First, I know there are multiple threads about shooting with DSLRs, but I have some specific questions and didn't want to thread jack another thread for this.
I'm going on a motorbike trip, and plan on filming what ensues. What I mostly want to shoot is a bunch of scenery, some riding shots, and hopefully random interviews in the places I pass through. I'm planning on getting some stills as well. I am shooting on a 7d with the 28-135mm kit lens. I know its not the greatest lens around, but it gets the job done and I can't afford another one. I am no expert at all, but over the past few weeks I've figured out the basics of filming with it, but any random tips would be appreciated.
my first question is about shooting while riding. someone I spoke with mentioned that manfrotto makes a c-clamp that would allow me to attach a tripod head to my handlebars so that I could have the camera secured on the bike while riding. this would also allow me to basically use the bike as a tripod of sorts, which would cut down on setup/takedown time if I pull over and want to get some stills. However, I have searched around and can't find this type of clamp anywhere. anybody know what it's called or where to get it?
Second, if I do have the bike attached, I'm afraid of a rock being flung up from either my tire or from a vehicle in front of me and shattering my lens. Would having a filter on prevent this from happening?
Lastly, any suggestions on what other accessories I should acquire to make the whole thing easier/better? my total trip budget is just under 2 grand, 1k of which is allocated to gas, food, and liquor, so basically any filters, mics, and other such accessories that won't break the bank, and would assist with achieving a better final product..
also, if anybody has a bike and can take a few weeks off and wants to ride and shoot, feel free to come. it should be pretty fucking awesome.
