bonus was that it snowed a foot on the day I skied there. Such a nice day.
well i hope i get that luck with the snow! is most of the accomadition around the nelson area pretty legit? i like the good old ski feeling rather than the whole modern invasion, but thats anouther thing im going to have to investigate
^ Yeah, the modern invasion condominium vibe sucks. It use to be more like whitewater. Then some rich guy from texas or california (can't remember) bought the place and has all these plans for a villiage and everything but nothing to improve the actual skiing.
dude if your into intense backcountry i remember reading in Skiing magazine that there are these sick 4-6 day trips that go over miles of backcountry terrain at whistler/blackcomb....you basically hike and ski miles and miles of untracked stuff and set up mulitple camps....ive always wanted to do it....thought you might want to check it out
just found the mag....its the february/march 2008 Skiing magazine...the whistler/blackcomb one is a 4 day 500$ trips and its called the Spearhead Traverse...
yeah thanks for the advice, but i am going to Retallack aswel, im just looking for a sick place to shred before hand so my trip can be longer. but thanks for the comment anyway! updated+k
ya and not to mention all the gear you probably need to have before...i dont have any real overnight backcountry gear at all...no crampons, avalanche gear, shovels, or any of the works....being on the east coast can suck sometimes....haha
