Advertisment ruining Newschoolers!!!

I'm just sick of the "you are the 999,999th visitor to this site, click for your prize" style adds. Those are terrible.
 
I do not believe the advertisements are ruining NS. They are annoying, yes. But not ruining the site.
 
its the start wearing purple thats making me mad, just cause the ad keeps freezing...

cause its anoying im never wearing purple again.
 
First of all, just use an ad blocker, and second, i usualy dont mind ads except when theyre the full screen ads cause thats how sites like NS can be free and still awesome. Im guessing they dont make too much money off the store, so ads are what keeps NS going
 
I dont get why NS has some of these gay adds. Its a Ski website .. for "newschoolers" you know your demographic? market to it.

WTF is start wearing purple about ... I dont get it and I am not going to click the add again. Wear rainbows too ... maybe less gay.

If eveyone blocks the gay adds, maybe they wont have them on the site ... if the dont generate income.

PS ... NS your site is staring to look like a A.D.D. 12 yearolds myspace page. it burns my eyes and makes me want to vomit ... part from the shit motion of all the animated .gif's , and part from wild colors. Did you build this site in your 9th grade Tech class?

In all seriousness though, I do recognise that the advertising is a bit out of control right now. Especially in the video section.

To be straight honest, the new video section is still in Beta. It went up in Beta, and we wanted to collect a ton of feedback on it (and make sure it worked) before we went back in and started to make drastic changes.

Right now the design team (paul/chris) are hard at work getting the last two sections we're launching for this winter ready. They've been a HUGE undertaking, but are almost finished and we'll have 'em out for you soon.

After that, its time to re-visit it all and make all of these tweaks. The video section is a disaster right now... having all the mixed links to youtube videos, the embedded vids, the uploaded vids... it looks like shit. THen all the advertisement bombarding each one of the uploaded videos....

We're looking at a few options for how to limit the advertising. Likely the easiest way to do it will be to put a cap on the frequency. So say you'd watch only an ad every 2-5 minutes or something like that. Really in the end we want watching videos on NS to be the most pleasurable experience possible, so we're going to get that for you!

Sorry for all the difficulties while we get it done.

 
NO man no worries! FEedback is really important. I mean the Yahoo campaign was a fairly large ad package, but when its annoying to serve it makes it worse for everyone.

I think we just came out of the gate too fast, launch the section in beta and then hit it with a huge ad package. Should have come at it a bit slower... in the end video advertisement is very valuable, but lets face it I stopped watching TV because there was too many ads on it.

We need a balance... if you guys aren't watching videos because there's too many ads, then we're not going to have any ads to sell!

 
I havent had any pop-ups either.

some of the ads are really annoying, but some of the ski-related ones are actually pretty cool, like the ones for Line that show vids of their skis' technology or where mark abma explains his boots, stuff like that
