Advice for quitting smoking (spliffs)

I’ve been smoking weed mixed with tobacco pretty much every day for almost ten years. Interestingly I don’t like weed by itself or tobacco by itself, only the mixture. I’ve known pretty much from the beginning that it was not a net positive on my life but haven’t ever been able to stop for more than a weekish. I pretty much crave it all the time, and even when I am in a relatively good place with it, like right now where I’m just smoking a bowl before bed every night, I still crave it all day. I won’t go to in depth with all the negative impacts but suffice to say my social life and mental health are suffering. Anyways if anyone has any concrete advice besides just man up and stop or go to rehab I’m all ears.

Fix whatever it is in your life that makes you crave it. Obviously desiring that bowl before you go to bed is what gets you through the day. Make your day less monotonous

Nicotine is a hell of a drug. Use less tobo every week, the key is will power, after a few weeks of no nic you won't care anymore.

All this.

Really try and find something to keep you busy and your frustration low. Hobbies are great but if it’s something that’s easily fail at (intricate model work, painting, stupid shit) your frustration could easily trigger you go right back to a bowl.

Start a new exercise routine that can be easily achieved and easily take parts of the day up.

Running decent distance can easily take up significant time even if you don’t run the whole route.

Really any type of sport or exercise will be great way for you get your mind off of the nicotine and you’ll feel better. Your body is meant to move so just stick with it.

And go balls deep in it. Do workout journals to watch yourself improve, get nerdy about your gear, join volunteer groups to clean up the recreation areas you use or rivers you float.

Get really into whatever it is.

Also yeah sucking it up and dealing with is just part of getting over bad habits. Especially a habit that you’ve had for so long.

Eisenhower quit his 4 pack a day habit cold turkey after he was advised to cut down to a single pack a day (lol). He attributed a large portion of his success to developing a disgust and scorn for those who couldn’t quit. “I nursed to the utmost my ability to sneer at them.”

seems like one of two choices

you decide your health is most important (which it is) and slowly detox and then quit

you decide to smoke, gotta get the tobacco out

Find tasty bud with real flav, slow down and take time to make it like a ritual, quit the guilt

just drink hard liquor every day even in the morning

you'll soon be too tired to smoke a spliff, only enough energy to schlonk more hard liquor!

get addicted to heroin so you have no more money for spliffs

then just quit heroin since there is way more supports groups ez

This is solid advice

Stop buying tobacco and also make a rule for yourself that you won’t smoke anyone else’s tobacco. I feel like tobacco is like that for a lot of people where they are addicted to coffee and cigarettes or a drink and a smoke or a spliff but imo it’s the nic that is most addicting. I didn’t chew or smoke cigars all that long and I still get weird cravings years since I had either

It sounds like you are in that transitionary phase where smoking weed isn't brining you the marginal benefits it once was and deep down you know it. You're outgrowing it. The fact you're on here writing about it is a good sign, I'd put money down that in a few years you wont be smoking anymore, or will much more seldomly.

I used to smoke heavily every day, worked in the weed industry, it was inescapable for me. I ended up changing gears in life though, decided that weed just wasn't as big a part of my identity that it used to be. My advice, make new friends, find new habits, make space in your life for things besides weed. Personally, I started exercising more, went back to school, got a better job, all that lead to an even better job, now I have a career, all this happened in the matter of the last 4-5 years. Change won't happen overnight, but change also won't happen if you don't try. Set some objectives, be real with yourself, start rationing your smoking or break your habits like put your smoking kit somewhere super inconvenient where someone has to give it to you, or you have to go out of your house or something.

Still love weed, love the look of it, love the smell of it, I live in so cal so I smell people smoking and it brings back fond memories. Those are in the past, what do you want for yourself in the future? You can make the change, it sounds like deep down you already have.

Good luck

There’s some good advice in the comments here

I don’t like talking about it but maybe it’ll be of some help to you

I used to smoke a lot of weed when I was younger. I was always baked. Starting taking poppers too. And other drugs.

But this was throughout highschool and I had a lot of shit going on. But I kid you not, learning to ski was a huge turning point in my life. I found skiing brought me more happiness than weed did. And it fucked with my fitness and cardio, so it was holding me back from having fun on the hill.

Was a no brainer at that point. I don’t miss it at all. The joy of living an active and healthy lifestyle will bring me more happiness and satisfaction than weed, alcohol, or any drug ever will

But like others said it doesn’t happen overnight but it’s worth the change, best of luck to you dude
