Me and a group of friends are in our senior year in high school and want to do a ski trip for Xmas break of next year. We live in NY and wanna ski either in Wyoming, Utah, CO, or BC. Any advice would be great. Looking for about a week in a condo or anything decently cheap. But what mountains should we consider and how should we get looking into this trip. Thanks

Right about now all the ski mags are coming out with Travel Guides. I'd pick up the Freeskier one it's pretty decent, and the Ski one is too. SBC resort guide is easily the best for Canada.

Whistler is the best place for an all around vacation in Canada, Kicking Horse is crazy for Back country stuff. Colorado is probably the biggest ski destination anywhere, so you can find tons of shit to do there.

I'd pick a resort first out of a guide, or off the web. Then check the resorts website, cause u can usually get good deals on places to stay, like discounted lift tickets and stuff. Just read reviews online, thats always easy.

But ya pick up a guide, it's well worth ur money.

Whistler succumbs to the Asian Invasion at Christmas time but if you stay off of the main big chairs the lineups aren't too bad. If the snow isn't great they will have a pretty fun park.

Kicking Horse is freakin' amazing when there's snow, but you'll be pretty bored if there isn't. The main Gondola is always super busy and you can find yourself waiting about an hour just to get on... but if you stay up top you'll be fine.

Another idea is to come to Banff and ski Sunshine and Lake Louise. Neither of them are as busy so you can get way more runs.

Canada will be cheaper than CO or UT.

i wouldnt go to B.C im betting you would go to whistler. whistler at Xmas is booked solid. Same with like white horse and wat not. i would go to colorado you have like 12 different ski resorts to go to. plus early season at like breck and keystone, the parks are great. i wpuld recomend colorado if your into park. if your a backcourtry guy B.C is your best bet if u wanna risk comeing here.

Whistler is balls expensive.

Park city is dope though. If you fly delta (I think) if you show them your boarding pass at any resort in the PC area, you can ski on the same day you arrive for half price, or free, i forget which one.

It won't be cheap to come to colorado, but prices probably won't be to harsh if you stay somewhere jsut outside of summit (assuming you'll have a car) then you can go to breck/keystone/beav/vail/abasin/copper/or to the backcountry pretty easily, you'll find what you want but it won't be super cheap, crowds aren't bad if you can find a local to tell you where to go you can beat the crowds pretty much anywhere

jackson hole is pretty much the ultimate if you wanna shred gnar dogs and get pow. plus its the halfway point between bozeman (big sky, bridger) and Utah!

yo i'm almost doing the same thing. my friends and I who are also in our senior year and live in NY or are planning on going on a big trip. i think we are going to ski the east coast though for xmas break cause traveling during the holidays is really expensive. i think we are going to go to mammoth for spring break, and i know that we are driving cross country to ski mt hood for 6 weeks in the summer. you should contact me and we could possibly organize something between our friends.

Banff is dope, love that place. But during Christmas its hell on earth. The town is crazy busy, the parking lot at sunshine is filled with cars for like 3km down the road.

Whistler is always good times, but I think it will be very steep during x-mas if you're into cheap.

Kicking horse Wicked terrain, might not have the 'apres ski' that whistler and Banff have.

Rev- Haven't been there but that place is huge, like kicking horse not much for stuff after after skiing, and Im guessing no park.

But honestly man. If you can, come on holidays during February; way better snow, less cold, less crowds and cheaper.

You get a reading break or a spring break? Come then. Everyone has different dates for those holidays so its way better. Where as for christmas the entire world has it on the same day, so 10000090990980 Brits run the slopes over christmas.

whistler would definetly be good for the back country but at the same time you would have to deal with the expensive prices and the large amounts of ppl. i did it one year. i thought it was worth it. you should also look into park city. reasonable prices, good park, good back country. not sure how crowded it gets in PC during christmas but then again.. there are barely any resorts that arnt packed.

i surprised no one has said tahoe

TONs of good resorts, all pretty close together

either tahoe or summit county for sure

DEFINITELY GO TO JACKSON!!!
great for backcountry and on piste.
pretty decent park for a big mountain resort
town is great, and there is GREAT food :)
i'll most likely be there for x-mas too and can't what to ski it
jackson is where its at

SLC or Targhee. Hands down. Nothing in Summit County will suffice if you are looking for BC. Utah has good parks and urban when the pow aint great... and if if is then you are in for a treat. Targhee is well epic. Those would be my two picks. You could find some wild cowboy town out west as well and get a hold of some sleds.

I take a trip every year to Targhee, and have a blast. I would suggest either staying at the Teepee or right at the resort. Wake up plenty early and shred the pow, get to the Sacajawea lift cuz thats where all the pow is. Targhee is well worth it, or in Utah, there are plenty of great resorts to choose from. PC is super fun, good pow, (if you know where to look) and superb parks.

i would say go to utah, the park city/cottonwood canyon area. you can pretty much stay anywhere around there and its a short trip a bunch of great mountains. like if you want park, you can go to park city mountain resort, bc- alta and snowbird etc....

yeah you can find stuff in utah for cheap as shit if you don't care where you live. and im sure there are plenty of people on ns. that have places to stay depending on how many there are of you. but you can find cheap shit.

colorado. from denver make your way to I-70 and head for the mountains. once you hit beaver creek or vail, you'll have about a 2 hour drive to aspen... w/ keystone, breck, buttermilk, snowmass, aspen highlands (among others) in between. love it there.

christmas time is going to be busy wherever you go, but if you want to get away from teh crowds, try maybe going to resorts that aren't as well knownto the family scene.

powder mountain or snowbasin in the ogden, ut area are nice (ive ridden powmo and loved it, snowbasin is supposed to be baller too) im not sure about the park scene there, but if you really watned to spend a day in the park, PC isnt that far away. ogden is generally less expensive than slc as well, but that is starting to change as they try and develop it more.

you should look into grand targhee

you can make a sick trip out of jackson hole and targhee

if you have the means to ski at targhee and jackson a few days and then out to alta/snowbird/brighton/solitude/powder mountain that would be awesome

lots of good resorts in utah but you would need to have a car cus they're kinda spread out around salt lake area

targhee was one of my favorite places to ski though. hit one of the best pow days of my life there

also, brighton has a lot of bc access from the lifts, its a good place to get out of bounds easily.

they do have a park too, its no pc but its something at least.

I would recommend Alta (or Snowbird, since it's right there) because I've been there 2 years in a row and both years the snow and terrain have been amazing. Not going to find any park though.

I really second that motion.
i did xmas there last winter, and it was just soo good for late december. I waited, at max, for 15 minites for a line all week when i was there. This was a holiday week too.

For pow and fun, Big sky.

Good kickers, too

tour some resorts in the interior of BC, theres quite a few that dont have nearly as much crowds as whistler with some nice backcountry and light fluffy pow. (eg. Apex) also revelstoke is another good option from what i hear

go to steamboat springs, CO

it has the sickest champagne powder and an ill park. just got bought buy intrawest (however thats spelled) so new park will be legit!

Dont go to Utah.. snow sucks. lift lines are long, people are mean, beer is 3.2... its not a good choice.

I'm kidding. Utah's your best bet. tons of resorts in a 100 mile radius cheap places to stay if you look. and pretty much everything else is unbelievable.

whistler would be arguably the best place you can travel for skiing and just fun stuff in general
but in terms of money, not the best
shit expensive

British Columbia, best skiing around. hit Revelstoke, Kicking horse, lake louise, sunshine. ect. with the American dollar it'd be a bit cheaper...
