Advertising Frustrations

I seem to have an odd problem. Every time i visit NS, I get these 'adsrvr' popup ads that keep popping up every time i click a link. This does not seem to happen on any other site that i visit, only newschoolers, especially when browsing the picture section.

These adds take about 5 seconds to load and are a pain in the ass because i cant click on anything while i wait for one to pop up. I have used ad-aware and spybot s&s , with no luck...they just dont die.

So anyway, Im trying to figure out why i only have these ads pop up on NS... its driving me insane!

That's really messed. I've never gotten a popup on the site.. it sounds like a gator thing, but if you only get them on NS, then that wouldn't make much sense. I have no idea, sorry!

i think it may be some sort of keywords or something that trigers it. It doesnt happen that much in the forums..but in the picture section, every time i click a link to a picture, go back, or refresh, i get a pop up!

Mr Harvey:

well, i found the source of the ads. They are from www.fastclick.com. Fastclick is a provider of internet advertising and pop-unders.

Look at the bottom of the window:

The url of the photo section seems to triger thier advertising, but not other sections... im still trying to understand.

this is due to adware installed on your computer.

simple solution is to go to www.google.com search for adaware download it install and run it (you may need to update it first. adaware will remove all adware as well as spyware you have on your computer thanks to kazaa and imesh and other 'free' downloads.

if you had taken the time to read my first post, you would see that i do have, and have used ad-aware, as well as another spyware removal program. :)

The reason you're seeing that 'opening page' thing in the status bar isn't because of the popup. When a popup appears, it tells you what's going on in that window, not in the window that opens it.

The reason it tells you it's opening that is because the ad at the top of the frame is actually an iFrame, so the content that it loads is an html page, as apposed to regular ads that are just images.

thanks nate, unfortuantely I already have it, and have used it with no luck. It gets rid of everything except these. I have resorted to having to edit my 'hosts' file to stop the ads from loading...that way, it doesnt slow down my computer at least.
